Just a guy on YT Halo ODST OST alone is in my top 10 albums. I fall asleep to it everynight. that smooth Jazz feel it has. Soothing! This jam is something amazing!!
My favorite part starts at the 6:55 mark. That joker on those keyboards totally lost his mind. Playing under the keyboards then almost turned it over and didn't miss a key doing it....
Indeed. Kool is the face of the group, and Khalis was the musical genius behind the group's success. But DT was the engine that made it all tie together. Rest in the Higher Plane DT....
I met them in Charles DeGaulle Airport in Paris in 1983. He asked me to come back to New York with him but I was on my way to Cairo! Those were the days my friend we thought they'd never end. I've got a couple of pics though.

I first heard this song back in the early 70's chillin with my Grandfather washing his Grand Prix in the Driveway. I was 11 yrs old. I miss those days... Blessed to grow up in that time of GREAT music and artist. 70's soul is unmatched
@Dangerm0usse I am now a 62 year old white make. I was brought up with this music outside of Philly. I know nothing but this music. Actually, I blow some dudes minds with what a white boy knows his music...it's kinda funny. Just wanted to tell you that I have hooked back up with my old girlfriend. I was always mad at myself for not pursuing her. Anyway, her husband died of Luekemia, and I am divorced.....watch out. I used to listen to WDAS when I was in high school. Peace be to all....

