I actually believe that Narissa is actually from the real world, but was bored with her normal life. Naturally, she was greedy, cruel and selfish, and in the Enchanted World, she has all the power. Then she discovers magic, and uses it to benefit her own selfish desires. It also makes me think that she was trained by witches or by the sorceress Morgana Le Fay. It makes sense to me.

She started to like him and his son, Edward and probably played with him. They were a happy little family. But when the King had fallen deeply in love with Narissa, he decided to propose her. She was insecure about that since she wasn't from Andalasia nor was she royal, but accepted it. What they didn't know is that the marriage had made Narissa a fairytale character, a Queen and, worst, a stepmother. A dark curse, the evil stepmother's curse, fell upon her and made her more and more evil with each passing day. She became more and more selfish, cruel and narcisstic and wanted to reign Andalasia all on her own. So she went to the wishing well and wished for the power to kill the King and become the only sovereign of Andalasia. The wishing well gave her magical powers and her transformation to an evil Queen was complete. From that moment on, she only knew one joy: to relish on other's pain.
I’m wondering if what happens to Giselle in disenchanted happened to her and she eventually became the evil queen, starting a cycle that would continuously create “evil” to be defeated.

I think it’s mean to be more of an homage to the old classical works of both Disney and European fantasy from the medieval era. The majority of the early works of Disney and European fantasy focused more on the what the characters were spiritually rather than focusing on logical reasoning. The villains of of sleeping beauty, Cinderella and Snow White don’t really need to explain themselves as they’re a stand in for absolute evil. Basically she just evil for the sake of it and wants an excuse to do evil for evil sake. This isn’t bad writing but as a nice writing thank you to past villains that built up Disney in its early days.

Narissa is a sorceress, so she most likely made the poison apples herself using alchemy. her being able to shape-shift into an old hag is an homage to the Evil Queen/Queen Grimhilde. In fact, a lot of things about Narissa are direct references/nods to her.
The fact that Susan Sarandon can sing and they didn't give her a villain song is a tragedy.
