The reason that it seems to have a different feel to this one is because it was composed and produced by Toddrick Hall, not Pentatonix. They just lent their voices and acting abilities to it. Still, excellent job by everyone as per usual. I love this one, especially the line "You're just a lion on the cold, hard ground" with Avi crouching in fear on the ground. Awesome.
'Say Something' HAS to be your next PTX video! 95% Kirstie & VERY emotional! 'My Favorite Things' is also 95% Kirsty and very fun - especially getting into the fall/ Halloween season!
Agree 100% with Michael's comments. I also suggest you check out "Shallow", as I believe it is better than the original - Kirstie, Scott, and Kevin all shine, and Mitch and Matt are brilliant in their supportive roles. A true masterpiece!
I know I seem to be doing this piecemeal, but, another suggestion for you would be their version on Amazing Grace. You also get more Kirstie in that one than most of their covers.
the "farewell" singing at the end is beautiful, and the part where Avi says "I wanna go home," gets me, knowing what we know about how he struggled with being away from his family and friends, and was part of the reason he left the group.
@@mjcole12 I know both Scott and Mitch dated Kirsty for a short time in high school. I have heard that Avi wanted something, but don't know if Kirsty felt the same way, nor do I know if they did have something. I heard it in the comments, and you really can't trust the comments. Which is why I tried to be clear about what I'm saying.
This came out in 2013, y'all should next do is the "2016 PopSpring performance", it's a long video (15 minutes)...they sang 4 songs, 3 of them are their originals. The last one on that vid was written and sung by Kirsty. I know y'all will love that one.
Genius...pure genius. Retelling the Wizard of Oz with all current music Next up...Superfruit singing "Defying Gravity" from 'Wicked' just to keep it in the Oz theme!
Everyone who watches this video seems to think that Pentatonix created it and ran the show, and that is not the case. Todrick Hall, who is a successful music producer, singer, and a former American Idol contestant, created it, produced it, picked the songs and costumes in it; it was Todrick's baby. He simply enlisted his friends PTX to be the cast members in this parody of The Wizard of Oz, with which Todrick is obsessed. PTX obviously did a fantastic job in this, but the video is Todrick's creation, not Pentatonix. I think many times he is not given enough credit for it.
For more of Kirsty led songs check out Rather Be and My Favorite Things, which are both upbeat. Some of their more upbeat songs try Sing (one their own songs), Blinding Lights, Come Along, Break My Heart, and Attention. Love watching the two of you. Keep up the great work.
Doesn't Kirstie make a great Dorothy? Not only singing the songs, but acting for not only Dorothy, but Glinda and the Wicked Witch as well - her musical theater training got a real workout in this one!
It only featured Pentatonix. Toddrick Hall Wrote and produced this....... The "trio" and Hall got their start in Community Theater........ So this was right up their Alley.........
Love the reaction guys. As far as hearing Kirstie's beautiful voice. Here are a few beautiful choices. Seasons of Love, is a live public television broadcast, they did for the fourth of July. It showcase's her rifts, runs and whistle notes. Beautifully. Lady Gaga's Shallow, is another good song Kirstie does. It's actually an upgrade. Kirstie does a fantastic job, and you Feel the music. Another is say Something. She does an absolutely stunning job in her expression, while singing this. And her voice takes you through all of the feelings of this song also.
Todrick Hall is also from Arlington, Texas and knew the trio when they were growing up, though he's a few years older than they are. Todrick published this on his RUclips channel just two months after Kirstie's twenty-first birthday. This was the first time Kirstie actually took the lead in anything Pentatonix did. The little dog Kirstie was holding in the first scene was Todrick's dog, and it was actually named "Toto," but once Dorothy lands in Oz Toto is played by Kevin. This is because they needed a reason for Kevin to appear in every scene and they were running out of characters. Note that Toto sure seems to be singing a lot, considering that he's supposed to be a dog. In the movie, the house crushed the Wicked Witch of the East, whose sister was the Wicked Witch of the West; this is why the Wicked Witch of the West was scheming against Dorothy. Dorothy was met by short people known as Munchkins, specifically by the Munchkin Lollipop Guild. Each of the three companions Dorothy met in Oz had his own quest that made him want to meet the Wizard: • The Scarecrow wanted a brain, so Scott, as the Scarecrow, sings "Do you think about me still?" • The Tin Man wanted a heart, so Mitch, as the Tin Man, sings, "My heart is broken, so broken." • The Cowardly Lion wants courage, and is trying to cover up his cowardice with bravado, so Avi sings "I can't be tamed, I can't be blamed, I can not be..." (Note: You can find the lyrics and sources here: genius.com/Todrick-hall-the-wizard-of-ahhhs-lyrics ) Notice the yellow bricks scattered on the road beyond Avi when Dorothy meets the Cowardly Lion. This is because the road they're following to the Emerald City, where the wizard lives, is the Yellow Brick Road. Of course, in the movie it's actually PAVED with yellow bricks, but this was an easy way to reference it. Kirstie was playing all three of the major female characters from the movie: Dorothy Gale, Glinda the Good Witch, and the Wicked Witch of the West (Side). But Dorothy also needed to be in the scenes with the witches, so they made sure to show Dorothy only from the back in those scenes, so she could be played by a stand-in. The same is true of the Scarecrow in the scene with the Wicked Witch of the West Side, because Scott and Kevin were playing the two guards behind the witch. The costumes were rented from a professional costume company; I'm impressed that they had a munchkin costume available for a man who's 6'4". There's an excellent Behind the Scenes video for this; you can find it here: ruclips.net/video/C6yQa3oC7gM/видео.html
The opening to The Wizard of Oz was actually shot in black-and-white and switched to Technicolor when Dorothy arrived in Oz to reinforce the magical theme.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this. If you would like more, please check out Superfruit (Scott and Mitch, sometimes with guests). They do a cover of Frozen with Kirsty (it's hysterical) and Defying Gravity from Wicked. It was Scott's birthday and he wanted Mitch to do this as a gift. Again, amazing!!!
