You also have to make sure you have good content in your granola bar. If it's got a great wrapper and people buy it (view) and then it's not very good then they won't search for other varieties of that same brand. Packaging only goes so far, the product inside must be good (engaging). I'm really hungry for a granola bar right now.
Using a supermarket as a metaphor is a superlative way to communicate with your audience, because everyone can relate to shopping. Great job communicating, Tim.
Having been subscribed to this channel when it had like 40k subs, I can say the tips Tim shares are great. I am at almost 10k subs now and it took me two years. I couldn't upload often in the last six months due to my job. But here's some advice to all the aspiring creators: 1. Do not compare your channel with other channels even if it has very similar content, no difference in quality and even the upload frequency is the same. RUclips's algorithm many times will miss your content and it will make you think you are doing something wrong while that is not the case. 2. Don't focus on making everything perfect. Focus on upload schedule and don't spend too many hours on your videos initially. It is ok if Tim shared 10 tips and you only do 6 or 7 at first. Actually, that is how you should go. Otherwise, you will end up spending hours on tags, titles, video editing, etc. An acceptable content is ok to upload rather than the best content. Once you get the pace and how to manage your time and video schedule, you'll learn to do a few things much faster. FOCUS ON PROGRESS THAN PERFECTION 3. Stay away from analytics if you are just starting. Don't keep looking at views, subs, etc. Most of the time, you'll upload a video and then would wait for the analytics and to figure out what is going wrong. Instead, make an upload schedule and as soon as you finish one video, take a little break and start working on the other. Once the video is uploaded and scheduled, then just leave it. It is now RUclips's algorithm and video's job to perform. If things go well, then good. If not, you wouldn't notice and worry as you are already on your second one. May you all achieve what you dream. :)
I posted my first video and it got 30k views in the first week for no reason, my second video wont get past 10 views and its even better 😂 RUclips literally makes no sense
I started this and one other channel in the last two months after having my first channel for three years (because YTubers have to have more than 1 channel lol). I was curious to see how these channels would perform using everything I had learned on my first channel. What I’ve found is by using a searchable, relevant title, ranking keywords in my tags, a thorough description, and decent video quality (not pro level), RUclips is promoting these videos and my channels are growing more quickly than my first channel grew (because I didn’t understand the fundamentals back then). If you implement the fundamentals, I believe YT will promote even your first video.
I agree! You should learn the fundamentals of YT, I started months ago and never got more than a handful of views. Then I promoted myself (shamefully), started using Tags and descriptions. And I am noticing I get noticed SLIGHTLY more. Slowly but surely.
@@beerusjeebus9876 That's just fine. It's how I learned as well. I walk back through videos which aren't doing well and do another analysis. RUclips doesn't recommend doing this because it'll "confuse" the bots and serve your content less. That's what they say...but I've only found that it helps. And hey, if it's a dud, what's the harm? (I don't do this to videos doing better, feels more dangerous....except a better thumbnail. I have no fears left trusting to newer better techniques.) Example. Thinking of a great keywords I didn't think of when I made the video and adding them. Sometimes it makes no difference, but sometimes, once in maybe 10? Maybe less, it'll take a dud and make it one of my top ten videos and be a great earner (well, relatively, my channel is still very small!) Also. I'm a lot better at making thumbnails now and sometimes an update really helps. Lastly, Tim suggests a human title rather than great keywords in the title. I know, it fights the old SEO (search engine optimizer) in me, but it ACTUALLY works. Take my port and air flow theory series. Everyone watching seemed to hear what they wanted to hear and they commented below. I was saying something which was actually controversial which the community disagreed with, but NO ONE was hearing my message based on real research and real results. So, I made my title something like port and don't polish. Wow! I did get a lot of thumbs down, but that part of the series went from dead to alive. The thumbs down vibe only happened the first month. After that, it just kept getting served up to audiences more (most call it porting and polishing so when I said don't polish it sparked attention). Over time, it still had the same average of thumbs up to down as other videos, but I reached thousands more of people than what it would have. :)
Thank you Tim, you have a way to make things very understandable. Now I need to try to figure out how to get more traction. I have over 1700 videos, but aside from my 2,000 or so serious fans out of 389,000, I don't seem to be able to grab youtube's interest.
