The non-threatening “baby talk” tone the rescuers use when approaching these dogs is essential-
Dogs are smart-They instinctively know when a good person is handling their babies.

It also helps that the rescuers are women.
Usually if a dog was abused, it was by a man. Nervous dogs often feel less threatened by women.
Dogs are left gaze bias... which means when they encounter a human they will default to the left side of the face to gauge disposition... surprisingly enough if you split a human's face in half and make a mirror image of each a person can look totally different in both images... few species are left gaze bias one of them is humans... i highly recommend the Nova doc "Dogs Decoded" it's an amazing look into the history and nature of Dogs.

The way you just charged in there and stuck your upper body into a hole to rescue puppies not knowing what else might be in there I'm just so happy and grateful there's somebody out there like you looking after animals
Donna is an angel, I've seen her crawl through worse than that to rescue an animal. I'm with you, it makes me so happy and grateful that this world is blessed by people like her and everyone who rescues an animal in need.

@San Patricio's Space Dolphin Brigada Aww. I remember a sad story about a jeep in St. Louis that was stolen. Unfortunately in the back of the jeep there was a feral cat in a trap who had just been neutered. The cops recovered the jeep but not the cat. That still bugs me.
@San Patricio's Space Dolphin Brigada No worries! No, I’d never be the kind of person to mess around like that. Why would they try to kill your puppy?! That sucks. Plus I bet it’s too expensive to move. Can you get a security system? I hear that Simpli Safe is good since it uses cell phone instead of a phone line. Also security cameras might help. But if it’s just neighbors who hate dogs, all I can say is be vigilant and don’t let her outside without supervision. I hope you and her and your family remain safe.

What truly beautiful mummy and pups thanks for saving them
The entire time at the beginning I could tell she was scared but sweet.... You can see it in their body language and she had the body language of saying "I don't want to hurt you but if you threaten my pups, I will". They set the mood whenever they changed their tone of voice then she became playful and relieved.... Even whenever they moved too fast or picked her up, she still wasn't mean and if that doesn't teach you that dogs can read humans like a book then IDK what will.

YOU GUYS. Stray Rescue of STL is THE BEST organization on EARTH. They save SO MANY LIVES and turned our city no kill by taking over the animal control services. I volunteered with them and adopted my sweet soul mate dog from them. They are amazing amazing people with amazing amazing animals. I love that they are featured on the dodo!
Crown Candy is such a great mama! (Named after the most amazing place to grab lunch, malts, and candy!) Those babies were thiccc and well protected. So glad they’re all safe and loved now!