Scott headlines their new one, “I Rise” which is not visual, but love, love all the energy of the group, with a military vibe, yet so much more can be inferred. They just continue their music expansion and creativity. Hopefully, they will make a video of the song, if they haven’t yet.
Kirstie focus songs: Water (original), Rather Be, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, My Favorite Things, Be My Eyes (original), Shallow Upbeat/fun songs: Sing (original), Come Along, Love Again, Happy Now (original), Making Christmas, Mr. Grinch, No, ButterxDynamite
For a little backstory, Toddrick Hall, went to the same high school that Mitch, Scott and Kirsty did, he was just a year ahead of them. They all did know each other, on a friendly basis, maybe friends. He is best known as a contestant then a part time judge on Rupaul's Drag Race.
Great reaction!! If you want some of their fun songs, I suggest "Can't Hold Us", "Problem" or from Baby-Tonix "Starships". Their original song "Sing" is also great! I think Sam would enjoy "Evolution of Michael Jackson". Keep up the great work! I am always excited to see your PTX reactions. 😊
Recoomendation if you want to hear more of Kirstie: My Favorite Things. One of the most classic songs of all time with a Pentatonix twist. Think Sound of Music meets Tim Birton.
Scott, Mitch and Kirstie (The Trio or at least some of them) met and or worked with Toddrick (the wizard) in musical theater in Texas. Pretty cool production and a lot of fun. PTX did a version of Over the Rainbow I think it is on their Classics EP that also had Bohemian Rhapsody. Most of the Home songs at the end were also on the Pandemic EP Home that was released during the shutdown part of the pandemic (summer 2020). They did the Home EP since their European tour got cancelled. They recorded the music and filmed videos in different parts of the country, wherever home was. It all got mixed and edited and released to help keep Pentaholics sane during the early part of the pandemic.
I also wish you guys would have found them earlier on cause like 3-4 years ago people with very low subs were getting like 5-10k viewers. I know it makes it easier on reactors to react to people that also get them views so the channel can grow as well. A lot of my favorite people to react to found ptx now when they arent pulling crazy amount of views
I'd love to see you explore more Pentatonix, you have barely scratched the surface! If you like upbeat songs, try their "Evolution of" medleys - Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Ariana Grande - Happy Now is an original of theirs - The did covers of "Gold" (Kiara), Cheerleader, When the Party's Over, Havana, Shallow, Perfect - so many more current ones.
Todrick Hall grew up obsessed with The Wizard of Oz. In addition to this, he wrote an album of songs that told his life story with references to Oz. The album, "Straight Outta Oz", generated a live tour, a documentary musical film, music videos and a followup extended album. One track on the extended album also features Scott and Mitch (as SuperFruit) and Kirstie, "Black & White" -- ruclips.net/video/XtzF0b7gjZQ/видео.html
You really should check out more of Toddrick Hall’s work. As someone else said, this was his brainchild, he just had Pentatonix starring in it. He’s done quite a bit on his own. Check out his “Disneyfied” version of Cell Block Tango from Chicago.
Y’all gotta check out more Guns n roses they have soooo many underrated songs Coma and Dust N Bones and Double Talkin Jive are some of my favs they never disappoint
great description, by the way- but even more than that- the Scarecrow song is "thinking bout you.." he needs a brain.. tin man is about his damaged heart.. he needs a heart.. and lion is about courage....... it's sooooo amazingly well done!
For fans of the Wizard of Oz, Todrick Hall also made an original visual album (can be watched as a movie kinda) called Straight out of Oz... It mixes his kind of life story (or maybe inspired by it) with The Wizard of Oz story... It has a bunch of guests, including Kirsty, Scott and Mitch (at least in the deluxe version)... Has a nice mix of different styles in there too... I don't know if you feel like reacting to it all, but it's totally worth checking out, I think.
While Toddrick has shown his a$$ and became somewhat problematic, he does have talent. Check out his Hocus Pocus spoof "Staight Out of Salem", and his show "Straight Out of Oz". Apparently he has a thing for Oz, and admittedly did a wonderful job writing a musical comparing his life to the Wizard of Oz in a way the general public really could relate to. I highly recommend it.
If you like Pentatonix as an A Capella group, you should check out Home Free. Pentatonix won Season Three of the show "The Sing Off", which kick-started their fame. The Season 4 winner, Home Free, got the same boost to their fame. They are truely amazing. Home Free has 5 guys in the group. They have arguably the best beat box in the A Capella world and they have one of the best bass voices out there. I can suggest a few Home Free songs to start your journey into country A Capella music: Ring of Fire (featuring Avi from Pentatonix, one of the songs that won them the Sing Off - 43 million views on RUclips) How Great Thou Art (showing their great mixing of their voices, 27 million views on RUclips) My Church (15 million views on RUclips) God Bless the USA (featuring Lee Greenwood and the US Air Force Band - 6 million views) - this song was recorded during the heart of the Covid lockdown from several places in the US and put together for the final version.
Don’t feel too badly Phil, about your unfamiliarity with the subject…one of your fellow reactors, a rather good one, about 2 minutes into the song said…this must have been some kind of a movie😂😂😂 He got crucified for it! Lol
🎉Hello Brother I am a experienced thumbnail designer, After seeing your thumbnails I think you need me , I make a demo thumbnail for you (How I Send You) 💖 Wating for your Reply !!
This begs the question/statement, will y'all ever consider/transitioning to movie reactions?! 🤷😊Trust me you two, y'all already have your audience, y'all have that "IT" factor, that a movie reaction channel will go along way, just from someone who has been watching RUclips videos for over 15 years 🙏 something to think about 😉
Again your caring , respect, and non-judgement is inspiring. Thanks to both of you!

