    Comment section is wild.
I can't really comment on India's economic climate, but I think its great that space access is getting easier. Its easy to talk of how money could be spent, but at the end of the day, having a space program creates lots of jobs in industries that would otherwise only exist in more wealthy countries. This significantly reduces brain drain, helps national pride and with space being so vital, not just for exploration or conquest, but for improving life on earth, I think India certainly benefits from this program. The rest of the world certainly does and will, for one thing, many wealthy countries seem to have forgotten how to land probes on the moon, while India is out there doing it and gathering valuable science.

People like to talk about how the money spent on space programs can be better spent on things like healthcare and poverty alleviation and whatnot.
As if the politicians will really entertain such ideas. Even if they cancel the space programs, the money will NEVER be directed to these causes. They'll direct the money to some other causes which will be more lucrative... for THEMSELVES. The reason there is poverty is not because of space programs, it is because the politicians doesn't give a fuck about you, and that won't change regardless of space program spending.

    Chandrayaan 1: crashed
After almost a year, the orbiter started experiencing several technical issues including failure of the star tracker and poor thermal shielding; Chandrayaan-1 stopped communicating at about 20:00 UTC on 28 August 2009, shortly after which the ISRO officially declared that the mission was over.
    Chandrayaan 2: crashed
Chandryaan-2's lander had crashed, or made a hard landing, on the Moon's surface because of its high velocity. However, its orbiter is 'functioning very well and this will communicate with Chandrayaan-3 lander,' as per ISRO.19 Aug 2023
Chandrayaan 3: succeeded in Bollywood studios due to technological limitations. Not confident to bring witness countries unlike China's Chang'e 6.
Made in India: no lunar samples
Made in China: 2 lunar samples, one of them from near side of the Moon and the other one from the far side of the Moon (Aitken basin)

GoI along DoS is first prioritising making small & critical things first & then jump onto the big things, we are still a developing country with a very low tax paying population, govt has to rationalize the funds optimally to fork out as much as possible. All those complaining why funding for ISRO is low, will cry foul if some subsidy or anything benefitting them gets taken away.
