This song will truly never go out of style. She is literally a mastermind. The story, the allure, the chords, the uncertainty, the simplicity and aesthetic. It's brilliant.
This song is dramatically underrated. Every time I hear it, I imagine two people on either side of the door, with Gary leaning with his back against it in the pouring rain and Taylor doing the same inside a dimly lit house. Both absolutely heartbroken. She's trying to decide if she should open the door, because she so wants to, but knows she'll just be hurt again if she does. It's so sad that this song didn't get a music video, the visuals could have been amazing. Like all the songs on Red, The Last Time clearly paints an image and a story.
Although the original story is fine. Every time I hear this, I always imagine this song as more of a breakup song of two people who still in love with each other . . . but their lives are going in a different directions.

Yes but I hope you heard the one on the album because it had an incredible guitar solo that they removed from the live performance. Sad this is so underrated.

This whole album is the most underrated and under appreciated out of all 6. I think Taylor changed her style because this album didn't get any Grammy's; and that became her criteria of success. But this is the album that's most relatable, down-to-earth, pure emotion and enchantment and nostalgia and much more. This is the Taylor I love and hope to hear from again one day
Ok I feel like after All Too Well - this is literally the BEST song she has ever written. Like the emotion, the lyrics, and everything in this song - it’s just so real and intense, and really captures the feeling of heartbreak
@@prabirpal2134 she needs to make it a single. There are rumours going on that she is gonna release it soon. But there is no use if she releases it after the noms are out.
I love how Taylor shows how vulnerable and fragile her voice could be. The way her delicate voice portrays the feelings of hurt and still wanting to love, of giving someone the benefit of the doubt despite being exhausted from the repeated pain, it just hits differently. It's more than just loving someone or letting go. It's also loving yourself enough to know when enough is enough
This song is probably the BEST from Red, the emotion in this is unreal! None of her other songs have this level of duality - they sing the same words but you can see it from both side because of how they sing it, him pleading that he'd never break her again and her pleading that he never does, i love this video but i also kind of wish they'd filmed a story like video for it too? Just because you can already feel a story in the song but I guess the presence of this story in the song means they don't have to as well. So trippy, so great!
Her voice sounds so sharp and sweet on contrast to his, like vanilla ice cream. And his voice sounds rich and warm, like chocolate brownie. They meld together perfectly.Either that, or I'm just really hungry.
1:13 I love this part where you can almost see the difference in Gary and Taylor handling the situation that they're singing about in the song: Gary is overcome with emotions of anger and hurt, and Taylor is just calmly sad. Like she made up her mind and made the decision to give her lover one last chance to redeem himself. Both such amazing songwriters and performers
taylor is the daughter I never got to see. her parents should be so proud. I lost my little girl 2 week before she was born, my wife too. but Taylor....she's made it better for me. I love this young lady. she's awesome!
EvilRegal Swift1989 yeah when this album came out everyone was all over most of her poppy solos or the Ed Sheran duet but my favorites were this one, "All Too Well", and "Stay, Stay, Stay"
My favorites songs off her red album are - Holly ground, I knew you where trouble, The last time, red, 22, we are never ever getting back together, begin again, all to well, starlight.

I think it's a great reflection of their stance in their relationship from beginning of the song to the end of the song. At the end, he's really emotional and desperately begging. And at the end, she's over it and done.
After "you need to calm down" this "last time" really calmed me down Who cares whether it is underrated or underrecognised...this song touched my soul!!! Taylor knows how to play!!!
I've read many people call this song LONGER that it should be, REPETITIVE. But honestly this is a MASTERPIECE however you see. Ballad 100%, beautiful instrumental, Gary is such an unerrated yet brilliant musician, this must be a Taylor Swift classic
I love how much raw emotion Gary Lightbody puts into the song as well. I mean if you have heard any songs from Snow Patrol, which he is the lead singer of, you'd also see how pure his lyrics and voice are. I think Taylor and him should definitely do another song together!!
