The movie from this game is quite known here in Brazil because it used to be broadcasted in a very popular daily TV show, in the afternoon. So many good memories seeing you guys playing this one
"The game was actually made by SNK." This is false. The game was actually made by Technos Japan which was their first game for the Neo Geo hardware. Their name is even shown first thing in the intro.
Capcom fg guys, especially the older ones, who are more stuck in a bubble than other fg fans, are extremely ignorant about other jp fgs, including the SNK/Neogeo world. Even nowadays i always find people thinking that any Neogeo game was made by SNK.
I was looking for this comment. This is really a good fighting game, it's kinda sad that they didn't made more games beside Voltage Fighter (Which personally i don't like)
The game did well with stages and especially stage interactions for the time. Some interaction ideas were more advanced than some of SNK and Capcom in those years. Now one thing that aged horribly was the excessive screen flash, that for some reason was a "trend" around the mid 90s. Even Capcom used it, but less than SNK, notably around XvSF and MvSF. Now this DD fg is a special example of that trend.
Great game. Marian is *very* different here than from the other DD games. In those she is a classic damsel in distress, here she is a badas more than capable of defending herself.
My grandma had a grocery store on her house with a couple of arcades, one day the guys that managed the arcade's put this game, I and other kid's played it a lot that day, my grandma closed the store at night but let me enter the store from the backdoor my uncle's had a party that night in her house they lend me some money to keep playing it was one of the best days eating BBQ and playing this game alone without other kids pestering me.
I remember playing these in a local seedy tavern/arcade machine back in the day. Its a really good and fun fighting game. The movie is based on? Not so much
This was the game I always wanted as a kid but we could barely afford Nintendo games let alone getting a Neo Geo. After finding MAME a few years back, it has quickly become one of my favorite fighting games of all time. I’m not even good at it but it’s so fun I don’t care.
You say these are the most hype matches, is there a place where you share the entire tourney? I'd love to see more of these silly ass games. World needs more Jackie Chan Fists of Fire.
Dont know if little fighters 2 is considered a fighting game or beat em up but check that one out for old retro games. You had to do 2d fighter inputs for moves but the levels are like a beat em up. The game was homebrew but it had tons of characters and saiyans ftw
That game was so fun to play with friends in jr high lol I remember learning to do special moves and and blowing my buddies minds because none of us had ever played arcade fighters lol
I have played various versions of double dragon as a kid for nes, snes, sega genesis and arcarde. But this one was my personal favourite bcuz its a fighting game almost similar to street fighter. Gd memories!!
bruh!!! blast from the past!! I lived in Dubai back in the day and there was a neighborhood arcade that had this! played this to death even tho i wast any good at it
I know the family that owned Tradewest, the company that produced it in America that and Battletoads. The dream job in my hometown was to be a video game tester for them lol.
There's one game which needed a part 2. Garou mark of the wolves was so well done IMHO I would love to see what they could do with it while keeping the same mechanics art and gameplay
Oh, you must mean Double Dragon V: The Shadow Falls, based on the short lived cartoon. Technos wasn't actually involved with that game at all, it was made by Leland Interactive and published by Tradewest.
Abobo in this for some reason looks like one of those thugs from fist of the northstar lol and when he flexes it's like he got "O'mae wa mo shinderu'd"
Lil bit of lore here : im belgian(french speaking) and the movie was made in france(sorry guys) a known french content maker did a series of movie critics based on the fact that they were video game adapted and this movie was one o them i think they are subtitles available you should really peep this out ! What a horrible game 😂😂😂
I remember seeing this game in a magazine. It was my first time learning about the AES. But at $650 I knew I wouldn't be able to get it. I still have not seen one in real life.
The game based on the movie based on the game? I used to watch the Double Dragon cartoon when I was a kid. I thought this was the game based on the cartoon based on the movie based on the game.
Yes how did u get this game 🤣 loved it on the arcade Edit: Dulton was my main just loved how is his super was to input plus buff dude throw fiery punches awesome
Isn't fightcade great? That shit has spoiled the online experience of regular consoles (specially the switch) far beyond repair for me :D Also, I'm loving this random fighting games content you have been putting out!
Hey, not cursed, it happens to be super badass! Sure, we should've gotten another beat em up, which is how it started. Still, it has great gameplay, beautiful graphics, a nice roster of interesting characters. Besides, at least it's a leagues better fighter than Double Dragon 5, which felt like a dollar store World Heroes clone.
Funny how probably most american fg fans, even the older ones, know nothing of SNK/Neogeo history... like which fgs were actually made by SNK or not. Though Neogeo fgs were out at the same time of Capcom's fgs in the 90s, and even in higher number than Capcom fgs. Ok the younger players being ignorant though, as for them Neogeo is an ancient exotic thing.
Was there a short, stubby character with a claw in Double Dragon? I would bet my life a character like that existed, but I can't find any information about him anywhere! Lol
Basically, a game has to have a “somethingness” (usually related to a specific character or moment in game) about it that everyone who played it can point a finger at and say “this is the reason why I stopped playing” even if they didn’t really “stop playing” forever.
The movie from this game is quite known here in Brazil because it used to be broadcasted in a very popular daily TV show, in the afternoon. So many good memories seeing you guys playing this one