I’ve been growing on YT for under a year and have about 2400 subscribers...and while ALL this is true what Tim talks about here, we also need to remember that human psychology is at play and when you have a GREAT video but no one knows about you and so that video only has 100 views, many people will skip over that content assuming it’s not that good based on vanity numbers (unless for instance it’s answering a specific Q they are searching for). So while create titles, thumbs, and retention ARE necessary, so is searchable content, and SELF-PROMOTION. Don’t wait for YT to bring you views, go out and get them. Engage in other channels, engage in FB groups, share to your other social platforms, do collaborations, swap shout outs, etc. This will get the initial traction and allow you to start snowballing.
That’s such great news and it’s really nice to hear. I totally understand what you mean how sometimes it seems like a video surfaces out of nowhere but you’re still overjoyed regardless of how it surfaced to your audience.

Tim, this has got to be one of your best videos yet! 😍💕 I'll admit, I only turned this on for background noise... I already knew most of this info from watching some of your previous videos. *HOWEVER!!* You presented the information in such an entertaining way that I *COULDN'T* help but to watch. Loved it! P.S. Your wife is a saint! 😆💕✨
Oh my gosh, you guys are great! All this is so true! I'm a beginner, but I've really tried to make all these points clear in my videos. (I'm sure I could be doing better, but for right now, I'm seeing slow and steady growth and that is enough for me). As I keep getting better, I think the analytics will show that.
I have been in RUclips since 2010. Since then hundreds of video's have been published on my channel. A few went viral, but most get very low views. My content is original and decent, however the demographics of algorythm have drastically changed. Kids playing video games, and vlogging has become the standard in the current times. My video's have remained unique in Production. Maybe some day, my channel will rise above the struggle.
Very well Said as Always the thing is No one knows you or cares about you or your videos mine included .It's getting the balance to find a topic that get's searched a lot that you're passionate about that you can rank for and then you have to make a catchy title and thumbnail in order to win the click and the content has to be entertaining or keep the attention of a stranger for long enough that youtube will recommend it and once you manage to do that you have to keep doing it on the same topic often That's my humble opinion I haven't managed to do it yet But ( i do have 3 videos that youtube started recommending a lot it took around 4 months to gain traction so be patient ) take care wish Everyone the best
I'm new and growing. I've been comparing going on a diet with building my youtube channel! Provide good value (food) and don't give up. Like a diet, time will tell if you stick with it. I did like your grocery store example a lot and it made perfect sense to me. Sometimes, I feel (like my diet) that I'm not getting anywhere but continue to provide content waiting to see the scales go UP with youtube and down with my weight!
I’d say there’s no way anyone can get that many subscribers that fast with only two videos. I don’t care how interesting you might be able to make “van life” seem, that’s not feasible. Either all her subscribers are fake, or she was a celebrity before RUclips. If she was a celebrity before RUclips, then that’s perfectly fine - but still one should note that it is _not_ reasonable or even possible for just anyone to get over a million subscribers in a year or less using only two random videos.
Jonathan Boyd subject, originality, As well as timing! I also used my art skills to the best of my ability. At the time no one made detailed paper puppets so that helped too!
Tim can you make a video on RUclips removing views !! I don't get this thing ... Like in my last video I had almost around 266 views and suddenly youtube decreased it to half .. now again it's increasing .. !! So worried !!
Marcos gaming hey I think this happens cause RUclips estimates your projected views based on its momentum at the time. I’ve had that happen quite a bit on new videos that start off doing well. I think it’s chipping off views that aren’t “true” views. Etc.
I'll add it to my list of video ideas. Thanks for the suggestion! To answer your question, though, it has nothing to do with RUclips guessing how many views you might get. RUclips often goes back and audits views across the platform and removes views from bots. It happens to everyone. You're just paying closer attention than most.
*impressions are more like the product is displayed on the shelve in front of you. doesn't mean you stopped and saw it. Most content no matter how crazy you think it is, has an audience. It's just a combinations of factors: algorithm picks you randomly, an interest in your topic no matter if small or big, people interacting with that video, consistency in uploading, content and even length. IMO is more complicated than this. but what do I know? right. awesome videos. Thanks*
I love this analogy! I tend to forget that RUclips is not only a social media platform, but one where you get people to "buy" your content, and having them to come back for more. At the end of the day, it's not always about the packaging of the product (thumbnail and title) but what's inside that can (your content)
Never thought about it this way. Groceries? Brilliant! Very nice video! To all small youtubers just keep learning along the way and get valuable tips like these and eventually you'll be successful! Cheers to everyone!
Such clear and insightful info!! The message was also exactly NOT what I was hoping to hear about why our little You Tube channel is not growing as quickly as I'd like. Thank you for not candy coating it, I guess.
