Hey guys, here is the full sew along tutorial for our latest pattern, the Butano Button Up. The Butano Button Up is both an understated essential and the ultimate styling workhorse in your wardrobe! The Butano has a relaxed fit with enough ease to feel effortless without being entirely oversized. It comes with options to be sewn with short sleeves or long sleeves with a bound placket and cuff. The optional neckerchief runs through belt loops on the collar stand and can be worn in a bunch of different ways. The shirt also features bust darts, a back pleat, collar stand, and a cute chest patch pocket. The instructions feature clever construction to make the trickier aspects of sewing a button up achievable for the confident beginner!
In this video we are sewing it in a Chambray, and are making the long sleeves version. Any questions let us know in the comments!

Thank you for the sewalong. I was inspired by a recent trip to London to see how a lot of women are wearing linen button ups over camisoles on hot days, and then I saw your pattern release and thought I need to make a Linen Butano. I have the pieces cut and ready to sew alongside this video.

Thank you so much for another great pattern and for all the extras you add, like the collar stitching line jig and these video sewalongs, to make it so much easier and less stressful for us. Other than the fact I love your patterns, this is the main reason I choose FPC patterns over others. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the sew along. The details on the explaination are so helpful for a beginner sewist. It makes it less stressful and feels more at ease knowing the step by step when one is stuck. FPC is the best! ❤🎉

I'm so excited for this pattern! I've got fabrics picked out of my stash for it, and as soon as my budget will allow any wiggle room, I'll be purchasing the pattern proper and getting started.
Thank you again for making these sew along videos. I work in a fabric shop and I've pointed many a customer here to the channel so they can see how fun the patterns are and to have a resource if they feel like they're running into problems.

Just about to make this shirt but the size seems way off to me. I fall mainly into a medium but looking at the finished measurements there is 8 inches at the bust, 15 inches at the waist, hip not too bad at 6 inches as my hip size falls into the large. That seems a bit oversized to me, yet doesn't look that big on the models. Not sure whether to size down.

Not my first button up, but my first Friday Pattern! 🙌 Such a fun design!! Can I ask if the shoulder seam is meant to be a little dropped? It looks like it in the sample shots, but I notice your version here looks a little closer to the shoulder point. (I’m going ahead without adjusting because it think it will look great a little slouchy too, but just curious!) thanks for making a video with so many great tips! ❤

Thanks for your comment! It will depend on how broad your shoulders are but it isn't meant to be too slouchy. If you let me know what size you're making I'm happy to send you an across the shoulders finished garment measurement :)

    Hello, I've a Q if you don't mind.
If I wanted to make this for a man as well as swapping the buttons and button-holes could I just remove the darts and shorten the front panels to match the back? Unless you so a similar pattern for a man of course? I did look on your site but couldn't see one.
    Thank you

Hello! Yes, those are a couple adjustments you would want to make. I think the shoulders would need to be widened as well. I would compare the length and bicep measurements in the finished garment measurements to the length and bicep on a shirt that fits well to make sure those are going to fit. You might run in to fit issues because it wasn't drafted using male measurements and there are quite a few subtle ways that the fit would be different. Maybe a men's button up shirt pattern is in our future!

@@FridayPatternCompany Thank you - that's so kind of you to respond. I think I'll make this one, just as it is, for my sister instead and wait for your gents button up. I won't be offended if you call it the "Ricardo".
I'm off to Scotland in a couple of months so have just purchased the Ilford jacket to make for my holiday as it will be cold there. Best wishes from the UK. 🇬🇧

I am just making this shirt and noticed a couple of issues in the instructions. Step 31 there is a missing word in the second sentence. I presume it should say "You are only pinning your COLLAR to one layer of collar stand..." Also, it does not mention that this seam allowance is different to the 3/8" stated at the beginning, where it says 3/8" unless otherwise stated. Luckily I was watching the video and noticed you said 1/4" for sewing the collar inside the collar stand.
