I like to think this is actually how Soma fights. He's just DBZing his way through literally everything at a million miles an hour.
Yeah when he gains full control of his powers that's how I thought this would be.
I like how, right after getting double jump, the TAS starts using the kicker skeleton movement tech--and then immediately gets a fleaman soul, for which the description is "hops around madly". (around 7:06)
I like the part where the walls become more of a quiet suggestion.
Commentator: A lot of these souls seem useless
Guy: Yeah, blah blah this one soul does so and so
Game: “Waiter Skeleton”- Slings hot curry at it’s foes
Well, my childhood just got irredeemably mangled.
And it was glorious.
I dont blame the commentator too much. Itd be hard to start explaining something and by the time youre finished the tas is already several segments further along.
Yeah, I feel like the commentator really did about the best he could. There's so much happening so quickly to someone that's actually familiar with the game that there's just no way he could cram in everything fast enough for someone unfamiliar to understand.
Yes but they could highlight the main poitns anymore.
"And this boss is now dead" Don't mean much when we neglect the fact "This is an endgame boss"

Thank You GamesDoneQuick for providing us entertainment, very helpful.
Some people come for the speedruns, I come for the WORLD CLASS COMMENTARY
Yeah got further in and now understand the critisisms with the commentary, even as someone who's played through Aria and watched a few speed runs some terminology was hard to follow.
I'm coming from this as someone who has 100% Aria of Sorrow myself and just played the game in general multiple times.
Being more familiar with the game really makes this TAS run SHINE. The RNG manipulation is disgustingly good. Getting souls in 1 kill, the perfect jumps both normal and glitch, the abuse of character placement and Guard points... It was a fascinating watch, and very fun to watch as the game is inhumanly dismantled on a fundamental level. Very cool.
Amazing tas of one of my all time fav games
I’m am really REALLY enjoying all these speed runs. My life is not going how I want it too( not gonna elaborate, everybody got probs) but seeing my childhood games get broken, and game mechanics being completely abused, tasbots, the donations, all the feels for games well all love is what I need.
Thank u gdq. And the gamers that pour all this time into games.
"That's not normal" I played this game and all of this is perfectly normal.
Maybe Dracula dying at the Battle of 1999 was all part of his plan. Maybe he knew how DBZ his successor is going to be...
The commentary was... Not very good. I wish they explained more about the zips or the rng manip, because Aria is a really cool example of it. They didn't even explain stuff like how balore was a late-game boss, the fact that they were at lvl 2 means nothing to someone who's never seen the game.
In their defense, this shit was stupid fast and pretty chaotic
I agree but keep in mind commentary is really hard. Speaking from experience in melee tournaments
it's a TASBot run. can't really explain shit. go watch a human runner.
I actually prefer the way VB commentates. Not so much showing off. Very sympathetic.
in his defense, he speedruns the game that very day, and explains MANY of the concepts. Not sure if its before or after, but ya, its in agdq 2019.
Actually, now that I think about it, he probably did the explanations BEFORE the tasbot, iirc the way he explained it before, but i could be wrong.
20+ hours of casual play shortened to less than 20 minutes.
They don't even explain why the weapon at 6:10 is so important
Princess Grouchy they do, just way later in the run because it was so fast they didn’t notice
8:08 It takes them a while.
@@liamwhite3522Only 20% of the run later to mention how important that is
I mean, everything was explained in the previous, human AoS run.
I thought that was fair enough as well. GDQ people probably were thinking, hey, everyone saw this 2 hours ago. Welp, not the internet.
Will Be 100% true.
This is a great TAS, but I feel like the commentators really could have done a better job. Aria of Sorrow isn't exactly the most well known game out there, but the main commentator kept talking like everyone in the audience knew a lot about the game, when not even the others on the couch seemed to know anything about it.
I thought it really odd that one of the dudes on the couch had no idea what was going on in the game as far as basic understanding of the game goes.( even wondering what the skeleton arm was. Like seriously bud?) Did the dude just not know how TAS works?