I still can't handle HOW underrated this song is... Like we all like all too well that's great but like... The Last Time is literally one of the saddest songs she has in the album. AND LET'S TAKE A MOMENT TO APPRECIATE THE SOLO INSTRUMENTAL LIKE GURRRLLL
I remembered hearing this song and it touched me on a level unexplainable. I was in love with this girl, sadly she does not reciprocate the same feelings. It took me 3 years just to let her go. Some songs just makes you remember things from the past...it's powerful.
Agreed! I love this song, but NO ONE knows it. The only person (other than me) I know that knows about this song is my best friend. I'm ashamed in humanity.
Very much agreed! Red was the last album I bought from her. While I've liked later songs, they didn't resonate with me like this album and previous ones.
@@HansonsPassion I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!! I didn't buy anymore albums after 1989 though. The songs didn't connect to me as much and songs were more readily available online.
I don't know how she does it. She writes magic. Yes, that is it. Underneath all the main-streaming upbeat songs you get a song like this, All too well, Enchanted, and Almost do.
Whts wrong with a guy hearing this song? Unless you say you're a guy that has never experience heartbreak before then seriously i worry for your love life.
For all the people who are in unrequited love: I know it feels like this is how you are going to be for the rest of your lives. But believe me it is a phase, and it will pass. And this phase is going to teach you so much if you just look for the signs. The mixed signals aren't much of a mixed signals, there are people who are going to love you so god damn much you wouldn't imagine, but you don't stop loving, allow yourself to feel bad and sad while you listen to this amazing song. but know that a better you is waiting for you few days, few weeks, or few months from now. xoxo
Actually...I was in unrequited love for past five years nd it felt as if it will go on forever but one day it won't and you will feel better than u ever were
How does her hair not get sweaty?? Is she from another world? You can see a drop of sweat down the side of her face but her bangs are impecable! I'm jealous, lol. You're perfect Taylor!
When I was young, I was addicted to the more pop-like, sing-along songs on Red like 22 and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. But as I continue growing and replay the album, I'm beginning to really appreciate the hidden gems that are highly underappreciated. (I'm looking at you Begin Again, Holy Ground, and I Almost Do) A few years ago, I would have skipped The Last Time on my playlist, but now it's definitely number 1 😍
Same. I was a swiftie when i was in elementary school, but mainly listened to speak now and fearless. I missed Red and 1989. Then i got obsessed with reputation in freshman year, and then stopped because i thought people would make fun of me. But i found her again after folklore, and i’m going back and filling those gaps. It’s like a return to my first musical loves.
This song has a special place in my heart. I was born and brought up in a Catholic family in Texas and my boyfriend was born and brought up in a strict Hindu family back in India. He moved to the states for college. We met in class and instantly fell for each other. The difference in our races created many obstacles for us. Even our parents stood between us because of the religious differences. But we stuck to it and fought all those battles together and today we are the happiest of couples.I hope we get to live with each other forever. ❤️🇺🇸🇮🇳❤️❤️❤️ ❤️
"Why is RED Taylor Swift's best album?" This is why. Swiftie since the beginning. I'm 30 now and I still crush on TS. I'd love to have my heart be broken and turned into a song

Gary lightbody is such an underrated singer
also true!
Gary Lightbody is the lead singer of Snow Patrol and Chasing Cars is THE most played song of the millennium
you must be kidding
Here in 2024... Look where these two artists are today ❤
I think All too well is better... My opinion
+felipe coronel I really don't care.
+Nadia Ali and yet you comment your opinion, what if i don't care?
+Bluey Pie My comment isn't in response to your comment thats the difference you stupid f**k
Nadia Ali bruh, no need to get feisty!
Her voice sounds so sharp and sweet on contrast to his, like vanilla ice cream. And his voice sounds rich and warm, like chocolate brownie. They meld together perfectly.Either that, or I'm just really hungry.
Aakriti Khosla ur funny
well said
Haha well said. Best comment here XD
Both 😂😂😂
U are funny and witty
Popular opinion; This song is so underrated and deserves more attention.
No-one appreciates how diverse the Red album was, it felt like an album of experimentation and it WORKED!

