Beautiful beautiful beautiful. Simply a truly great song. If you should ever venture this way Paul, and whimsically glance at a few of these comments...please accept my heartfelt thanks for this gift.
he made this song for John, so many references from the friendship they have, the funeral of John's mother, the way they meet. just watch The Nowhere Boy, the history of John, how they know each other, his family, its a good film.
One of the best songs ever! Such a beautiful song about the friendship and love between Paul and John. Paul has written a genius tribute to his lost friend.
Every time I hear this, I cannot help to think about Paul and John meeting and the struggles they faced. They persevered and as a result, we were all blessed by their music, then and now! This is just a glimpse as I believe Sir Paul's best days are yet to come!
Balling. Absolutely balling. I needed to hear this. We tend to go back in our minds to the circumstances surrounding the breakup of the Fab Four, and the anger between Paul and the others. Age does make us wiser and mellows us. Thank you sweet and talented Paul, and to God for the awesome gift of music to be enjoyed by all!
This song and the video, too, is all about how it all got started with The Beatles. Teenagers in love with music, getting it together, becoming friends for life. I see it as a great hommage to the days that are never to happen again, those innocent days of early youth. Not only for The Beatles but for everyone of us.
May sweet memories of friends from the past Always come to you, when you look for them And your inspiration, long may it last May it come to you, time and time again These are good luck words for me. Thank you very much, Paul.
"May sweet memories of friends from the past always come to you, when you look for them/ And your inspiration, long may it last. May it come to you, time and time again.” That might be the most beautiful sentiment I’ve ever heard in my life. I want to cry when I hear that. And I do. This is proof of why, in his SEVENTH decade of songwriting, Macca is THE MASTER.
The most free and joyful music America celebrates came from forgotten Black musicians. And that includes the British Invasion, who were ALL inspired by 78's & 45's brought to England on tramp steamers from America. They waited on the docks to hear that incredible sound. And they handed it back to us. I don't want invented instant super stars. Music is Joy is Life. Blessed be the forgotten.
Amen. I remember the 50's. We were SERVED. My landlord tells me he was in the military then, in Okinawa, and they got to listen to WLAC (John R, Horeseman) every night through a long chain of shortwave radio and then ship-to-shore radio. We all had a right to rhythm & blues music and elders stepped in to make sure that we got what we needed. If your child asks for bread, would you give him a stone? If your child asks for rock & roll, would you give him a Pat Boone record? They waited on the docks and we waited outside the record stores on release dates or ordered those 3-band albums (Chuck Berry, Clyde McPhatter, Mickey & Sylvia) from Nashville. Our parents were glad we had good taste. Thanks, Mom.
Oh I hate when people consider only technical aspect of the voice. He may not be so good here from this point of view, but emotions are great and so real, this is how this song sounds best. period!
Jay Awesome Music Yes. His writing will just accommodate his voice in the coming years. He'll lose a lot more top register but will gain stronger lower register and the wisdom of age will be reflected in his voice. He may turn into Frank Sinatra but that's cool - it's still Macca. Sinatra never wrote a song in his life but Paul's got many more still in him.
Beatsman I personally like his voice here, it accommodates the song very well. That’s the thing bout him and the other Beatles, the voices weren’t the best; they were average but everything else around them was so extraordinary and the simplicity in the voice made it so much better.
Lennard Lennard Oh yea, towards the end of the Beatles; all of their voices have improved significantly, especially McCartney. His best singing came in like at 68 and went through all the way too late 70’s early 80’s where it was in it’s prime. If you hear early Beatle tracks you can flaws and to be honest I love it. At concerts, before he does please me he tells the story bout how that was the first song he was signed on to sing and he was super nervous and that you can hear it shake. I absolutely love it. It added character and as time went on you saw them improve even more from a couple of kids to a couple of men.
This is a great short film, and may be more personal to Paul's life than people understand. It seems some people are hung up on Color, but all of our stories on love and lost are universal. It takes a great artist like Paul to help point that out.
God bless you Paul!! My favorite song from the last album, so melancholic and nostalgic, so beautiful... Thanks for existing Paul, hope you come to Argentina someday cause I never saw you!! Take care Sir!
Oh Paul. This video is beautiful. I love the concept, the images, everything about it. The John and Paul characters are so adorable and sweet. Watching their friendship unfold made me cry while listening to the song. You must miss John so much.
