Got to correct Josh. @13:23 he said Jamaicans came to the UK as immigrants - no; they were BRITISH SUBJECTS! This is a common misconception that they were immigrants.
Jamaicans have ties to the original indigenous black people of Britain, they came to Jamaica during the colonial periods and mixed with enslaved Africans and Tainos. Black Irish men also came to Jamaica and intermixed.
Yes, I know the history. The point is we are talking about the 'Windrush' generation, who first came to the UK from Jamaica in the late 1940s. The UK tried to ILLEGALLY send them back to Jamaica even though they had rights of abode due to being BRITISH (they held British passports after all). Jamaica wasn't independent from the UK until 6th August 1962 - therefore all that came to the UK before that date (after being invited by the UK government to help rebuild the country after World War 2) were British. To try and force them back to Jamaica, the UK government & press tried to label them as illegal immigrants, which is incorrect.
I was hoping they'd go to Refils. I'm constantly considering the drive up from Brighton for some of their food! They've always got food left when its late and their peanut and Guinness punches are amazing too. I've heard their porridge is really good but you have to get there early apparently!
Empire Windrush was the name of the ship - HMT Empire Windrush arrived at the Port of Tilbury on 21 June 1948 and its passengers disembarked a day later. The ship carried 492 Caribbean migrants, many of them veterans of the Second World War. The ship and its passengers have a symbolic status as the start of the Windrush Generation. Windrush Generation denotes the people who emigrated from the Caribbean to Britain between the arrival of the HMT Empire Windrush on 21 June 1948 and the Immigration Act 1971, including the passengers on the first ship.

@@invisible4405 I’m going to share two absolute Gem with you. First one, If your into seafood there’s a secret spot only on Saturday’s at the back of the Barbers located on Atlantic road just a few doors away from Atlantic bakery. The whole set up, atmosphere & vibe will take you to Hellshire Beach Jamaica & this is even before you’ve tasted the food, everything from Fish soup to pepper prawns, Fried Fish with festival & plantain steamed fish true Jamaican style. I seriously recommend 👌🏾 (Remember only on Saturdays)👍🏾 Second is “New Tings Carribean take away” located on Acre Lane I’m not going to go into the menu as i’ll be here all day but I’ll just say when you enter the shop just the display alone will blow your mind the aesthetics is A⭐️, the variety is unbelievable. service is great & the food lives up to everything👌🏾

All the foods looks nice 👍 enjoy David. One love my friend
Its wonderful to explore n highlight the amazing variety of culinary delights available in Brixton.😊 Long may this continue. It is also good to recognise black people have a history n a presence the UK that goes way back, beyond the Windrush. Many people of African/Caribbean heritage were born in raised in the uk and are also British.
The Trinidad 🇹🇹 food looked amazing
Dave, make sure you drive through Birmingham. Plenty of Afro and Caribe culture and food de ya

Hi David you made it to the shores of the UK. I reached out to you back in Covid times. Hope you have a great UK visit. Don't forget to try the curry scene.

@@Davidsbeenhere yes I win almost every week... Thank YOU 🥳
I wish the guests would eat to haha instead sitting watching our boy David.
They did eat, I just have such limited time per episode I wasn't sure if the audience would want to see it. They definitely enjoyed it especially Producer Nate. LOL.
I would be in that area every single day. All the foods I've had and they are all delicious 😋
You gotta have deep pockets. Especially for food bought inside the regentrified market

Welcome to London David! Brixton is the epicentre and a true melting pot of different cultures. It feels as if you're still in Jamaica. Everything is here. I would have cooked for you if I knew you were coming.
Thank you Tearoze!
Missed Maureen's Brixton Kitchen...
So happy you've shown me the good spots in Brixton love me some Trini doubles and Gambian Jollof 💜 Jamaican spot looks 🔥 what is it called??
Yes the food was so good in Brixton. The Jamaican spot at the end is called Refill. It was really good and there are a few other spots nearby that are also incredible!
I need tk head of over to Pop Brixton asap!!!
Memories. Looking through the eyes of time from 1965. The majority of C'bbean immigrant residents were Jamaicans. Of course other islanders such as Bajans, Guyanese, Trinis, Lucians, Vincys...and from the African continent. I've got mostly great memories growing up.
Eddie Grant..And ELECTRIC AVENUE...🇭🇹🇹🇹🇭🇹🇬🇾🇯🇲

I've actually got some videos for around this area in Miami that you'll definitely love coming soon but as for Ft. Myers I've heard Irie I is quite good but I don't know much else in that area for Caribbean food. And its a pleasure, glad to have you all along for the journey!
@@Davidsbeenhere ok thanks. I will check it out ! At least now I know of the spots spots you covered in Miami.
Cool video. Brixton's great. But how many shots of the excellent Eat of Eden yet you didn't eat there..?! 😅

Happy bday!!! Im not in brixton today sadly! Wishing you a great celebration and hope you feel a bit better too!
Really wish I knew you coming to uk & its makes it worse than the first spot you touched was Brixton “I’m disappointed This one missed me” I’ve watched your Jamaica trips & I fully love what your doing & I respect the fact you gave the Crab circle another chance.
Big up to the young man who showed you around however there a good few hidden authentic food spots that would brought you right back to hellshire or kingston with the food & overall all vibe.
Which hidden places? I have to say i have not come across a super tasty pepper 🥵 beef patty like Atlantic bakers. U tried it?

I’m going to share two absolute Gem with you.
I seriously recommend 👌🏾
(Remember only on Saturdays)👍🏾
Second is “New Tings Carribean take away” located on Acre Lane I’m not going to go into the menu as i’ll be here all day but I’ll just say when you enter the shop just the display alone will blow your mind the aesthetics is A⭐️, the variety is unbelievable. service is great & the food lives up to everything👌🏾
Headed to UK in June... it was meant to be a longer trip, but it was delayed by COVID, and life changes. Had to cut the trip down from 3 weeks to just 10 days, but Brixton is on my must-see list.
Asafo is a restaurant in brixton you have to go to. Also check out the Whitechapel neighbourhood