taylor is the daughter I never got to see. her parents should be so proud. I lost my little girl 2 week before she was born, my wife too. but Taylor....she's made it better for me. I love this young lady. she's awesome!
i feel sorry for you :(
Omg I am so so sorry for your loss :(
I don't know what to say, but wish you the best
Awwwwe.
I'm sorry for your loss
I hope gary will sing this song as well in the re record version. His voice is so warm.
hi I am from the future he is in fact singing on the rerecorded version
Definitely one of her best and most underrated songs in her career ❤️😁
The most under appreciated song that Taylor swift has ever written and one of my favorites!.
Sad Beautiful Tragic is the most under appreciated songs by Taylor hardly any view but such a magical song.
Donna easty ikr. I listen to it a lot more
Clean is also very underrated.
Back here after hearing her collaboration with Bon Iver with Exile.
Lyrics:
Find myself at your door
Just like all those times before
I'm not sure how I got there
All roads, they lead me here
I imagine you are home
In your room, all alone
And you open your eyes into mine
And everything feels better
And right before your eyes
I'm breaking
No past, no reasons why
Just you and me
This is the last time I'm asking you this
Put my name at the top of your list
This is the last time I'm asking you why
You break my heart in the blink of an eye, eye, eye
You find yourself at my door
Just like all those times before
You wear your best apology
But I was there to watch you leave
And all the times I let you in
Just for you to go again
Disappear when you come back
Everything is better
And right before your eyes
I'm aching
Run fast, nowhere to hide
Just you and me
This is the last time I'm asking you this
Put my name at the top of your list
This is the last time I'm asking you why
You break my heart in the blink of an eye, eye, eye
This is the last time you tell me I've got it wrong
This is the last time I say it's been you all along
This is the last time I let you in my door
This is the last time, I won't hurt you anymore
Oh-oh oh-oh oh-oh oh-oh
Oh-oh oh-oh oh-oh oh-oh
This is the last time I'm asking you this
Put my name at the top of your list
This is the last time I'm asking you why
You break my heart in the blink of an eye
This is the last time I'm asking you this

Taylor swift was the best thing that happened to music
To the world
So true
Facts. Facts & facts 🙌🏽
To the universe
@@christaacree9759 accurate 👌🏽❤️
Unfortunately this song means a lot to me right now
Taylor really knows how to put feelings into words and melodies, damn!
cool
unfortunately?
Christine Jung hahaha yes, cause it's a sad feeling. Unfortunately I feel that way.
Ok ok feel better then!
Juliane Lemes
so underrated. this track always gets me in my heart
Love them both! Gary is so passionate in his singing while Taylor is just so effortless. I just noticed before the 1st chorus. I love them both!
Gary very intensity singer
Who's here after the masterpiece that is EXILE?
Gary &Taylor are putting different energies into the singing.
well said!
All the while complemting each other so well.
3:13 this is why i so much more love Gary than Taylor
@@marcob4630 Yeah!
I think it's a great reflection of their stance in their relationship from beginning of the song to the end of the song. At the end, he's really emotional and desperately begging. And at the end, she's over it and done.
After "you need to calm down" this "last time" really calmed me down
Who cares whether it is underrated or underrecognised...this song touched my soul!!! Taylor knows how to play!!!
I've read many people call this song LONGER that it should be, REPETITIVE. But honestly this is a MASTERPIECE however you see. Ballad 100%, beautiful instrumental, Gary is such an unerrated yet brilliant musician, this must be a Taylor Swift classic
this song is so underrated.
hannah pia nnnnnnnj j j Jr
YAZ :(( ITS SO BEAUTIFUL GOSHHH
+Hanna : real ART is often underrated, unforunately
marco brenni I agree. Just like her All to well song in the RED album. 😭
+ Gwen: TRUE !
I love how much raw emotion Gary Lightbody puts into the song as well. I mean if you have heard any songs from Snow Patrol, which he is the lead singer of, you'd also see how pure his lyrics and voice are. I think Taylor and him should definitely do another song together!!
Still so pissed this wasn't released as a single.
