Never heard of PWM compression. Wish he’d explained that a bit more.
As far as i know the audio gets chopped up at a high frequency, like he said. It's done with a square wave. By changing the "on" vs "off" time of the square wave you can change the amplitude of the signal that's being chopped up.
the crane song stc-8 also uses pwm in the detection circuit
I'm going to have no choice but to own one.

Or you can build your own for around $600. But please, flex your economic muscle and buy a unit to sound just like everyone else.
