This is not a serious take on naval history, but more a shitpost thereof. Please take everything I say with a grain of salt.
I'm sorry, Elmo Zumwalt.
The game is Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts: store.steampow...
In Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts you play as the head of a navy doing what the head of navies do best - spend entirely too much money on holes in the water, or, in laymans terms, ships. You can design very stupid things. I do this.
Music from Epidemic Sound - www.epidemicso...
Tex: People going to be mad that I'm refitting the Habsburg.
The People: (Stood outside the window in their sickos shirt) Yes... Ha Ha Ha... YES!
I won't be happy until some 16y/o is down there stoking a 1.21 jiggawatt reactor and deciding between plasma or atomic shells

A French admiral, circa WW2: "I see you are a man of culture as well."
It might have been a better ship with a bigger caliber gun. but then it wouldn't be a destroyer.
Light cruiser, that's a Battle Cruiser.
Ah, the historical snow job path. "Oh yeah Parliament we're just putting forth a budget to build 12 Frigates, smol botes on the cheap, very fiscally responsible..." *The Frigates in Question*

My infant daughter likes the sound of Tex's voice. So let the insanity put her to sleep.
She'll grow up moving cargo
Guess this grown ass man and your infant daughter have something in common XD
Throat damage and heavy naval gunnery. The perfect lullaby.
My son used to fall asleep to tex talking battletech. We have had to stop before he properly started talking about the “god damned blackwatch”.
Tex is one of the few things i can play relatively loud in my house with no complaints. Especially his 'mad bastard' laugh
The Battle of the Irish Sea, Nov. 1939, is a portent of doom to the doctrine of gunslinger battleships.
The age of the Big Gun Bote is not yet over, but when a large formation of technologically-advanced yet low-tonnage ships sink a BB at range with virtually no casualties...
Yeah, I have a feeling guided missile armaments will develop a lot earlier in this timeline.
Also, Carinthia must be immortalized as the Austro-Hungarian equivalent to the Enterprise.
Tex, you need to make a Skedaddle Class destroyer, 50kn, nothing but torps (maybe 4 inch guns for self defence). it runs in, dumps torps and runs away
A Torpenscutunboaten, perhaps?
Those would just be oversized PT boats with that speed.
@@braith117 I would accept “elfut class”
"If you are fighting something bigger than you, armor wont save you, speed will." *Remembers that his new destroyers only go 30 knots* "Or outranging them with Torpedos"
The lesson of the Carinthia - it doesn't matter if your entire deck is below the waterline as long as your guns are above it.
Surely, if the History channel was doing a documentory about this time period, it would be discussing the Help given to Austro-hungary by the Ancient Aliens...
Y'know you're not wrong......oh how the mighty have fallen.
"Austria-Hungary was on the edge of collapse, barely able to retain what territory they already had, let alone expand. With no colonies abroad and a military lagging behind its neighbors, it was all but certain to be picked apart by the Great Powers of Europe. Then, in a flash, this sick man turned healthy again. They waged war as if it was going out of style, winning battle after battle and bringing powers far mightier to table every time. And at the center of it all is one Admiral Tex. This man, called the Reaver and the Madman of the Mediterranean, has links to every successful naval operation the Austro-Hungarian navy performed in this era. Was he simply a brilliant mind, perfectly in tune with the changing times? Or, as newly-discovered evidence suggests, was he something more... than human?"

CA Carinthia: " Call an ambulance - *BUT NOT FOR ME* "
HMS Minotaur: "Right chaps, that about does it, let's get back on blockade duty."
Corinthia, limping along at 12 knots with a 15° list and half her deck turned into a swimming pool: "I DIDN'T HEAR NO BELL!"
I think people forget those massive arrowhead ships in Star Wars were actually termed destroyers (Imperial, Victory, Venator, Super, etc), so you know, Tex's are actually pretty small by comparison.
Star Wars nerd here, so feel free to ignore me, but Star Destroyers are their own distinct type of capital ship vessel and additionally there actually are destroyer class vessels in the Star Wars setting and those are more in keeping with what one would expect an escort class vessel to be - that being small, fast, with a fairly light armament usually.
at this rate tex will turn the atlantic and pacific ocean into his personal bathtub to test his newest and oldest ships in a show-off contest against the us navy.
he might take jamaika and kuba as beachheads for the fleet operation first just because of their rum.

