Was thinking about this too. But actually it's just because they raise us in a different culture than their own. An Asian mother would be just a normal behaving mother in Asia. It would be normal for the teachers if they complain about the grades of their child all the time. Cause every parent would be like that and the teacher would even have the same cultural standing. Immigrant parents just don't behave in the same cultural way and that's what's embarrassing to us. Cause we are raised in this country and already know "the rules" of the culture. When I was a kid my parents wouldn’t allow pets, but we would regularly feed the neighbourhood cats. There was an orange cat we called gingy and a black cat called blacky 🤦🏽♀️ I can’t imagine what the neighbours thought when we’d call them…
@@cherryd8285 i think brownie for brown dogs was a famous name about 10-15 years ago. Now they don't give brownie names anymore. Now people name their dogs in human names like John, David, Bob etc.
The fact that so many of us find this funny just shows the emotional trauma we have been though and how wide spread it is. I really hope our generation can do better.

Its good to know that, actually that is common in venezuela for example. We dont give a lot of meaning to the words we use, the only way people would get offended, you may have no confidence with the person or your tone is agressive.

I spent 16 months in the Philippines. I am a 5 foot 6 inches tall very white girl. I got the “oh yo” almost every day from some very concerned nanay (grandma). But the one I love the most is, “oh yo, sister…. You so fat. You so hairy. You so white.” I found out later, after my self esteem was completely gone, that it was all meant as a compliment. Different cultures find different things beautiful. I suppose I should have felt better about myself, right?