I can't stop watching this video, it's so beautiful and I keep picking up on something new every time. As far as the details go, this is what I came up with: The Paul character is the boy with the hat walking towards the gang of boys with his guitar case. The John character is the boy sitting on top of the lorry with his guitar. They are introduced by the boy with glasses (maybe a composite of Ivan Vaughn/Pete Shotton?). They shake hands and start playing guitar at each other, one right handed, one left handed. There is no George character here. The boy with glasses and the drummer are the rest of the "band" but I think they are not as important as Boy 1 (John) and Boy 2 (Paul). You notice these two walking around town with guitars, eating ice cream, running through fields, sharing records... John and Paul, you can't miss them! :) I think the funeral scene is a memory of when Julia died. It was the time when Paul and John bonded even more because now they both had no mothers.
John and Paul with "two guitars across their backs" ... "seeking someone who would listen to the music" that they were writing down at home: how magnificent is it that even 60 years later there are millions who would do anything to listen to them? What a beautiful video, what a wonderful song about friendship, music, emotions, life, this is why I love Paul! :)
Paul used to say that apart from all the fame, the fighting, the craziness that seemed to follow them later, what he remembers most fondly after all those years were him and John ditching schools, walking home down the street in liverpool, two guitars across their backs, hiding away to write songs and spend time together
Paul has so much respect for the whole Beatle thing. John, Ringo, and especially George didn't. It's like when they looked back on it, they hated it or something, which is sad. Nice that Paul realizes the magic that they had. When I first heard this song, holy choke up. Great song and the best from the NEW album (which is a good album, btw).
But I believe Ringo too, don´t know much about them, but the basic.. he was the one who keep the friendship with the other three without a big/public controversy.
Especially George didnt? Incorrect. If you haven't, you need to listen When We Was Fab by George. Also watch the Beatles Anthology if you haven't. They don't hate it, not even a little bit.
This song is beautiful. Reminds me off my best and only friend, Lydia. R.I.P. I understand why people don't like this, it's because they don't understand it. Love Paul and his songs. (:
I'm glad Paul McCartney shows he can still make a great album when he puts his mind to it. Not too many people who were thought of as creative are still actually creating. I believe Paul McCartney would be writing songs even if no one was listening any more; I believe he still writes because he has to. Plus, it's a cheap buzz for him...
Love John. Love Paul. Love George. Love Ringo....what more can I say? Their music changed my life forever! I love Paul's new song. Early days. Thanks Paul
Beatles references throughout... 1:05 Paul being introduced to John at the Woolton Garden Fete 1:24 John was impressed because Paul knew some chords he didn't 2:03 the two would play at John's mother's house who encouraged them 2:54 possibly a reference to Paul's fight with Stuart Sutcliffe although the actor playing John is fighting here 2:51 possible reference to Stuart Sutcliffe's technical ability as an artist 3:00 Cynthia Lennon 3:11 Death of John's mother 4:01 acknowledgement of George's contribution to the group 4:24 Hamburg 4:55 leaving the Star Club and old friends behind to catch the fame train. 5:06 tribute to Astrid Kerchherr 1960 fairground photo of the Beatles with Sutcliffe on the right, Paul holding his upside down guitar the same way and Pete Best holding his drumsticks in a similar way. Time to get wistful, but still providing hope and inspiration to new generations of bandmates and songwriters. Music is the hope of the world. Thanks Paul.
Beautiful video, made me nostalgic for Paul and John, friendships built long ago that may not be anymore but we will always have those early days. favorite song on the album. RIP John Lennon ❤️✌️
This is such a beautiful song, it's in my Top3 from Sir Paul songs. Heartwarming, soul loving words with his voice. His story and only his made with an awesome video. What a gift to the world.
I' m from Ecuador and four months ago i had the the greatest moment of my life because i was in Quito watching his concert. I can rest in peace after that....Thanks Sir Paul McCartney
I believe there are many was to interpret this video. what I got from it was toward the end when they all had the glasses on (like john wore) was trying to say there are many amazing musicians out there all like john, they can be any race or colour, and they can all be talented and inspire people. It was about his and john's story and the lyrics always bring me to tears. amazing video once again paul, one of my favourites!!
Collect my thoughts thru tears. 1. This is a piece of art, not just a rock video from the 80s. Yes, we love it. 2. I needed 2hear this from Paul. I'm happy he shared his innermost feelings. This puts the nail on the coffin of the 'Beatle breakup saga' in our hearts/minds. The love is there & time heals. 3. I have waited til now, at 53, 2say what many have said b4 me... Music, & particularly from my faves such as Paul, has been a tool in the hand of God 2make my life tolerable I was a sick kid, too sick 2watch telly, but could keep my eyes closed & listen. My condition improved. I make music 4a living & I can sing too, which the doctor's told me I never would do! Who was my inpiration? Many, & Paul was 1 of the top ones. Saw ya in '76 Chicago Stadium, age 15. Let's not forget the role Linda, Nancy & Paul's kids have played in who he is 2day. I do believe in the promise at Psalm 37:29. 'Forever' is the promise I make to Paul. You/your work is part of who I am. Blessings to all who created this astonishing video/piece of art! x