Tim you illustrated this so well that I didn’t even realize I use this type of strategy in my current sales job. 🤷🏽♂️ Definitely it’s all about branding, as creators we are our own brand! Great video!
My main problem is a major lack of time.. I have to spend hours trying to sale hundreds of items for survival. Disability barely pays the rent. I have changed the intro for my videos once I get a chance to work on the next ones
I have an 11 an 12 percent CTR on a couple of my videos and those are the ones YT is not giving impressions on- one has a copywright claim on it- maybe that's why or maybe because I only have a few videos up- 9 to be exact. Anyone have any idea?
Brand Clarity is something that I am currently working on. Shifting gears and refocusing my content. On another note that is a very fancy Aldis. I havent been to one of those in awhile.
Great analogy Tim! YT really only, pushes my ,evergreen (car repair) stuff. The videos are getting views , just not really getting subscribers out of the them, though. Thanks for posting great content, Tim!
It amazes me, that people even ask that question. Or, people who make videos and think people are just going to magically find them. The bottom line it all comes down to the actions YOU take as a creator. Thanks for making this nice simple video, I sure it will help a lot of people.
I love the explanation using the grocery store. I have almost four months since I started my channel and only a few minutes watch and 17 subscribers. I’m learning on how to post quality videos. Thank you for the advice.
Thank you for your great insight. The metaphor with the grocery store was enlightening. And nice to see how similar the company operates in the U.S. as it does here in Europe. Greetings from Germany Tanja
You describe this in such a great way, such a cool way to use a grocery store. I have 35+ videos right now and it is so cool to watch this video and understand it from this point of view.
YES!! This is what so many creators need to hear! The goal should never be to get the algorithm to notice you. The goal should be getting your audience to discover you. The algorithm will notice the people's behavior long before it really starts to notice your videos.
What's up Schmoy! Great visual analogies with the Aldo grocery store. Sometimes on my videos, where we have tons of trolls, I'll post subjects that I know the trolls will leave lots of comments, and thus I gain traction with free engagement, courtesy of the trolls. Sometimes I'll say something in the video that I know will trigger the trolls to start leaving comments. When God gives you lemons, make lemonade.
TWO Observations! 1. Tim definitely went through Financial Peace University, he is at Aldi! Love it!!!! 2. In a weird way, he made me feel like a tomato haha!! Awesome video Tim, thank you!
I grow fastest when I sub my videos in English and Korean but subtitling takes so much time! Can't wait for the day I earn enough to pay someone to do that for me!
WOW Tim, just when I thought I understood everything about this topic, you go and give another analogy that makes me rethink everything. This was an amazing explanation of how to get people to understand their purpose and value to their audience. Loved it!
I clicked on this video just because your content is normally really good, but this one is Awesome, Love the analogies 👍😂 I’ve been testing different aspects with my fast growing audience and everything you said was on point. We never stop learning tho. Thank you for the shopping experience at ALDi 👍
Really great way of explaining it and very well said! Just remembered what I learnt in economics today, RUclips is kind of like a business. The three questions they have to ask are: 1. What content should I make? 2. For whom is this content for? 3. How do I produce it?

Please make a video about how to protect yourself from random scammers. One of them just sent us a strike and RUclips removed 4 of our videos without any reason, also she recorded 10+ min. hate speech about us, calling us pirate, etc. Clearly, RUclips does not care, because it wants us to send a message to that lady. Would she remove it? Cmon. I appreciate any video or guidance about this topic.
I am a pierogie! I’m delicious and easy to make but not enough people have tried it! I’d also like to know why youtube doesn’t fully stop recommending some videos? They drop after time and settle in a range that seems to ride that number for years after
This is an OUTSTANDING way to help us all understand better how this all works!!! I LOVED this video Tim and all the objects you used make your point! Love Love Love this! Thanks. I think whenever I hear someone ask about this very thing I'll share this video with them. AWESOME!
Sir, can you point me in the direction of a talk you’ve given. I’ve got about 250 videos and 33,000 subscribers. Had a couple videos with over 1 million views - but recently I’ve discovered that i’m spinning my wheels by constantly trying to upload content five or six times a week instead of tweaking and paying attention to videos I have already done, making sure it has a great title cards and end, updating meta-tags. Here is my question - does RUclips have a category for stagnant videos that no matter what I do it will not get attention - or is it really all up to me to get stagnant videos re-noticed?
Yeah, great click through rate and watch time will really get RUclips to promote your videos to other people, UNLESS you are on the "borderline content" blacklist, in which case, even videos that would have received hundreds of thousands of views, will only get a trickle because RUclips will NOT give you ANY "suggested video" traffic. This has happened to three channels I manage, and it is very depressing!
