- My Speed Queen electric dryer stopped heating.
I was looking for how to replace the heating element of a Speed Queen electric dryer that was not heating.
This video shows my troubleshooting and replacing of the heating element.
The model of this unit is ADEE8RGS173TW01. It is a residential version of the Commercial Heavy Duty dryer and is similar set up to the commercial unit.

I always make sure that power is disconnected before I open the appliance to check it out.
If my arms were six inches longer it would help lol
Thank you my brother in King Jesus.
the video is right on...except how did you reach the element to remove/install? my arm doesn't go that far bc the opening is constricted..?
Thanks for the video. Husband didn't have time to fix the dryer so your video helped me, the wife, fix the dryer by myself!
Nice - glad you got it fixed! He’s a lucky guy.
I need to know what to do about my Aliance dryer has a d5 & 4 error code
I want to let you know I really appreciate you posting this video. It was a lifesaver for me. Our dryer has been out for almost a week and even though it’s under warranty through Speed Queen we still have yet to receive a call from the repairman to come take a look! With your video I was able to get an element that I bought off Amazon replaced in just a few minutes. Thank you so much!
Great to hear - glad you got it fixed!
i take the dryer outside and use a leaf blower to clean the dryer out really makes a mess
Hi! I have a question if you're still available...Thanks
Have you made the repair yet?
Hi, nice repair, congrats! Do you happen to know if a heating element can go bad in a way that occasionally but not always causes a short? Ours sometimes trips the breaker (which is of course very concerning) but I would like to have some idea whether the heating element is actually the problem before I drop a hundred and fifty bucks on a new one.
It would probably be worth it to open the area up and inspect the heating element and wiring. You may be able to see a problem that is a causing the short.
Also, if you want to go ahead and replace it, you should be able to get the part for less than $50.
Thanks for posting this video! Do you have any thoughts on the Edgewater part you list vs. one on Amazon listed as a "Genuine Speed Queen Part"? The "OEM" part is ~$30 more expensive.
I really don’t know if there is a difference. But I can say that the Edgewater is still working fine after this replacement.
Is this a good dryer? Thinking of buying a used one.
Yes! This was the only issue ever had with it. Does a great job.
Thanks for the info, it will be an easier job than expected hopefully my local speed queen dear has one in stock.
Good luck - you will have it good as new!
Thank you!!!! This was very very helpful!!
Great - glad it helped!
What is the part number on this thing? I have the same dryer with the heating element gone out.
I used Edgewater Parts 61927 from Amzn. It is exact replacement.
Did you happen to measure the resistance of the good coil, 10ohms?
Good question, I did not measure the new coil though.
Is there any situation where it would be the thermal fuse not the coils or other parts of the panel you replaced? My dryer runs but doesn’t heat.
The coils are the issue most of the time and since they are easy to check with a meter, it is a good place to start.
@@ljschuby99 thanks. I just checked the thermal fuse. No continuity so I’ll start there. Hopefully it’s just that! Great video!
im tryn' to help my gf's parents with their machine..same looking dryer. They've been told the vents are wrong, but even with the heat on High, the clothing a. doesn't get very warm b. can run for two 70 minute cycles without being dry. IF the vent was the issue, i think we'd feel the heat escaping into the room. .but nothing is getting above luke warm.
Do you feel air coming out of the outside exhaust vent when the dryer is running? If not, the vent may be blocked.
Also, if the heating element is working properly, you should be able to see them turn red hot when the dryer is running.
@@ljschuby99 i will investigate , thank youuu
Amazing.
I should have watched this first. Oh well. Lol.
Hope you got it working again!
Thank you for making this video. I have the exact same dryer with the exact same problem. Do you mind sharing where you purchased the new heating element and the part number? Thanks!
How old is your dryer? Mine was completely covered with lint inside! Seems like a major fire hazard. Yours looks pristine inside compared to mine. Did you clean it out before you starting filming the video?
I got the part from Amazon - Edgewater Parts 61927. And, yes I did vac it out, but there was not a lot of lint in there, even from 3 years. So if you have a lot, you may want to check the dryer vent to make sure you are getting a good outflow.
I've had the SAME issue with mine. 5 heater coils in 3 years and Speed Queen always has excuses on why its not their dryer. Now its out of warranty and they've washed their hands of it. No more Speed Queen for me
@@keithposey8828 Wow. Maybe the aftermarket parts will last longer.
@@ljschuby99 I rigged it to run while I wait for the part....of course its backlogged like everything else in this country
