So glad someone is addressing this topic! I’ve had people that made me feel so stupid for not getting a KJV Bible right off the bat coming back to church. They criticized my different translations and made me feel less than. I’m a huge advocate to yes always read KJV but refer to other translations! KJV is hard and I’ve seen it where those same people who hated on me and my translations completely misinterpret the KJV and take it way out of context because they’re too prideful to use another translation. Thank you for normalizing this!
I like the NASB. It sticks pretty close to how the KJV translates words. (Also sometimes I look at the New Jewish Publication Tanakh because they do well to pull out certain key images at some points.)
This is a very important conversation in pentecost. I am a HUGE advocate for other versions. I'm a big ESV guy (it's my primary bible) and I still have the Holy Ghost, I still believe in Holiness and separation, and I'm still a One God believer 😂
There is an organization named King James Bible Research Council. They have many resources that are of value to understand why this “debate” of only KJV is important. Today language is changing because of this the KJV needs to be revised. The problem is that the KJV is not copyrighted, the other versions are. Therefore, there is a push by their publishers to sell those instead of the KJV.
Also, I am a big fan of linguistics, and the way the Hebrew gets interpretted (I think) has a lot to do with how grammar gets encoded into the words via vowels or word/root functions, right? However the ancient scripts had no vowel markings if I understand right, so Jewish scholars added the vowels in later times (hence the debate of the YHWH pronunciation). I guess I'm just floundering to express that I wish I could read ancient Hebrew sometimes because I don't have the grammatical knowledge.
I prefer the KJV or Holy Bible, which is what the book was called before it was labeled the KJV. The problem with other translations are the contradictions within themselves and the contradictions they have with the KJV. For example, when Jesus cursed the fig tree & it withered. The other books will contradict this and other areas as well