Great video idea Tim! I just keep chugging along tweaking things here and there. Don't do RUclips if you think you'll be lucky and have a video go viral because it could never happen. Just make adjustments and give value and all will work out.
I literally enjoyed the view during the grocery shopping! 🛒 I believe it'll gain more engagement because of that.. But of course I didn't neglect your advice. Thank you! 😉
I loved this video! Shopping with your wife at the grocery store. I've been thinking about doing something similar , but teaching Spanish. Greetings amigo 😀😀😀
Well, if you don't like granola bars, then the analogy works even better because you're going to skip right by those bars, but yes, substitute any food item for any other food item you want to use here. :)
Thanks, very helpful, and a great analogy. Im terrible at checking my analytics(like never),as i just focus on making improvements on each video. Also thumbnails are really important for that click through rate,so hopefully mine are more eye catching now. I do TrailCam and Woodland activities in the WildWoods, recording the wildlife and doing projects to improve the habitat for animals, birds and plants. I didnt actually know that you can see your impressions in analytics,i will definently check that out. Your channel name also got my attention,so im Subscribed and look forward to more content. Best wishes
I love this Tim! Love the great analogies of the grocery store (and the granola bars made me smile). And what a treat (no pun intended) to finally get to see and hear from your wife :) Thank you for serving people like me!
Hi Tim! I love the look and feel of your videos on the go...can you help me out and let me know what gimbal and cam you’re using and if you’re using extra lighting as you’re walking around and what kind of mic you’re using? It all seems pretty portable and yet your shots look so nice....Maybe you’ve done a video on this already....Can you point me to it?
Admittedly I do not post a lot or in any consistent fashion, but my impressions show that the traffic sources are 0.7% from suggested videos and 1.2% Browse Feature. RUclips barely shows anything I do to anyone at all. More than 90% of my views come from Search and Subscribers, 5% from External Sources, and 3.1% from Notifications.
I run a business channel, growing 100+ daily right now and the impressions are high and view rate is high! I’m also under 1000 subs so this definitely works!
You also have to make sure you have good content in your granola bar. If it's got a great wrapper and people buy it (view) and then it's not very good then they won't search for other varieties of that same brand. Packaging only goes so far, the product inside must be good (engaging). I'm really hungry for a granola bar right now.
That’s exactly right! Thanks for making the metaphor work!

I am watching all your videos in a raw.. You have got answers for all my youtube questions :)
Wait they have Aldi in the States?
Great video! Oh, and I LOVE Aldi 🤘
I'd say the recent case of Jennelle Eliana disrupts any assertion
That you need a certain number of videos for RUclips promotion.
Amaracea Exactly. I read somewhere that “Big Brother” is pushing the van lifestyle on Millennials. There may be some truth to it.
It took me 10 vids before before I had a viralvideo. How long did it take for you before you saw traction?? Great video Tim!
STICKYArt Channel wow that did go viral! Congrats!
what do you think made that video so popular timing or subject or both ? or no clue ?
Jonathan Boyd subject, originality, As well as timing! I also used my art skills to the best of my ability. At the time no one made detailed paper puppets so that helped too!
Dave Rucci my videos were in the low hundreds and then the pennywisevideo took off probly a month after posting! :)
@@DaveRucci let's support each other and grow
This is the perfect analogy!
Thanks!
Etc.
I don’t get that either
@@DaveRucci I have also had this with views and subs
I'll add it to my list of video ideas. Thanks for the suggestion! To answer your question, though, it has nothing to do with RUclips guessing how many views you might get. RUclips often goes back and audits views across the platform and removes views from bots. It happens to everyone. You're just paying closer attention than most.
FireRat Gaming oh yea don’t get me started on subs! Lolol
Great way of explaining! Thanks for sharing
Very helpful and great explanation.
Thank you so much.
Love from Malaysia 🇲🇾
*impressions are more like the product is displayed on the shelve in front of you. doesn't mean you stopped and saw it. Most content no matter how crazy you think it is, has an audience. It's just a combinations of factors: algorithm picks you randomly, an interest in your topic no matter if small or big, people interacting with that video, consistency in uploading, content and even length. IMO is more complicated than this. but what do I know? right. awesome videos. Thanks*
love how the way you give as an example in the store.
we just dont have to give up
I love this analogy!
This was a great video mate. The idea for the location and your wife co-starring really added to it overall!
