- For many artists, painting skin is one of their BIGGEST challenges! And after SO MANY requests... I'm giving you my secrets!
Whether you're drawing pretty girls on instagram or buff superheroes, we've all got skin, so sooner or later artists will need to learn how they can best draw and render skin. In this tutorial I demonstrate how to render and shade skin in photoshop BUT this technique works on ALL digital art programs. It even works for traditional artists! (just with a few extra steps)
I walk you through shading skin and how to handle the values of skin in this video. The NEXT video is all about the many ways you can color skin (link below).

I have SUCH a problem with overblending in the most unattractive way. I grasp how to shade, it's just actually applying it that is holding me back lol. I have a big problem with thinking harsh lines = less desirable/less realistic so I soften everything up and it ends up looking very /muddy/ so to speak
seeing someone successfully use the technique with such ease actually helped a lot, thank you a ton for making this video. Sometimes all we need is a visual to push us along
Tfw you apply everything this guy says and it still looks like shit. It's so relatable.
Time to get skin deep into the details
okay, chef. We'll do the thing 🤣
I love you dude. JUST DO THE THING
wth i learnt so much from your videos thanks man
Underrated AF thx for the tutorial
Your tutorials are helping me a LOT, I'm so grateful bro. A big thank you from Brazil
Happy to hear that! Thank you!
I’m literally crying… my drawings not perfect but it’s all starting work together… thank you for the lesson

i love your style, tysm
Oh thank you! That's very kind :) I'm glad to help!
This feels more like a "how to shade anything" tutorial, but that includes skin, so thanks :D
Thank you, it was so helpful. I am glad that there are videos like this on black and white focusing on value, I really needed that
That’s a true secret of drawing tips what I’m looking for. You’re the best teacher I founded. Thank you so much!
*boss music* anatomy tutorial.
But in all seriousness, this video was really helpful in simplifying something that I just sorta winged and succeeded with. I understand skin shading a lot better now. Thanks!
Love that you use League music.
i will treasure this
I can't believe this is free 🥺🥺🥺✨✨✨ Thank you for this!!!
this is genuinely so helpful, ive never found a guide like this before?? everyone else is usually absurdly vague about what theyre describing so this is a breath of fresh air. i understood everything and i feel learnt up!
did I just find someone who makes best tutorials?! i watched your fire one.. i need it for the project now. thank you!
we need more skin vids!
Excellent work man! Keep it up!
*i wish I had this tutorial before*
I tend to simplify since.. Ye I dont do that much anatomy musculature so my shading and lighting are very simple-
But watching this... *might give me a different idea*
Simplifying things are a great way to lean into different styles (but it would be good to practice anatomy, obviously) so don't worry about all that. And thank you, I'm very glad to hear the tutorial was helpful!
Very help so much, best tutorial i ever see
Hope you make tutorial cloud
Insanely helpful
I love how much fun you have with this tutorial! This is also really helpful, thank you so much!
Thanks a lot sir. I was really afraid to shade skin. But after watching this. I think I have to try once more ❤️🔥
Just trust in the soft brush, blend them as smooth as you can, then shrink the brush to cut the detail lines for folds and muscle 😁 you got this!
thank you so much ! i’m practicing anatomy rn so the came just in time !
Insanely helpful, thank you so much! Do you work for riot games btw? xD
Great video man!
Can you show us how to paint that in colors over grayscale? or have you already done one and I missed it(?)
That's next :) no worries
I love your humor lol
I recently subbed because I really like how you explain, would it be possible to make a video on anatomy? If you have one already I haven't found it. :D
now i can make my characters look hot lol thanks
YESSS FINALLYYY
Me: *should I watch this..?*
Me: I should.
I think I hear the background music of TFT and Summoner's Rift xD
i love you
This mans just woke me up from a weird over-blended softshading nightmare.
Good morning!
Finally I can shade Ricardo in all of his glory
Btw, question: do you review art?
🔥🔥🔥🔥🤯
Comin’ to this video super late, BUT I have a question. What brushes would you recommend as Procreate equivalents for the two you use in PS?
The airbrush section should have everything you need for smooth skin. Just find the hardest edge and softest edge brushes and you should be set
@@Gammatrap oh sick, thanks so much! Appreciate the quick reply 💙
Will you be covering hair ? 😫
Please keep going you are the best 💚👽
But you are Sus ...... Amoongos ඞ !!!
Howa bout the secret to actually focusing, i can't. I draw something and its decent and I like the idea but then I loose interest in the subject and start over
Oh that's actually an easier "secret" Don't worry about focusing AND don't set yourself up to NEED to focus. Don't start big projects or stories, or comics or stuff like that. Give yourself permission to just draw what you want for a bit. Put on some music or audiobook or something to let your mind wander and just day-dream while you draw. If you're having fun with a game and want to draw a character for fun, do that. If you're watching a show or a content creator and want to try drawing them, do that. It's fine to just follow the random ideas. And if they don't go very far, oh well :) move to the next.
@@Gammatrap Incredible advice GammaTrap! Thank you, I’ve never met an artist who explains things in a way that just clicks.
Keep up the incredible work, and thank you again!