ultimate admiral dreadnoughts historical mode is wild. Have a campaign going and around 1910 the germans decided they were tired of france. So they took it over. Now all france is is a handful of colonies scattered across the globe
Too bad you can't send a salvage fleet to resurrect the Wide Tom.
He would never dishonor the glorious dead by doing that! RIP Wide Tom!
Hapsburg is the new Theseus for the 19th century onward. SPAAAAAAAACE!
sometimes I wish this game let you develop some silly stuff, while keeping within reason. So long as it doesn't cause the ship to roll or be overweight, you can place it. I want to see small boats with tank turrets. I want to see a ship that tired to mount a railway size cannon. I want a battleship sized vessel but covered in nothing but autocannons. I want more silly, but restricted silly.
Pirates of the Caribbean style rotary ship cannon silly levels. Guns on a battleship? no, all dumb fire rocket Nebelwerfer turrets. I want this silly.
i modded my game to let you do that but i don't know how to redistribute without sending out a 1GB file

looking at tonnage, speed and armament... i think the habsburg is a cruiser at this point XD

Imagine if you will the stories and movies being made. I now have an alternative history script in mind. this is an actual pitch that would be truly funny and awful. think Red Dawn but the perspective is England being invaded by Austrio Hungry and it is set in the Shitland Isle (misspelled on purpose) and the "resistance uses the ponies instead of the wolverine as a synbol. and the actor to play the leader of the Invading force is none other than Arnold Swartznagger or a facsimile there of
I find it a missed opportunity to not have it about the reformed Austrian Empire that essentially secured its stability by letting go of the more unruly parts of the Balkans and Austrianizing their holdouts by enforcing their language and culture, under the rule of Franz Ferdinand, since his assassination never happened.
At first, their liberation of northern Ireland is supported and welcomed by the republicans and Micheal Collins due to utterly destroying the Ulster black and tan auxiliaries.
The supplies of arms, ammunition and helmets as well the fact the Austrians are catholic win the people over, but the honeymoon faze soon sours as the Irish realize it's an annexation.
Backroom deals, new alliances and an unspoken sense of populism between the Irish and British form, as they begrudgingly work together to oppose the Austrians, knowing both are too weak to stop the hun.
Will the sun finally set on the British empire, or will the emerald isles be the spoils of war?

My Florida class "ice breaker" ship I designed in my second ever campaign is my favorite design. 130k tons of max survivability driving headlong into enemy formations at 32 knots. It'd scatter the enemy and let my normal BB's armed with 16" pick 'em off one by one. My second favorite is probably the French La Petite class BC's that had 6x3 forward facing 16" turrets. Point the nose at the enemy and let loose with eighteen 16" shells in one salvo. Glorious.
1 more episodes Tex pls! I really want to see you fight the US
3:26:52 A destroyer ... Of the Star Destroyer category. 😅
Honestly, the battles in low visibility using radar to spot the enemy before they see you and firing torpedoes - it's like you made the same thing as an attack submarine just in the form of a surface ship.
Can you imagine adding the Welsh to the insane Unrest Stew of the Austro-Hungarian Empire? 🤣