@@maxsayo DwangoAC is the keeper of TASBot, the guy who always presents the TASblock at gdq's. He didn't know Aria of Sorrow in particular, and he alluded to not knowing Castlevania in general.
@@maxsayo Really odd, he's been on every TAS block on GDQ yet knows nothing about how TAS works. smh my head
@@CottidaeSEA
To be fair you're only one person, and the game isn't even explained in normal gamer talk, e.g. "hey we just beat the final boss" or "we just skipped 20 minutes of backtracking in 5 seconds" or something.
In my own experience the only castlevania game I know of/to some depth is Symphony of the Night thanks to a few runners I watch on youtube.
It's a TAS run. How are they supposed to commentate to that point? Between that and possible donations.. that was just fine for what it was.
Castlevania with ultra instinct.
Dude can't say Muramasa right for his life
"Muramoosa"
Don't get me started on Cliamh Solais
Its Clee-av Sul-ash
this is epic
soma embraces his destiny
6:55 No. Fair. I was eating. 😂
TASBOT 2020.
Make playthroughs fast again!
"claim sole-eye-us" not even close but I understand, Gaelic ain't common. For the record, it's more like "clee-ehv suh-lesh"
"Get ready on time-and time."
Like how the tas bot has more people there than any other run.
Can tasbot file my taxes?
Please me too
It only takes him about 2 minutes!
You really don't want that...
Will the IRS understand glitch abuse and memory corruption?
Free free free.
Not a single comment about the guy knee drumming at the beginning?
Number 1!
what properties does tabot have that he could survive with 1hp? did the hitbox change based on what they've programmed it or thru a glitch?
Was there damage taken by Soma at any point?
Edit: Specifically, during the 1 HP survival?
Edit 2: Yep. There was.
That's the effect of the armour called Blocking Mail. It has a 25% chance to parry attacks.
With this being a TAS, the TASer freely manipulated RNGs and made sure it parries hits 100% of the time.
Wait, so that flash passing across the screen in Underground Reservoir is an enemy? This is the first time i've ever heard of this, what the fuck.
I want to see some Order of Ecclesia play one year
AGDA 2020: Robots play everything while the humans party and drink. SPOILER ALERT: While they sleep the robots go on a rampage and overtake the convention center
Duango is a badass, but TAS could have had better commentating
A note on the commentary: Commentary takes practice, practice, practice so I hope this was a learning experience for the commentators who kinda floundered to keep up with what was happening since it seems like for as knowledgeable as they were about the game, they simply couldn't coordinate with one another to keep up with what was happening.
This is why Blechy is such a beloved commentator because he's concise and extremely quick on his feet because in addition to learning the games inside and out, he's also practiced at commentating enough to be able to adapt on the fly when he's unable to finish an explanation before a new skip/glitch/etc occurs that requires him to drop a line of thought in favor of another.
I've never played the game so the commentary really didn't help there. The TAS is already hard to follow, but there was very few explaining. Usually in TAS commentary they give you some things to focus on even if you don't know the game, here I was simply lost ^^'
DWANGO!
silly me. i'll never be able to do this ;w;
cool run btw, one day i'll donate to GDQ.
5:56 how did he 1 hit the iron golem? Because I'm about to be upset that it's possible...
Oh 12:30, using killer mantle bullet soul, the iron golem has low mp. pfft. yeah, I'm upset haha.
good golly!
does anyone know what emulator was used
Pretty sure it was BizHawk. If you go to TASVideos and look up the run, it'll tell you.
I guess Soma got the soul of Melee Fox somewhere in there.
Geeze this game is gonna need a drink and therapy after that.
The map layout is extremely similar to SOTN, I wish they mixed it up to make it new and unfamiliar.
to be fair, it is LITERALLY the same place
Also this game came out only 6 years after SotN
This was my favorite from the TAS block, I played that game a lot, so this is very amazing to watch. Very impressive, too bad the commentary sucks.
why isnt black panther used
holy shatski
"Sorry for using an emulator"
As if every single person in that room has never/doesn't use an emulator. They're more common than people like to believe.