Anyone else notice how one of the kids is playing the guitar left handed like Paul? And then the passing of one of the kids mother? As the song tells the story of John and Paul, so does the video.
Wonderful video for the wonderful song... I think the song itself is really intimate, so is the video. Sir, you really are my idol. I don't know any other artists who's been doing their passion so well since the day they started. I hope you keep up the good job and I really really hope someday I will have the opportunity to listen this song live! (:
Not all artists can keep singing and writing songs for so long as Paul does. The guitars are nicely layered in; geesh, another nice one, Paul and, with a cool story of days gone by that were quite different than today, in the music world, of which you sing the soul of it all cannot be taken away from those who were there' where it's at.'
Yo lo vi en Quito - Ecuador, lo máximo...!!! I saw him in Quito - Ecuador, the best of the best, thanks Paul for your music and all four from Liverpool...
Heard it the day you released it James Paul, and could only listen/watch once. You wrapped it all up in one song, and no, no one can take it from you. I was emotionally ready to sit down to listen/watch again today, and it is brilliant, just brilliant. I'm leaving for the UK for a few months, unable to work, but able to play my guitar. I'll be singing it to everyone and promoting NEW. Lots of love to all who put this master piece together. PS I am from Chicago, love blues & this video is amazing.
Es uno de los vídeos que más me han llegado, con una letra hermosa y que representa ese amor de grandes amigos que aún en mi tiempo te llena de paz y hace que la vida cobre más sentido.
I just saw Paul in Pittsburg and he was amazing---it's not the first time I have seen him. Any person who is 72 is going to sound older, but last Monday night--his voice, energy, and musicianship was excellent. I love this song as I do the New album-he performed several songs from it. I have read many books now about how John and Paul, got together and so yes, they were greatly influenced by American music-and introduced us to some we didn't know. The Beatles and Paul will be going strong for many more years. I have loved him for 50 years and hope to see him perform many more times until he's no longer touring.
+Rosen Bar Well, the two leads are John and Paul; Paul is in the hat and John in the newsboy cap. The other (white) boy -- George? Could be Ivan Vaughan as he makes the introductions of John and Paul. I'm honestly note sure about that one though. The death is that of Stuart. The girl is likely Cynthia Lennon.
Here 😀👍🙏💛💙in June 2024; Paul McCartney is now 82 years old and going strong. 💪😃 Came over here after hearing Weekly ⬆️ Northern Songs program on sxm 📻 radio Beatles channel. God bless and protect Sir Paul 💖 and his beloved 😍🤩 extended family, including all his Beatle brothers and their families too.✝️🛐💟🛡️✨🕯️✨🕊️
I like this song a lot. New is a great album. I've seen Paul (live) about 13 times over the years. I had wished we could see him on this tour. Too expensive for our budget. Glad to see you're feeling better Paul, and good luck with the tour.
Love the music and the idea behind the video being symbolic and no too obvious. Beatle stuff in a sense. About Paul´s voice weakness in this song seems intentional to me too, an older guy than whos singing. The rest of songs in that album are very powerful singing wise. Oh well, I might be wrong. Who cares anyway? Peace and Love.
Too bad we can't travel back in time. the Beatles music makes you want to try, though. Those days are gone except in our memories, which are so precious. One day we will lose Paul and Ringo, so we have to make the best out of the time we have with them. I was 5 yrs old in 1963 when they came and I still remember that moment in history. It will be a tragic day when they're gone. Rodger
Retire? He's lost it? Man, I wish I had a sliver of what he has right now. He can sing and he can write and he can play until the bitter end, as far as I'm concerned. He deserves it. And we are lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky we all had him give us his music. He could have turned another corner and there would have been no "Hey, Jude," no "Yesterday," and no "Early Days." Paul, thanks taking your path and sharing your gift to the world.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful. Simply a truly great song. If you should ever venture this way Paul, and whimsically glance at a few of these comments...please accept my heartfelt thanks for this gift.
wonderful comment! 🤩
Skvost.
he made this song for John, so many references from the friendship they have, the funeral of John's mother, the way they meet. just watch The Nowhere Boy, the history of John, how they know each other, his family, its a good film.
I guess he did it also for George, Stu,... But yes, the song is mostly about Him and John Winston Lennon.
But why black boys?
I like how on the first chorus he sang John's part and on the second chorus he sang his harmony.
50 years later, we in the music industry and the recording studio pros here in LA, are still chasing this guy.
Nice post
Media/West Productions what do you mean?
🤗🤗
What a lovely song! Paul is a treasure and we are so fortunate he continues to write and perform. I love it.
Incredabl

