this makes me wish that something like this was a part of more of the boss battles. the cutscenes are great, but this inner monologue gives us a more intimate look into Travis's perspective that is pretty revealing about his feelings in his current situation. it kinda reminds me of those moments after boss battles in TSA where he sits at a table thinking about what he just went through
I think that it's better to leave just for the first boss. This is the first time you meet Travis and this serves as a way to show who he is right off the bat.
3 was beging for more moments like this with introspection from Travis like here and in TSA but it focused more on story cinematics instead of deep discussions or philosophy wich dissapointed me cause I wanted to see FU talk to himself and his alien friends more like Travis
Honestly, NMH2 could have used something like this as well. Imagine a monologue during the Pizza Batt Tower climb, or the 10 minute parking lot section. It would have been way cooler to see something like this since that game doesn't really show Travis's thoughts too well compared to the first.
The moment Travis realizes he's crossed the line when pitted in a deathmatch desperate to find an exit to paradise knowing it's far off in a path of bloodshed he's now forced to play his part in as the main character to his story
Agreed. In every role he has played, he is just amazing. Always exciting to see him have a role in new things. Medic from TF2, Kaz from MGS, Emperor Nefarious from R&C... And of course Travis Touchdown the crownless king. His talent is just fantastic.
Spoilers for NMH3 ... ... ... ... ... He never found the exit. Death Metal was right. He finally built a life of an "Hero" for himself, saving the world and all, and he's stuck and sick of it. Now he'll never find the exit.
I remember when I first played this game and heard this I knew immediately this was going to be one of my favorite games of all time. The writing in this game is phenomenal and Robin-Atkin Downes performance as Travis is gold. But yeah it kinda sucks that this monologue is so drowned out by everything else in the actual game and is kind of impossible to understand if you don't have the subtitles on. There isn't really another moment in the game where Travis reflects on his current situation like this so it's a really cool moment and really helps set up the story and Travis as a character.
I was sooooo happy when most of the sound files could be accessed in the PC version, Also PC versions are switch ports too, lol. When you get to the touhoublastonberry part in the subway, it shows the switch controls, Joy cons and all.
The greatest hack n slash protagonist ever, I'm sorry Dante, but will just aspire to be that deep of a character, DMC may be a better series and Dante a more fun character to play, but he lacks deepness after DMC3
@@RPPotatoBoy I haven't beaten NMH yet, but I have played through every DMC game and so far I do believe that Travis is the deeper character as Dante's characterization kinda gets thrown all over the place with DMC2 (and even DMC1 to an extent) never really falling into place with the character they create and cultivate in 3 onward and it's for that reason I believe that Dante takes a backseat in 4 and 5. Of course this isn't to say that DMC has no depth or that Dante has no depth, just that Dante is just a puddle in comparison to someone like Vergil
@@Noodle-Segootal When talking about Dante as a character, I also include the novels and the anime since they're considered as canon. With his character being consistent in each one from before DMC 3 and after it, being the opposite of Vergil which is his humanity and the love for it along with his ties to his family history. Even in DMC 4 where he takes a "backseat", the theme of humanity for Dante is still prevelant especially with his interaction against Agnus. Then you have DMC 5 where he tries to take all the responsibility of stopping Vergil knowing the he's Neros dad, not wanting to leave that on his conscious. Both times that are evident of his human compassion, trying to carry the legacy of his late mum rather than giving up his humanity like how Vergil chose to do. Also like his self acceptance where he stops using the name Tony Redgrave and goes back to using his birth name despite the wishes of his mum, wanting to face his past rather than running from it which is constantly shown. Also tied in with the self acceptance of his devil side where he absorbs the power of sparda which also again reflects the opposite of Vergil disregarding his humanity. Also love how the Anime is set between DMC 1 and 2, showing his mental state after the first games events along with how he tries to mask it through his jokey personality which eventually becomes progressively non existent in DMC 2 until the end. Constantly trying to hide his lonely state even when confronted by Trish and Lady. Calling Dante a "puddle" compared to Vergil kinda makes no sense? Especially when you can't have one without the other, they're both 2 sides of the same coin and both are parallels to each other (with Travis and Henry being based off of that dynamic). So as I said before, Travis and Dante are both as great as each other
I wonder if there was an specific thing to do in order for the monologue to appeae because I remember hearing it just when I was playing on the highest difficulty.

Robin Atkin Downes' as Travis is one of the all-time greatest video game voice performances.
I had the same thought

That last part while locked in combat is so damn eerie.
Pretty crazy how he realizes he messed up right in the first fight. But can't turn back. Also he says before and desire kinda funny lol
Thank you for isolating this without the boss sound effects

Now he'll never find the exit.
All he can do is keep running, but the way he wants to. A GODDAMN SUPERHERO.

might've been true before they ruined his personality and turned him into a dante clone with the sequels
and to think that who voiced Travis, voice medic from team fortress 2 lol
