The Simpson did a spoof about the audience laughter from Fox. It was a Townhall meeting with a mayoral debate and Larry King was the moderator. I don't get why Jefferson said, "This is my joke," then opens the door and we see Peggy. Does that mean he called her and told her about this?

In the episode, Peggy called ahead of time to say she was coming and to warn Al about his "next bride," hence the answering machine problem.