i played this game so much with my older brother in my childhood. I like when people discover this obscure gem
This game seems a lot better than the normal "the game based on the movie based on the game" type games
@Burger Pants STFU! That game is the worst game ever made
@Burger_pants Yea, the arcade one
The "Charge" system is really underrated. Works like any other super meter, but folding into the lifebar itself is just so elegant.
Works as a decent comeback mechanic too.
Similar to the Ultra combis in SFIV and SFV where the meter fills up as you take damage.
How does it work though? I feel like i can't wrap my head around it. Oh man I'm confused...
@@ogmog You get meter by hitting someone regardless if the move is blocked, how much meter you need to build is tied to your HP.
@@ogmog in the life bar, then they get a hit, some get meter builds, when their life bar is fully grey, they get super
Technically, it was made by Technōs Japan Corp. in association with Imperial Entertainment (the production company who made the Double Dragon film).
Also, DD wasn't "that NES game". It was originally an exceptionally popular arcade game that was then ported to like a dozen other systems.
@@yourswordsir2537 Yes. Horrible misinformation in this video. No research whatsoever.
These obscure fighting games are awesome lol. If you can, a tournament of breakers revenge would be freaking beautiful.
Breakers revenge 1 and 2 are supposed to get an official release this year with rollback. And rage of the dragons!
I dare say Double Dragon isn't obscure.
@@MentalDeviant wow, cool, i did not know it
@@jamesburchill7522 yeah fair, i said that, because normally when people talk about double dragon they are talking about the beat em up games
this is hardly obscure
That game was the most popular in my arcade when I was just a little kid, I think it has enormous depth.
Same here! I was surprised that the game wasn't so popular around the world
"The game was actually made by SNK."
This is false. The game was actually made by Technos Japan which was their first game for the Neo Geo hardware. Their name is even shown first thing in the intro.
Yup. The others were Super Dodge Ball and Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer.

@@carlosaugusto9821 this mentality honestly drives me up the wall. Breakers Revenge is wrongly called an SNK game all the time too
Also it's technically an Arc game now, since they bought the IP. They've been using it too.
Watching Abobo inflate into that monstrosity makes me think of the movie "Big Trouble in Little China" where the bad guy does something similar.
Thunder.
Don't sleep on this. This game is the best. This was next to the Jackie Chan fighting game at the vietnamese VHS rental spot in my hood.
A good game made a bad movie but that bad movie made a good game, full circle.
Not true when it comes to Street Fighter The Movie thou

My favorite game to play on Fightcade. This game was so ahead of its time. Shame it isn't that popular.
"Remember Double Dragon" IN THE ARCADE?
The NES version was an altered, unfaithful port of the Arcade game.
Also in the NES version of Double Dragon, Jimmy Lee is the Big Bad.
I used to play it when I was a child, it was one of my favorite cabin games! My character was the drunken master. 😊
Id love to see a pit fighter tourney just to see everyone be tormented. And no not the arcade one.
heh, they had this on a Navy Base back in the 90s. I've PLAYED this game (and saw the movie on ship). It's so wild seeing it again...
Loved this during the 90s arcade days.
That game, together with KOF 95 were my first games I bought for my NEO GEO CD, back in December 95. Ahhh, good times.
Would be cool to see Waku Waku 7 on one of your tourneys.
Great game. Marian is *very* different here than from the other DD games. In those she is a classic damsel in distress, here she is a badas more than capable of defending herself.

This game was surprisingly fun, but also jank lol GGs JM. It was fun playing against you.
This game was in the laundromat back in the 90s. Fond memories, especially of the announcer. Made laundry Saturdays a bit more bearable :).
Abobo getting absolutely disgusting while hulking out is pretty cool though.
