I'm sorry that I'm 5 years late, but this is not a great monologue. It's great technique (arguably Laban with your voice, or maybe some Meisner). Yes, a monologue is there to see the actors range (In auditions), but it's also there to look at have an actor interpret the text. Here we see a short story told, but with no real explanation at all, who he is, his motive and his inner goal. One could arguably say that it is one character, while I'm not convinced that it's the same character all the way through. I do not say that he is a bad actor, just that it is not really a good monologue for auditioning. It's almost like the Kuleshov effect, you say something and gives the audience the power of what to believe is happening. The best monologue is different from person to person, it's about; Relation, empathy, conflict and if you can find a monologue that speaks to you, also you NEED the passion for the text: You should want to speak your monologue and not just a thing you have to do. That's just my believe :D
I totally agree. But, you see... it's so hard, when you do an audition... the director (or his assistant, or the girlfriend of the assistant, or the girlfriend nephew, or someone else you don't know what the fuck of job he or she does)... anyway... it happens that they don't even know what they want from you. Long hair, short, young, old... so... three words are enough: sometimes. But... if you want to see my skills... just do search Giovanni Guidelli. Something will come out. ;-)
