kudos to you for doing this on your own. The problem you had with your stain is that you are supposed to put the wood stain on then wipe it off. It's not like paint where you just put it on and let it dry.

Brianna i thnk you should put the big mirror that is next to the desk in you closet and add a another shelf like the one thats in front of the mirror and put inside your makeup instead of putting them on the floor and on top of the desk put a small like a getting ready mirror you what I mean and you don’t have to set on the floor just set on the chair and watch your self on the mirror i hope you like my opinion 💞❤️❤️ (i love you 😘 biggest fan /mezna\)

With wood stain you are supposed to put it on then wipe it off so it’s not so dark when you wipe it off it leaves a stain. Hence the word wood stain.
when you stain wood you are supposed to do light coats, unlike you would with paint. Then, you sand and distress the wood. LMAO thats why its so dark
You sad before hand, otherwise it get rough again. But you’re right, especially the paint brushes killed me... you gotta use a cloth