Paul's insight on what he shares with us...Beatle Fans... is truly wonderful. He shows where and who helped to inspire John and him. Thanks.
What a marvellous video and song. Crying my eyes out.

May sweet memories of friends from the past
Always come to you, when you look for them

These are good luck words for me.

Beatsman he sings like that because he is probably remembering the past

まるで映画のような美しいPVが仕上がりましたね。この曲も素晴らしいですが、本当に『NEW』というアルバムは最高のアルバムになりましたね。時間が経つほどに強く感じます。

Such an emotional song. Makes me think of Paul and John as kids and how much Paul must still miss him.
wonderful song / video brought tears to my eyes .
PEACE AND LOVE
yaay it's about him and John i'm sobbing !!!!
Getting myself sick from crying. x
Yeah. Me too.
John and Paul with "two guitars across their backs" ... Love it Paul! It's kinda combination of Blackbird and Mother's Nature Son. LOVE LOVE LOVE!
I hear All Things Must Pass. The ascending progression is very similar.
Yeah, I heard mother nature's son too.
I heard Plastic Ono, f--- you both.
Paul used to say that apart from all the fame, the fighting, the craziness that seemed to follow them later, what he remembers most fondly after all those years were him and John ditching schools, walking home down the street in liverpool, two guitars across their backs, hiding away to write songs and spend time together

Not true, look up "In Liverpool" by Ringo. It's the same sentiment.
Well Paul is Faulll or whatever...haha.😎
But I believe Ringo too, don´t know much about them, but the basic.. he was the one who keep the friendship with the other three without a big/public controversy.

why put any of them down? you don't know. don 't let your love for one make you forget there were always 4.
Great video.
Beautiful!! Just beautiful... thank you for your wonderful music over all these years.... You helped me through it.
Best singer of all-time! Long live Sir. Paul McCartney
This song is beautiful. Reminds me off my best and only friend, Lydia. R.I.P. I understand why people don't like this, it's because they don't understand it. Love Paul and his songs. (:
Awesome as always, love the falsettos. Keep rockin' Paul !
Perfect song. I love it, and I love the voice of Paul.

Love John. Love Paul. Love George. Love Ringo....what more can I say? Their music changed my life forever! I love Paul's new song. Early days. Thanks Paul
Mine too. Even saved it, I think. x
Another superb mini-movie. Paul and Vincent nailed the sentiment perfectly. Bravo!
This song brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful in words and music. Long may you continue to create, Paul.
so one of the last scenes. of them running. says so much and nothing at the same time, incredible
Beautiful story on the video. They captured the Paul John thing so well. I love the last single had a futuristic video and this one is a throwback :)
I'm so glad that they made a music video out of this song, as it's my favorite one on his album.

