I literally went OMG!! When I saw you put this video up. I just bought yarn for this blanket last weekend. I have been trying to find a good pattern I could print and a tutorial is just a bonus! Thanks!
Ba-lows me away how you are able to make sense of written patterns and charts! Thanks so much for sharing your amazing skills and talents of teaching!!!
I love that this is a Moss Stitch plaid - gorgeous! I'm seeing, in my head, a variation on how to begin the foundation chain... using the chainless foundation single crochet for each chain needed switching/starting a new ball for each section. That will give a solid base to begin, and have the colors available for row one. 😋
I am just finishing up my second mad for plaid blanket. Luckily, I bought a bunch of the Bernat Toasty yarn before it was discontinued, and have enough to made a few more! I love this pattern!
@@narjisabbas3439 My suggestion is to Abandon all those balls and get different complimentary 'self-striping' yarns instead.....1 color for the vertical filet base and the contrasting color for the vertical 'surface overlay'. You will still need a lot of yarn because it's a blanket. But you won't have to keep track of all those balls - or deal with a gazillion ends....
Thank you so much! I've been looking at this pattern since December trying to make sense of it. I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do with the yarn in between color changes. Having several smaller balls of each color of yarn makes so much sense but I didn't comprehend that note in the pattern. 🤦♀️ Now I can finally make my blanket! I'm using Bernat Velvet yarn. It'll be cozy!
Ooh I love this so much! I need to hurry up and finish my other projects so I’m no longer grounded from buying more yarn 😂. Maybe I can make these for Christmas 2021. This is one of those patterns that’ll nag me to death until I make one.
I'm guessing this is a yarn eater? Looks lovely and once the overlay has been threaded through it should be warm. That overlay almost looks like you're doing a single crochet through those chain spaces. Thanks Mikey.
Still popular aftrr two yrs old! I also have never seen anyone use boucule yarn before. Nice to see it in action. Surprisingly i like it but is it soft? I generally associate it as rough rug yarn.
It's very soft but it depends on the choice used. If there is primarily nylon in the product, as it's usually in rugs or mats, then yes, you can associated to carpet grade feel. Yarn generally lacks the nylon quantity that carpet would required.
This is really nice. But I hate the sewing in & doing my own colors makes it hard to find the blending colors. So I use doubled yarn, with separate balls for each horizontal and vertical color change. More yarn management but no weaving in and no surface overlay, and you can use any color combination because they blend themselves.
I lover this pattern Mickey and the way you explain it!!! But for me it's impossible to get that yarn. I live in Spain, Europe. Could you tell us a good substitute for it, please? TIA. Happy New Year!!!
The finished blanket looks nice in the post photo. However, you made the 'surface overlay' section of this plaid project much too hard by using a crochet hook. A simple technique is to use a darning needle with multiple strands of yarn - which will also automatically create the fringe... Also, using the 'boucle' yarn made the tutorial difficult to watch (even with your disclaimers)... For simplicity, when I do my tartan plaid project I'll use a smooth yarn to double crochet (not SC) with a larger hook to create the 'filet base fabric'. Then I'll use multiple strands of boucle yarn with a darning needle to 'weave' the contrasting lines through the filet openings. This will be much easier and faster for me to complete the project. I'll also use self-striping yarns to avoid the hassle of multiple balls and multiple ends. I did like your suggestion of putting each cake/ball in it's own separate bowl.... I also liked that you time stamped each section...

That yarn is cool, I don't think I have ever seen it. I will have to look for it. I love how it looks like an old wool blanket.

Thank you for making this!!!! I had such a hard time reading the pattern and now I'm flying through it!
Just ordered my yarn for this blanket. Have been eyeing this pattern for a while. Thank you Mikey for doing the tutorial !
Started the project a problem with tangling of 10 balls. Any suggestion how to manage them?

Thank you. You explained things great.
thank you for this video! I've been drooling over starting this since I saw the first photo!
Wow! Love this! Thank you!
Ty Mikey ❤ you are such a patient teacher
Omg this is cool but I'd say you must be a pro to do this! I'd get tired of the color changes all the time! But I'm a fairly new crocheter.
This looks incredible! Thank you!
I like how you think. Just keep it moving.

Love the tutorial! Is there a yarn ball winder that you recommend?
I love it!
I'm going to attempt this because it's supposed to reflect a scottish tartan
It's a great pattern. Just be patient with yourself.
This looks like a lot of work...but it is really nice! Maybe as a gift for next year.....!

we dont have this yarn in ottawa
I can’t find the bernat toasty anymore. I absolutely loved making this last year. Anyone have any ideas for a substitute yarn?
Trying ot think if Boucle is coming back this year. I'm not sure. I think the yarn may be discontinued.
I have some extra balls of beige, a greenish blue, and browns. Will be glad to set you up with some if you want!
Where do I get a yarn ball wonder like yours?
Some of the large craft stores sell them usually only available from their website. I believe Amazon has them too
@@rkng1 thank you. Found one.
