13 years ago, I was standing on the tarmac of this runway. At the time all the signs and lines were still visible. I worked on this runway for 3 years, gradually seeing its destruction and the construction of the new cruise terminal.
@@BritishAvgeek To be honest, I was young, and didn't have much sympathy for old things. But now I'm getting close to 40, and I just feel really sad everyday, see the old Hong Kong gradually fading away, not just what you can see, but you can feel it. It's different now, the Hong Kong we used to know is gone, and I don't know where it's going from here.
Just a day old and such a superb tutorial - many thanks. I have a RTX3090 card being installed into my new flight sim PC and can't wait to give Kai Tak a go too
One of my favourite airlines into one of my favourite cities! I find the default scenery leaves a lot to be desired as it's autogenerated with a few landmarks; it's missing some of the most iconic towers on the island and Kowloon skylines; essential to a Kai Tak approach or departure. I tried this approach back in FSX with a VC10 nonstop from Heathrow; less seriously as I forgot flights overflying the Soviet Union were banned and such a route would have gone via Bahrain and India, I ended up with a fuel emergency...
@@BritishAvgeek I'm a sucker for the quad tail jet so I'd be giddy over a VC10 or IL-62 in the sim. I can only imagine how great the blinding teal cockpit of the latter would look, and how it would be completely illegible!
Can you tell me flight plan you used? I tried world plan and also simbrief. Both failed for that last turn. But i try adding those freqs maybe it helps 👍
Sure did! I've used it last for JFK to LHR on a live stream which was great but the Salty Simulations project seems to have just stopped which is a shame.
@@derstein98 they did indeed - but it still misses a form of reliable Direct To which I mentioned to them about 2-3 months ago so I'm a little disappointed. It's good to finally see some more progress and a new update though
@@BritishAvgeek yeah, okay... Never tried this mod.... I just focussed on your last mention "that they stopped developong". Hope theyll get other updates in future
@@derstein98 I'm sure they will - they've told me the Direct To will come in 0.4 and sooner in a Dev update... When that comes I'll take another look at the 747-8
A superb video, please let me know if the final turn from the checker board was a manual one or did the aircraft automatically turn and align itself with the runway. Awaiting your inputs. Thanks
@@skadvani yep - and the 747 is pretty rubbish in MSFS but you have to also remember, the bigger the aircraft the greater the inertia too so have to factor that in too
I tried it yesterday for the first time in the A32NX, and noticed I was around 2000' at OM, but charts say around 1700', even though instruments said I was bang on G/S. Comments?

are you sad to see it gone? 🙂

Oh nice you're going to love the graphics then!
Very, very good. Great tutorial, no hysteria, really helpful. Thank you.

😂 sounds fantastic though!! Wouldn't mind trying it in MSFS in a classic!
@@BritishAvgeek absolutely! A classic 747, VC10, 707, or DC8 is in order for the sim I hope!
@@LaurenV2500 I'd do anything for a highly detailed 747-400 tbh - not sure which of the ones you've listed I'd like to have first if I had to choose!

well thats a new aircraft

It was all manual for the turn and landing so I switched the Autopilot off before I reached the chequerboard

How do I know if I need to be fully configured already at G/S intercept, or if it's ok to wait say til 1000/500' AGL?
Brilliant - loved it !@
It seems CH (112.3) is only DME now, and no longer VOR.

is it possible to autoland at VHHX ?
No, that's why they stress that you must have visual of both the lead in lights and checkerboard well before minimums.
You should enter landing speed as Vref+5 on MCP
tyft sir but second
Great video, but may I ask why you say 'infamous' when you mean famous ?
In the sense that it had a reputation of being a tricky and dangerous approach