Incredible. I'm not at all familiar with this band and I'm glad I discovered this song on GTA Vice City. This live rendition is one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen!
I believe anyone who grew up in the late 50s, 60s, and 70s was blessed to experience extraordinary growth pains and pleasures of change in the US and the world. The 80s and 90s tried to hold on but we can clearly see how creativity, love for what, and who you feel is your own. The music, art, love, and respect are taking a downturn. Many of us had hope for progress and a better world just over the horizon. These days when we see another brother or sister who shared those years with us, we nod, say something accepting, and acknowledging with respect. I often feel sorry for these newer generations. They just don't know!
I've seen many shitty triangle players. in many orchestras, the talented one play the drum set, second one on bongos, the shitty one on triangle and shaker. triangle is the soul of soul music, you put a shitty drummer on triangle, then you got shitty triangle.
It was a treat to see this video, so I can only imagine how it was for the peoples that was there to witness this live. One of the greatest band that pave the way.
Only discovered this song a few days ago and I'm addicted to it. It's truly magnificent! I play the keyboard myself and respect the supreme talent the keyboardist clearly has. Also you have to admire his enthusiasm. A joy to watch!
One of my top 5 favorite songs in life. After all these years, it's still good. The groove is just undeniable and plays in my head all the time. Reminds me of getting ready to leave my grandparent's picnic on Sunday afternoon.
I'd like to hear the bass.Beat on my chest and hear the synthesizer. And here are the classical music that has been here and gone.Cause everybody wanna listen to the baby. But now these records are making their way back on the scene.God bless, enjoy these records. They will teach you life's lessons🎉😂
Hands down, for me this is in my top ten favorite instrumentals in my playlist. I enjoy every version of this song, but most especially this rendition, because of the arrangement, plus every musician here, brings 100% + of their talent, and their love of music. There’s nothing like old school smooth music, especially when played live. I enjoyed every second of it as I listen to it over and over again. Also thanks to the camera guys for spotlighting each talented performer and the band as a whole.
I can say you can hear this song one million times and it's sounds makes you feel as if you heard it for the first time. We we're blessed to have heard some hard working musician that made extraordinary music you can dance to or ride to. This thank you goes out to every musician. Thank you for making life just a bit more interesting. Happy 4th 2017...Smooches!
Soft top it along the Jersey Shore and make your speakers ache with summer madness. Loop it until the vibe pierces every being, every wave, the sun sinking on a horizon melting away with joy and longing for those moments in time most worth remembering..
This brings back so many sweet memories. It fits my idealized version of that time, who I was with, what I was doing. The reality of course was much different. But I was young, and couldn’t be put down. So, this song is wonderful.
Sounds better each time. I am a keyboardist and have worked over a year to put all parts in a single keyboard presentation. Lot of stuff going on and of course great keyboards solo by Rusty Hamilton. He and Larry Dunn with the original Earth Wind and Fire are at the top of my list.
this is just a ridiculously good live performance. I've been listening to this one for years and I always come back to it. The introduction is so clean too. Summer Madness 2000, and then 9/11 came and ruined everything.
Wow...being a child of the 70s I already love this song, but this rendition is AMAZING...brother on the guitar sounded like Wes Montgomery. Also, I always knew this song was funky, but I never really caught hold of the psychedelic vibe until now.
That`s a bunch of talented musicians! I`ve listened to various versions of this song but this one (live) and official album release (the recent one) are the best. Practically they improved the original version of 1976 which is not that great but had the merit of discovering this great song. Even if Rusty Hamilton is awsome at keyboards I still prefer Charles Smith at his electric guitar.
No recording devices allowed! Back in the day, We saw Kool and the Gang so many times! They use to play Symphony Hall in Newark NJ, like they owned the joint! The Horns would come out on the stage dancing and playing at the same time! They had on these multi colored outfits that were full length! They used “Sunn” equipment, amps and PA! They played a version of “Stop Look Listen” and the keyboard man “Ricky West” took a solo and at the end of the solo he stood up and walked away from his Fender Rhodes and synth … but the keys kept playing! I said “oh shoot”! ….I wasn’t allowed to curse back then….not even now! I said how do they do that! This was back when I was in the 9th grade (1971) and tech wasn’t nearly what it is today! We, my brother, Bobby Wise and I paid $5 apiece for the concert. We were up in the balcony but trust me, there isn’t a bad seat in the house at Symphony Hall Newark NJ! Black Ivory and Everyday People were on the bill as well! They all were great, and Kool and the Gang were 9 years away from adding JT! ( he probably was a youngster himself at that point) . (I haven’t even mentioned seeing them at the Terrace Ballroom!) They had their protégées The KG’s on that gig! (Everybody’s uptight trying to get their money right, food prices sky high people don’t wanna buy, people striking everywhere trying to get an equal share, everybody’s uptight trying to get their money right)! I wish I’d had a tape recorder to record the gig! I saw them there again with Graham Central Station and Blue Magic! The saxophone player did a circular breathing thing where he held a note so long that it seemed impossible, but it can be accomplished through learning that breathing technique! A 440 is what he said! What a great show! Blue Magic - Welcome to the club, now you see how sad it feels to be - and Graham - Can ya handle it?! I wish I’d had a tape recorder! I saw different artists at the PNC Arts Center and they must’ve had recording devices there because on the way out they were offering DVD’s of the concert that I had just seen! The Concert was Tina Turner if I’m not mistaken, or it could have been James Taylor! Nut bush Tenn - 25 was the speed limit, motorcycle not allowed in it - and of course - It use to be her town, it use to be her town too. What an amazing world we live in, where in the time it takes you to walk out of a concert, you can purchase a DVD of that concert! Technology is upon us and it is just getting more and more advanced with every passing moment! I talked to one gentleman who even spoke of the possibility of connecting a port to a human being and being able to see everything that was on someone’s mind! Wow! Imagine that in a court of law. You ask a defendant a question and immediately the person has to think of what you asked - sort of like asking not to think of pink elephants - a little too much info would tend too suggest a little too much involvement! I assume guilt or innocence would be a lot easier to establish! Well isn’t every living thing a recording device? A bird, a dog or a fish? Think of it, a dog remembers where his bowl is. A bird remembers where the nest was built! They record and remember things too! Hey, what if there was a way to connect a port to these animals? The person in the woods, all alone, wouldn’t be so alone any more. He’d have an eye witness to what occurred in the woods. The bird, the bear, the deer even! The eternal questions could finally be answered - “Does a bear s**t in the woods” ? - “If a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there, does it make a sound”? You’d simply round up a few animals from that region, hook up the USB port and download! Hey, just wait till Forensic Science catches up with this! Think of it, so many questions answered! I sometimes, being the insomniac that I am, travel down memory lane just for the fun of it…or maybe because of my religious beliefs I am keeping the old memory banks in shape for when I stand before the Almighty! I wouldn’t want to waste His time hymming and hawing! My objective would be to get through those pearly gates! The Lord works in mysterious ways! A little birdie told me that! I’ll be here all week! Youngblood
The best r&b, soul, funk, jazz, instrumental, pop band to me ever. I had the pleasure of meeting Robert Bell, it was a nice experience for me. Summer Madness perfectly reflects its title. Love this song, it evens sounds good performed live.
Words can't explain what listening to this does to me! It makes me feel overwhelmed deep in my soul with emotions I can't even describe, especially when Charles and Rusty do they're thing!

Love this live version. Thanks for sharing. Happy Summer Solstice.
Best instrumental song ever and every instrument my favorite is that saxophone.
Back in the day, this was the baddest jam of all time!
This guitar player is the bomb!
Not gonna lie, it might be my favourite 🎸 solo, ever.
The best r&b, soul, funk, jazz, instrumental, pop band to me ever. I had the pleasure of meeting Robert Bell, it was a nice experience for me. Summer Madness perfectly reflects its title. Love this song, it evens sounds good performed live.