They do know that Superfruit is Mitch and Scott from PTX, right?
Yes yes yes
The songs that were chosen were genius and very well done, which is what you can always expect with Pentatonix.

Be My Eyes - Kirstie wrote it and has the vocal lead
To meld the story with cover music done by an accapella group as the characters. So creative and professionally polished.
💯
Check out Be My Eyes where Kirsty is also the lead vocalist. fun and creative video too

She sounds beautiful in say something she sings at 95 % of the time or shallow
Watch their My Favorite Things, another great one where Kirstie takes the lead and is a very different take on a very well known song
Absolutely fantastic, never seen this video before. Great critique on the video.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it with us!
❤ Great Reaction!! 😅 If you like their up beat music try Daft Punk Medley, it was their first Grammy Award winner!! Luv you guys 😊❤

Recommend their cover of I Just Called To Say I Love You.
You should check out Eva Cassidy's version. Its incredible and you well never forget it. Her guitar work and singing are amazing.
If you really want one with more Kirsten, then try "Say Something."
Guys, please watch the collaborations that PTX did with Lindsey Stirling. They did Radioactive and a song called Papaoutai. Both are amazing songs.

God Bless the USA (featuring Lee Greenwood and the US Air Force Band - 6 million views) - this song was recorded during the heart of the Covid lockdown from several places in the US and put together for the final version.
Watch Shallow if you really want Kirstie power
More PTX please!!!!!!
I highly recommend OG A CAPELLA STRAIGHT NO CHASER
You guys should listen to "The Duke" by Lamb of God. Pretty good song.
Munchkins, Sam. 😃
You guys must realize this is a Toddrick Hall production. So it’s more for theatrics. Pentatonic was just a collaboration.
Don’t feel too badly Phil, about your unfamiliarity with the subject…one of your fellow reactors, a rather good one, about 2 minutes into the song said…this must have been some kind of a movie😂😂😂 He got crucified for it! Lol
This video is awesome, not sure if you reacted to Daft Punk?
I'd highly Recommend checking out Tim Foust Will you still love me Tomorrow/Stay
Great reaction 👏. Dude, you don't know Wizard of Oz ? Have you been living under a rock? Catch up dude.