So beautifully done. Thank you.
This is beautiful. I think of Paul and John when they were young when I listen to this. Love the album.
This is amazing. The effort that was put in this is amazing. Great song.

I'm crying, this is beautiful
Paul is unique!, always i admired him, and now more.

Beautiful like everything he does.
This time the sound he gets is so clear... Just amazing.
It's perfect. I love you and your great music. You are always in my heart.
Thank you for you, Sir Paul McCartney.
Good luck! 3
I was crying throughout the entire video. we miss you, John..
I could see Linda sat at his side in Scotland just singing along to this and being happy together . ☺
Wow. I never heard this one. I like it! Made me feel good.
HE DID IT AGAIN
Yo lo vi en Quito - Ecuador, lo máximo...!!! I saw him in Quito - Ecuador, the best of the best, thanks Paul for your music and all four from Liverpool...
Beautifully nostalgic. Love it. Rock on Paul!
Am I the only one here who notices Lennon glasses all over the video? Especially at the end. A discrete way to remember the fab four. LOVE IT
+Rosen Bar Well, the two leads are John and Paul; Paul is in the hat and John in the newsboy cap. The other (white) boy -- George? Could be Ivan Vaughan as he makes the introductions of John and Paul. I'm honestly note sure about that one though. The death is that of Stuart. The girl is likely Cynthia Lennon.
+Bee V I think the one who died was John's mother Julia? The other two in the band obviously are ringo and george
Could be George and Pete
The creativity just keeps flowing, stay young Paul, stay young!!
I am crying so much
"And your inspiration , long may it last...may it come to you time and time again..."
What a blessing.
I miss his beautiful voice, his music is as good as ever!
Why do you miss it? He's on tour right now.
I think they're implying that Macca's voice is getting on a bit now, but his music is still brilliant.
LOL at peole being in denial about his voice getting older. It's okay to be a fan of someone but you still gotta see what's true and real.
Here 😀👍🙏💛💙in June 2024; Paul McCartney is now 82 years old and going strong. 💪😃 Came over here after hearing Weekly ⬆️ Northern Songs program on sxm 📻 radio Beatles channel. God bless and protect Sir Paul 💖 and his beloved 😍🤩 extended family, including all his Beatle brothers and their families too.✝️🛐💟🛡️✨🕯️✨🕊️
Hardly. Listen to his voice. McCarthy back stabbed Lennon. John Lennon may have forgiven him, I have not.
Best musician of all time.
P.S. Happy Birthday Ringo! :D
*****
meow
***** Cats? ... ohhh but...of Wich country are you?
I wouldn't say the best musician but more like the best singer/songwriter
Yes, but please, let us not forget, John, George and Ringo. They were the best also.,...
***** i subscribed to u cuz u like the beatles. u go mate
I like this song a lot. New is a great album. I've seen Paul (live) about 13 times over the years. I had wished we could see him on this tour. Too expensive for our budget. Glad to see you're feeling better Paul, and good luck with the tour.
Yay I'm excited to see my cousin Darious in the video! He did a awesome job!
Yay! How exciting!
Your music cleared the pathway of love and understanding. Your the best. The south thanks you.
You are amazing Paul...A musical genius There will never be another like you and music will never be forgotten from me to you "Maybe I'm amazed"
Loved it...great song and video...
Great story telling, from the master teller... so well done.
Paul McCartney...Maestro of Music
thank you Boss Macca for the musical inspiration since 66 for me .....love and respect to you
"Here's a song I wrote about the Beatles! Just when we were growing up, ya know... I'm Paul!"
--Paul McCartney, 2014.
He's Paul!
Paul is sounding his 70+ years now, but still gets it right. The man is a Beatle after all.
Rodger
rrhone I wish I experienced it😔
Gorgeous! Sir Paul You always surprise me, everything you do is great. Your show was the best I've watched in my life. Thank you.
Thank you Paul.
John and Paul black version ><
GREAT VIDEO, GREAT SONG!