It was, in the UK
It was in America....
Wait it was not a single in America...When did this happen??
In November of 2013
Around the 20th
I still can't handle HOW underrated this song is... Like we all like all too well that's great but like... The Last Time is literally one of the saddest songs she has in the album. AND LET'S TAKE A MOMENT TO APPRECIATE THE SOLO INSTRUMENTAL LIKE GURRRLLL
Gary's voice....SnowPatrol proud fan here :)
I am 61 and am seeing Gary and Snow Patrol on May 3rd here in Toronto. ♥♥
Taylor is so much better than I gave her credit for.
😊
I remembered hearing this song and it touched me on a level unexplainable. I was in love with this girl, sadly she does not reciprocate the same feelings. It took me 3 years just to let her go. Some songs just makes you remember things from the past...it's powerful.
Let get it 50 million views
and some relationships are just to toxic to keep on having
i hope when she rerecords this one she gets gary lightbody to come back and sing his part. their voices are so beautiful together.
this song is too underrated but its rly beautiful
+moonlit night DAN!

This is one of the most underrated Taylor Swift song
+Zenevi Romawii : Agreed , and I even dont know why !
+Zenevi Romawii i know!!! i cant believe i just heard this song!
+Zenevi Romawii I agree! but it's so amazing!
yess exactly😢
Agreed! I love this song, but NO ONE knows it. The only person (other than me) I know that knows about this song is my best friend. I'm ashamed in humanity.
This sing in my opinion is one of her most underrated songs ever
This is my most favorite Album of Taylor (RED) anyone with me?
Only behind Reputation, 1989, Speak Now and Lover for me, still a 10/10
Alie Mandi yes
SAAAAME.
🖐️
SAME
Everyone will always remember......RED deserved a Grammy.
Edit: THANK YOU FOR 5K!!, JUST FOR THE MERE FACT I STATED.
and 1989 didn't.... damn
@@TianCrash Preach!!
YES
I don't know how she does it. She writes magic. Yes, that is it. Underneath all the main-streaming upbeat songs you get a song like this, All too well, Enchanted, and Almost do.
You're perfectly right: Taylor is not only a talented singer but also a genius songwriter !
I will always love Taylor Swift a bit more just for doing a duo with Gary Lightbody. He is one exceptional human.
im kinda glad that this song is underated cuz if was overated then theyd over play it on the radio 24/7 and wed get sick of it
Anthony (THE BROW) Davis how do you know though?? hmm
tbh this is his sister he never uses his account and I was on his computer
nicholas marges yep... sure lmfao
Whts wrong with a guy hearing this song? Unless you say you're a guy that has never experience heartbreak before then seriously i worry for your love life.
Amber and DeeDee
She sings with so much passion, and love for the music, it's breath taking just like her x
*"Then right before your eyes, I'm breaking."*
Quite possibly THE ABSOLUTE BEST duet I have ever witnessed between two talented and dynamic singers.
For all the people who are in unrequited love: I know it feels like this is how you are going to be for the rest of your lives. But believe me it is a phase, and it will pass. And this phase is going to teach you so much if you just look for the signs. The mixed signals aren't much of a mixed signals, there are people who are going to love you so god damn much you wouldn't imagine, but you don't stop loving, allow yourself to feel bad and sad while you listen to this amazing song. but know that a better you is waiting for you few days, few weeks, or few months from now. xoxo
That' s why I love this song because I can relate to it.
Actually...I was in unrequited love for past five years nd it felt as if it will go on forever but one day it won't and you will feel better than u ever were
thank you so much
Who wants another collaboration of this two amazing person..!! ♥️♥️♥️
Yes please! More Gary lightbody pleaaaaase!
❤️ Snow Patrol
Me!!! they sound really good together
Shifa Sheikh *people
How does her hair not get sweaty?? Is she from another world? You can see a drop of sweat down the side of her face but her bangs are impecable! I'm jealous, lol. You're perfect Taylor!
