The white picot gauge is one I made myself using embroidery card holders, the brown one is from Clover. - if you have a look on my channel there is a whole video on picots, gauges and how to use them! 😊

Hi, being a complete beginner, please would you confirm that we always tat in a clockwise position? Also how to tell when you pick up your work after an absence if you've got your stitches in the correct orientation 🤔🤔😃 thank you sooooo much for taking the time to show us all these techniques 😊😊

Hi Nat, I'm not sure how to answer this without confusing you ( and me!) lol... If you look at The Veronica pattern as a whole, you will see some rows are clockwise, and some are anti clockwise - this depends on what is in the next row and how it is meant to join up with the previous row.
The work that you are joining to should sit to the left of your current element (the one that is being joined) - so while the element that is being made will go in a clockwise direction, joining it could be either clockwise or anti clockwise.
Again, looking at The Veronica, row 1 is clockwise, row 2 and 3 are anti clockwise. Row 4 is clockwise, but row 5 is anti clockwise!
I always leave my work at the end of an element - so I make sure I complete the ring or chain.
Your project should sit on your left hand (assuming you are right handed); look at your pattern to see where you are up to and what comes next. If it is a ring, your shuttle thread need to be on top. If it is a chain, then your ball thread (or 2nd shuttle thread) needs to be on top.
      I hope that helps you.🙂
