    And yes I do get a lot of enjoyment from my scooter and a lot of looks and compliments on the way she looks. Guess the 3 biggest things would be , 1 I have to keep adjusting the idle on the carb . 2 The Mirrors are plenty large enough to get a really good view of what's behind me, but I have to keep adjusting them . 3 the lack OF power going up a long hill .
    But other than that I do love my little girl she's super fun!!!!! 😄. Thanks for the pics man keep it safe ✌️

      Assuming the engine is good by stepping on the kicker & feeling "comprresson bump" is present.
      Drop your Roller weights to 10grams thus increasing top rpms should help your hill problems.
      Belt size choice is another to consider.
      There's 2 belt sizes used.
      1 is quicker to engage, but slower top end.
      The other is slower to engage, but has better top end pull.
      ......and thats not even a final gear change, or a mild cam like the hoca a10 on a stock 57.4 mm piston.
      You can pull @ 70mph cooking a stock 13" 149cc.
      Im sea level in a beach town, a stock carb with a larger #130 main jet runs good all year with a (nice & quiet) stock 17" muffler.
      These scoots are great commuters imo.
      You see the videos of Asian countries packed with them.
      They are reliable and repairable affordably.
      In the US, parts need ordering but cheap enough to buy 2-3 usually.
      40-50mph : they last forever.

    True! 1st, if your scoots got all that carb compliant crap on there..gut it. 2nd battery 3rd change all the air and fuel to helix lines..4th carburetor, check all bolts and screws and blue loctite them, 5th upgrade the poop lights to led. Run real mineral oil Yes! Real oil IMHO it prevents leaks with those cheesey seals last for me upgrade the ground to a well paint sanded spot on the frame and coat the ground to prevent rust...just my personal input! To summarize: Tao Taos are the cheapest of the cheap "Lo Mein" scooters, they come with the cheapest of parts to keep the cost down. This is why most local scooter shops sell Tao Tao scooters and ATVs. They are the cheapest for them to buy and import. If its gonna be a "Lo Mein" scooter, get something from ZNEN. I ordered a BMS Prestige 150cc which is ZNEN. It comes 99% assembled. Comes stock with a Keihin/Deni 24mm Carb, Yuasa Sealed Gel battery, NGK Spark Plug, 13" Duro Tires, Bando CVT belt and mostly stainless steel fasteners. ZNEN's quality control is slightly better and I'd rather pay up front for that stuff than to have to replace it a month or so after I've owned the bike. Either way, wrenching is fun. Just not more wrenching than riding.

      No really.
      The motor spins flipping a magnet creating Positive then Negative rpm pulse.
      Thats alternating current, the push/pull flipping feild created.
      You normally need 2+ times the AC volts output as you want DC volts.

    CAMSHAFTS.....taller cam lobes bind the engine up when starting.
    Same with "stronger valve springs".
    You may need an expensive "low reduction" starter or it might become a kicker altogether.
    I like the hoca A10 cams.
    They are actually a tad shorter but wider lobe tips.
    You can sit on top end WOT without worry.
    They are mid to upper rpm cams but wont force a nasty idle or bind the engine.
    ....you still have a Final drive gear that can be changed up or down, and you can change the 3 springs in the rear clutch arms to hit even harder.
    Beware of the 2000rpm red springs: Ive broke clutch arms with those.
    When they snap, the trans dosen't want to disengage forward momentum.
    Not an accident you want happening in traffic.
    The scoot DOSE grab harder at a delayed 2000 rpm, but stuff snaps too.
    The lower the rpm, the softer and more durable it will stay.

    I never have good experience with lead acid batteries. I go with lithium ion for everything, even my tools. Not saying that some lead acid batteries aren't better than others, though. But, the battery was one of the first things I replaced when I got it I never even filed the electrolyte in the lead acid battery that came with it. I replaced the carb with the same size. With my particular bike, the jets were a little more rich than lean unlike what most would say about stock jets. But, I wanted to bre able to adjust the idle and clean it if necessary. I use a higher idle during winter. Now I will say that the kickstart on my old 50cc worked flawlessly, usually no more than three tries. The only time I've had trouble with that was when the valves needed adjusting. The kickstart on my 150cc never worked. I tried it from day one. After working on the transmission for stuff, I decided to just leave it off. The tires on my 150 had terrible grip. I slid a lot, not even braking hard. Fell off a few times. Never had a problem with grip on my smaller 50cc tires. So, I replaced the tires with a stickier compound. Grip is good now. I just swapped out the pair cylinder head on my 150. I've had too many issues with exhaust studs falling out. Red loctite didnt help, Its only good for about 450F. I tried different studs and replaced the cylinder head. I had the problem again. A co worker that has the problem suggested just using bolts. I'm using some Allen cap bolts with the spring washers and gasket at the moment. And replaced the cylinder head while I was at it with a non pair. I never had issues with my headlights, just wish they were brighter. I was going to swap my 8 stator for 11, but, didnt feel like dealing with the wiring. Although I have heard of a BDX adapter. I ended up putting some LED projector lights in with the halos. They're a lot brighter. I'm thinking of putting them on DC, though. In a way, I do miss my kickstand for my 150 for maintenance and oil checks. But, it would occasionally kit a slope or dip, so, I took it off. One of the biggest problems I have with my 150cc is that the parts are in very hard to reach areas. It's a sport motorcycle style. I can't reach my hand or tools in a lot of places just for simple tasks. I have to remove the engine just to adjust the valves or put on an exaust nut. I have to remove the front steering to access the ignition switch. So, while I'm fixing something, something else breaks in the process. The little angled terminal on the starter motor that connects the wire snapped when I had to remove the engine. A couple days in for a new starter now. They don't cost much, but, it sucks that I have to wait for a new part.