It's more that having a TAS work on hardware is way more impressive
This is the first TASbot game that they DIDN'T run on actual hardware in the history of GDQ. That's why the apology. Every other TAS in TASbot blocks has other been a PC game (and thus Hourglass or libtas), or on real console hardware with TASbot hooked up to the controller port(s).
This bot doing some manips
People over here complaining that the commentator did a poor job on an ultra fast tas.
He explained the whole run in his 50 minute segment during the same GDQ. Maybe watch both?
Nothing makes me feel so obsolete as watching TASbot doing his thing.
My brain hurts
AoS is exactly like Symphony then?
Same level, enemies, bosses
Also i liked the commentator he just was kinda nervous and i can understand
shit GDQ already began? WHY THE BELL FAIL ME?
3:17 hi son!
Yis.
Edit: C H R O N O M A G E
Edit 3:skyfish
I thought these Castlevania games were about vampire slayers, not ninjas!
They should have let Fleaman's soul explain it. But then again, who's the one hopping around madly here?
18:18 IGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
IGA、許させません。
Wait... who is playing?
My favourite IGAVania.
Why does he always get the souls on the first kill?
RNG manipulation.
Basically stuff like this and some games actually isn't random. At least not in the way it should be. So by performing certain actions in the game. You can directly control drops and enemy patterns.
I thought they did ok commentary wise and I haven't played the game
Don't think those dudes like each other.
skyfish
The commentary guy really didn’t do much there...
Great TAS run poor commentary.
can someone explain what the fuck is going on, how a bot is able to do that?
Psh, walls are more of a suggestion, really.
I have no idea what anyone is talking about. The commentary was fine.
Holy shit how can the game keep up with the guy playing
Awesome game
Awesome run
Bad commentary
lul
Is TASBOT AI? Ive never heard of this thing
Nah, just pre-recorded input basically.
Tas collecting 120 souls, using multiple glitches and using/changing many souls/weapons to compete the game in 17 minutes. And people think commentary is bad for failing at making it clear? Rofl
People really talkin shit about commentator lol? Did you actually SEE what was happening on screen? He did pretty damn good all things considered, hell, I'm surprised everyone in the audience didn't just collapse from seizures do to all the screen jittering and flashing imagery lol.
Also, shoutout to Commander Keen in that audience, I SAW YOU!
Keen speed run next year!? (crosses fingers
Hey dwango ac, in ur next video, look up world record spyro year of the dragon tas by Jeremy Thompson, please.
Lmao wtf is going on :D
*complains about commentary because everybody else is*
Commentary (and lack their of for a really short run) was whack
I like near the beginning of the run, the announcer is like "What just happened there?" With the creeping skull arm. Ok. First off. I never botherd to use or even have seen that move before, but since we all literally just got done seeing that exact same arm on the skeleton, you would figure that's what it is. I enjoy the commentary, always enjoy the runs a gdq. However I don't really like unaware or ham reaction announcers. Like no duh that's a weapon.
God, they all look sooooooo greasy
>Main criticism being they don't explain much
Maybe because *they literally already ran Aria prior to the TAS Block.* I'd look there for actually explaining Aria than a TAS.
This was the most boring TASbot yet. mari0 was nice, but after the previous TASbot blocks continually stepping things up (ACE, Twitch Plays TASbot, Maker All-Stars, 3-TAS video chat), this is one hell of a letdown.
Using a fabricated bot to do a speed run. Sketchy
Why play castlevania when you can just watch it.🤔
But jokes aside I'm kinda upset that the crowd didn't react to the comment about the person's mother surviving cancer but clapped at just the speedrunner name being announced a bunch of heartless people no respect.
TAS in GDQ seems... artificial. For me, it is a insult to the people with great gaming skills that are able to do a lot of pixel/time perfect tricks.
TAS'ing is also a skill, it takes many many hours of research to create a TAS like this.
Usually TASbot block has cooler stuff somewhere, like Twitch Plays TASbot on Brain Age, or Super Mario Maker All-Stars. This block was a bit of a bust.
Most boring TAS ever