I love how when they switch up the harmonies it spotlights the narrative of their different perspectives in the song.
almost 2020 and this song is better than any other. this song is perfect
One of her best no doubt!
u must wish it was 2019 again ❣️
@Sam 4th Ngl, I love this song more than exile-

2023 and i’m still here
It's just a beautiful song... " you break my heart in the blink of an eye "... exactly
When I was young, I was addicted to the more pop-like, sing-along songs on Red like 22 and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.
But as I continue growing and replay the album, I'm beginning to really appreciate the hidden gems that are highly underappreciated. (I'm looking at you Begin Again, Holy Ground, and I Almost Do)
A few years ago, I would have skipped The Last Time on my playlist, but now it's definitely number 1 😍
@@devikamittal8798 For me the best albums are speak now and red. Fearless it a bit too unmature for me.
I am happy for you 😊 stay blessed
Rooting for you. India's older generation is a bit... Complex. I hope his parents see reason. ❤️
That's so cute. My boyfriend would always choose them over me.
Wishing you all the love and happiness together ❤️
I WISH YOU GUYS DO
A compliment: She's a voice that brings this broken heart
peace.
"Why is RED Taylor Swift's best album?"
This is why.
Swiftie since the beginning. I'm 30 now and I still crush on TS. I'd love to have my heart be broken and turned into a song
anima099 Write one! You don’t need an instrument to write lyrics.
She was robbed from the Grammy, red is her best album to date
Best album the songs you can't skip. Too good all the way through
this is one of my favorite songs of hers and i feel like it’s such an underappreciated one.
Very underrated. Two people saying the same thing but bearing different meanings.
You need more awards, seriously
Gary owns this song completely
Don't forget who wrote this song.
but why is it RED album..:
Actually Gary co-write with Taylor but is definitely Taylor's song
You can see how much more it means to Gary though, that's what I mean
MichaelDavino
you can't possibly say that unless you spoke to both of them face to face!
I still come back here everyday 😭 their voices are GOLD
Is it just me or does Gary look like he is really trying to get those notes and Taylor is just like, this is so relaxing.
I know I weird :P
+LNA klose The notes are really high for a male voice. And yet Gary is hitting notes higher than Taylor in a few sections of the song.
+LNA klose To me I think it goes with the song because the guy is pleading while the girl is trying to be gently say no, because she's had enough.
It seems like he's really connected to the song and she's more connected with the audience.
Idk why people don’t like Taylor, she is literally one of the last female singers who is not made up of plastic.... I love her
You know singing is about the voice? Not about looking plastic? you kids..
LastOrangeman but she have a good voice
@@Philet196 She might not be the best singer out there, but she is a damn good performer. Very charismatic and her stage presence is huge. The whole Reputation tour is a proof of that.
Ash Ketchum Yea, honestly Taylor is no powerhouse singer. But her voice is simple and nice to listen to, AND she's a damn good performer. She knows how to command her audience's attention. 🤗
@@star12341998 her voice *is* a powerhouse, just listen carefully. Especially when she's singing live. *goosebumps* *everywhere*
Gary's like being all deep and into singing with his soul, and Taylor's like "woohoo look at me jiggle~~" lol. so funny.
TOTAL Swiftie here, but I have to agree with you, come on Taylor, stop batting your eyelashes and shaking your butt! We all know you have a beautiful voice, sing with it!
I'm with you on this one. What a difference between the two. Gotta love the simplicity and deepness of Gary's way of singing and being
Just love gary in this .. Taylor complements gary so well
One of the most underrated songs of all time. #LoverOfCountryMusic #Swift13BiggestFan
Amosun Adeola That's because that Gary Lightbody is a nobody, LOL.
Thats funny....and Taylor Swift?
Kelvin Hiew snow patrol aren't big in Korea so Gary Lightbody is a nobody? Ignorant
Really look up run live at oxegen 2009. Fuck Taylor swift.
+Kelvin Hiew Did u srsly call Gary Lightbody a nobody? Get a life and listen to pop music instead of being a mainstream son of a... wait, going a little too far here lol... He is the lead singer of Snow Patrol, who are pretty famous. Lightbody has done gigs w/ Ed Sheeran, etc...