    • @XSevenSonata
      @XSevenSonata 4 года назад

      Oh, and one of the 8mm bolt heads that holds the starter on got rounded out, as expected. No matter how careful I was. While I was trying to remove the old starter. So, I ended up cutting it off. Locking pliers didn't help. Again, I fix one thing, something else breaks lol.

      Thanks. I try to give detail and honest opinions, and, I guess at some point I end up experiencing something. I cant afford much for quality parts, but, I try to get what I can in reason. I mean with it being my only transportation, I can't have something breaking on me. Generally i can fix it, but, Its the waiting that's more of a problem. At the moment I'm replacing all the bolts with better bolts. Have you got your light bar, yet? I like my new LEDs, just wish I could get rid of the flicker. I was thinking on putting them on the battery with a three way switch. So far the glixal variator and clutch is going okay. I have used anything else from Glixal, though. I would like to put the performance clutch back on, but, It's a pain taking the rpm springs off. I keep regretting that I didn't get a big bore kit. I replaced the cylinder head twice. Just feels like a waste.

    Awe man. Hey bud, how effective are those paper gaskets? I've got a bad oil leak after fixing an oil leak. The valve cover gasket and gasket between the cylinder and cylinder head are fine. The gasket between the cylinder and piston was paper and I accidentally ripped a chunk off. I'm not saying that's where the oil is leaking from, but, just trying to rule out the possibilities. I don't know where else. It's not the valve cover tube. The bike was on Its side, and, usually oil floods to the top when I lay it on the side. But, I'm not sure. The starter seal is questionable because I see a gap between the starter and the case. I didnt really compare it with my old starter size wise. Cant remember how flush it should be. I know Its engine oil and not transmission. I know where Its dripping and where Its coming from isn't the same thing, but, I don't see how oil would come from certain areas and end up where the puddle is. I mean if you think logic like gravity.

    • @kachiskid
      @kachiskid  4 года назад

      Paper gaskets are pretty effective. For any major problems, I would recommend using yamabond. That is how Yamaha seals up their engines from the factory. Hopefully very soon you will see, "if it's good for Yamaha, it's good for me"...lol. Sorry my friend but you know the plastics have to come off that engine to see a leak, assuming we are talking about a GY6 engine.

    • @XSevenSonata
      @XSevenSonata 4 года назад

      Okay I found it. Well, I don't know of that's the only leak, but, Its the gasket. Spraying right from where I ripped the gasket. Man this sucks. In a way Its not a problem. But, having to take the engine off again. And, having to wait several days to get a new gasket. I'm faced with having to call out of work, or, ride it anyways. That's a lot of oil. 1.5q oil per 4 miles. I spend like $12 a day on oil.

      Yeah, heard that does happen! GPS theft also, In my case the problem would be the place that I got the bike from. I go back tomorrow morning to see if it was cleared up.

      @@mrriddlez21 yes sir, I had to do twice the work on my latest start clutch replacement. Didn't change the gasket out the 1st time. I also have a semi striped bolt holding my cylinder so just a little oil. I will fix when I replace my cam. Get some Yamabond on Hondabond to seal your engine.

    As far as the Carb float bowl and idle mixture screws: They can be tapped and drilled out easily. If not, a decent replacement PD24J Carb can be had for around $30.
    As far as the exhaust bolts coming loose...That tends to be an issue with alot of "Lo Mein" scooters, mainly Tao Tao, as well as a cracked exhaust mounting bracket. Thread lock usually wont work because the exhaust components can easily exceed 600 degrees F. Which is beyond the temp threshold of most thread lockers including Loctite Red. I even thought about using split lock washers but I think the high temps would cause them to fail as well. The only thing I can think of is to try to reduce or absorb the vibrations as much as possible using some kinda bushings or even balancing the wheels.

      @kachiskid  4 года назад

      Yeah dealing with some things are a necessary evil with these bad boys. Since upgrading my exhaust, I haven't had one problem with the cylinder studs, and totally eliminated the connection to the swing arm. That is where all the vibration comes from.

    I don't like your mirrors from the cameras POV. It looks like your arms are in the way keeping you from seeing them.

      Honest opinion, but I love those mirrors. I could see nothing behind me with the old ones.