Tim you illustrated this so well that I didn’t even realize I use this type of strategy in my current sales job. 🤷🏽♂️
Definitely it’s all about branding, as creators we are our own brand!
Great video!

My main problem is a major lack of time.. I have to spend hours trying to sale hundreds of items for survival. Disability barely pays the rent. I have changed the intro for my videos once I get a chance to work on the next ones
Thank you for all the helpful tips!! The analogies *chefs kiss*
This analogy of grocery store is so clear and helpful! Thanks for making this amazing content👍
These were some great analogies! No eye rolling here... Good stuff and a great way of putting things into perspective.
Good! I was afraid it would come off as too corny, so glad to hear it's helpful!
It amazes me, that people even ask that question. Or, people who make videos and think people are just going to magically find them. The bottom line it all comes down to the actions YOU take as a creator. Thanks for making this nice simple video, I sure it will help a lot of people.
that is only 2 videos Videos Before RUclips Notices You. Jennelle Eliana
has only 2 videos and over a million subscribers in 3 weeks
Excellent, great way of describing how RUclips works 👍
The grocery store comparison was PERFECT!! Got it!! Thanks for all the great info!

Video Creators what do you use for all your cool graphics and effects?
You describe this in such a great way, such a cool way to use a grocery store. I have 35+ videos right now and it is so cool to watch this video and understand it from this point of view.
YES!! This is what so many creators need to hear! The goal should never be to get the algorithm to notice you. The goal should be getting your audience to discover you. The algorithm will notice the people's behavior long before it really starts to notice your videos.
Wow!!!! I love the way you described this! It just makes sense now👏👏
What's up Schmoy!

Thanks for the video!
I like how you explain things with how people do their grocery shopping.. Well explained thanks
I love the supermarket analogy. Impressions and views make sense now.
Plus looks like it not just my wife you loves the offers magazines.
Using the grocery store for your YT analogy is amazing - and super helpful. Definitely didn't roll my eyes lol. Thanks!
As an English teacher I have to say you’re great at explaining things!
I grow fastest when I sub my videos in English and Korean but subtitling takes so much time! Can't wait for the day I earn enough to pay someone to do that for me!
Tim's out here hustling even when he's picking up groceries
💯
WOW Tim, just when I thought I understood everything about this topic, you go and give another analogy that makes me rethink everything. This was an amazing explanation of how to get people to understand their purpose and value to their audience. Loved it!
I clicked on this video just because your content is normally really good, but this one is Awesome, Love the analogies 👍😂 I’ve been testing different aspects with my fast growing audience and everything you said was on point. We never stop learning tho. Thank you for the shopping experience at ALDi 👍
That’s really helpful. And I love the storytelling!
Sweet video Tim! Loved how you show that it even comes back in a super market.
How beautifully you are communicating your thoughts using metaphor.. Amazing video... Love from India... ❤❤❤
Oh wow you’re actually relating it to the grocery store! Wasn’t expecting that. That’s awesome
This the best Aldo sponsor I’ve seen 😂 but nice use of incorporating a story and analogy into the advice! That granola graphic was hilarious
Not sponsored! Just happened to work out that way. haha

Really great way of explaining it and very well said!
Just remembered what I learnt in economics today,
RUclips is kind of like a business.
The three questions they have to ask are:
AWESOME!
I learned a lot from this video, this will help me in my journey as a small youtuber. thanks

Thanks for the video Tim and shoutout from a fellow Aldi shopper!!👍
Good luck to everyone trying to make it on RUclips💕
Please what video editor do you use?
I literally enjoyed the view during the grocery shopping! 🛒 I believe it'll gain more engagement because of that.. But of course I didn't neglect your advice. Thank you! 😉
I was just thinking about this . I'm 5 videos in. But I wont stop. I love making videos 😁😁😁😁😁
wish you all the Best
Nice to see you kept going, I want to achieve that
I loved this video! Shopping with your wife at the grocery store. I've been thinking about doing something similar , but teaching Spanish. Greetings amigo 😀😀😀
Good evening fam wow I like your RUclips channel it's very intriguing keep up the good work
I love how you used the supermarket as a metaphor. I don't really like granola bars, can I be a cookie instead? Very well explained!
Well, if you don't like granola bars, then the analogy works even better because you're going to skip right by those bars, but yes, substitute any food item for any other food item you want to use here. :)
OMG, the crying granola bar. 😂😂😂 This was actually a really good metaphor, thank you.
Thanks! I laughed when I saw what my editor did with that part. She did a great job!
