@@coppertopv365 My family all joke with each other about our obvious faults, & whoever is getting laughed at will bring up somebody else's embarrassing thing & shift the attention away from themselves. It's like a nicer way of telling each other "we want you to improve on this particular thing in your life", but there's never any drama. (And nobody takes anybody's advice, either, we're stubborn as shit 😆)

Was thinking about this too. But actually it's just because they raise us in a different culture than their own. An Asian mother would be just a normal behaving mother in Asia. It would be normal for the teachers if they complain about the grades of their child all the time. Cause every parent would be like that and the teacher would even have the same cultural standing. Immigrant parents just don't behave in the same cultural way and that's what's embarrassing to us. Cause we are raised in this country and already know "the rules" of the culture. What to say and how to say it

The fact that so many of us find this funny just shows the emotional trauma we have been though and how wide spread it is. I really hope our generation can do better.

When I was a kid my parents wouldn’t allow pets, but we would regularly feed the neighbourhood cats. There was an orange cat we called gingy and a black cat called blacky 🤦🏽♀️ I can’t imagine what the neighbours thought when we’d call them…

I can attest that older asian people like to buy things that are a good deal. My asian mother in law bought my son a t-shirt that said "Who cut a big one." It had a large tree being cut down. She said she bought it because it was a good deal. Needless to say it went into the donate pile. 😅

@@cherryd8285 i think brownie for brown dogs was a famous name about 10-15 years ago. Now they don't give brownie names anymore. Now people name their dogs in human names like John, David, Bob etc.

I dunno about all asians but we Filipinos do use simple names for pets just basing it on their color and some characteristics. Some are even called whitey.
Well, we called our dog, "Doggie." So THERE!

I’m super white (I live in rural Texas) and I and almost everyone I know does that too. I have two cats who’s names are pretty much just “kitty” (they’re not actually named that but no one calls them their actual name).
My Mum had a golden retriever named Goldie, apparently it’s short for Golden Fortune and is the default name for all Cantonese family pups!
I named all my guinea pigs based on their color... And yes I'm Asian

Its good to know that, actually that is common in venezuela for example. We dont give a lot of meaning to the words we use, the only way people would get offended, you may have no confidence with the person or your tone is agressive.

My Mexican husband had an African Mexican friend and called him "negro" (black in spanish) and he didn't care at all. I called him by his name. He told me, you don't call me negro because you are American and think that I will get offended
there was a kid in my 6th grade class in 1980...Ari Ekbetani (still remember his name) from Iran. A wild loud brash kid,but so funny. We didn't,as 12 year olds, understand why he was here. We knew there were hostages and turmoi lin Iran but what was Iran? We didn't,couldn't understand the entirety of it. The one girl from Virginia whose Dad was (supposed to be a secret) FBI, claimed to know why Ari was here and that he was probably very rich. Ari was in our 7th grade student body but gone after half a year.