Thanks for the long play Tex, always enjoy them , and helps getting through my long ass work days. Keep up the awesome work, and your audience truly appreciates it !!
Bonus admiral tex..... lucky us
The final design session felt like watching someone continually turning a knob back and forth wondering why the thing isn't working when they just needed to flip the switch next to the knob.
Aft wing turrets needed to be nudged towards the bow to open up rotation more. The rear super structure wasn't blocking them from turning, it was the aft center barbette.
Or like adjusting the tracking on an old VCR set.
@@schaddenkorp6977 "Heck with, that'll do for now" moment included. 😁
It's something I've been conscious of since Habsburging my starting battleships in my American game, because there are _very_ limited positions you can put your main gun turrets on that hull, and once I had mark four guns I couldn't mount an aft turret at all because of the rear overhang. At least not with the hull length I had; if I'd built it longer and narrower I might've been able to keep the rear turret longer.
I love the opening battle, where the storm is so severe that you can't even identify what the hell is shooting at you beyond it being a warship nor can you expect your ship to steer, and yet our brave lads managed to not only eat a solid torpedo volley on the side but also took down the enemy fleet almost in its entirety minus the one ship that was smart enough to run away.
Another one already!? You spoil us tex.
-Also, it's a shame the direction the game is taking with Multiplayer, it seems like they're making it some kind of weird ELO competitive matchmaking system - hell if I know how that's going to work but they said they're doing it - and its rumored to be a PAID DLC, truly wack. I mean maybe if the base game wasn't already absurdly expensive for being in early-access & the multiplayer actually added co-op campaign, co-op ship command, and a more 'sandboxy' PVP battle mode I'd maybe have bought it.
Nearly 4hrs of Unrestricted Tom Warfare!

...a 28 12 inch broadside... madness glorious madness!
May want to check your math again. The _DESTROYER_ had eight turrets, four guns each, but only six could fire to either broadside. Thirty-two guns, twenty-four in a broadside.
tex, i personally hope that you continue to enjoy playing this game for a long long time.

Were the subs in Japan suppose to be Ocean going instead of coastal?
I caught that too, I doubt it
I actually find it odd they developed a game that can go to 1950 or even 1945 yet the concept of AA deck mounted machineguns or at the least, 20mm aerial directed cannons didn't occur to them during the development of this game.
The air is too thick to fly in in this game 😁
The game is focused on the naval aspect. It basically operates on the unspoken idea that the Age of Blood and Iron as the world of the 1880's knew would continue on forever. IRL, it ended with WW1 and the collapse or restructuring of every major empire left in existence, but that doesn't necessarily happen in any given save.
The Habsburg needs to see action, before the end…
I was shouting at the screen "the hapsburg should protect the homeland! Break the blockade with it!"
I would like to see you save the Qing dynasty. China is quite hard to play from 1890. Everyone picks you apart.

Holy shit what in the warcrime is going on in Ireland??

Tex: "I'm not good at games"
Looking at this campaign, sure, and I'm the Pope.
Edit: if you are looking for similar to UAD but with planes, Rule the Waves 3 includes planes and missiles, it's not as visually appealing or as gameable, but it is pretty fun
@1:27:38 - Correct me if I'm wrong, but after France surrendered in 1940, Germany DID find the same exact train car used to sign their own surrender in 1918. And then, just to rub it in, they blew it up! Very much an ultimate gesture of "no takesy-backsies" to the French.
you made a fast battleship 11500-ton pre-dreadnought 😭
actually, with those triple 9-inch turrets and with the speed and size, you sort of ended up making a very heavily-armored Deutschland/Panzerschiffe on an ancient hull
Haven't played in a while as I had heard that the new update broke a bunch of stuff...but one thing to note while watching this is the weather effects! It reminds me of everything I've read in history about naval warfare--weather is KING. So if you have better radar than the other guy, it means you have eyes and he don't (when it comes to blinding bad weather). This is BEAUTIFUL!
you mean a History Channel that didn't talk about ancient aliens? What a concept
Exchange prisoners? No. Take out submarine? Yes.
Doing your best to be exceptionally annoying. It's what we do here.
He's a precious boi.
I found an exploit and I don't know how long it's going to last. If you build a warship with only it's required gun and it's smokestack plus bridges, design a refit of it max'd out, then refit that refit with exactly one minor change, you can cut down build time dramatically. I have been able to reduce a twenty six month original construction down to seventeen by doing this.
100 BB's when the rest of the world's navies can hardly have 100 ships total.
Austro-Hungarian Liverpool- if it lasts long enough you could have the Beatles singing traditional Hungarian Romani folksongs, or something equally wild.
No reason to be defensive about keeping the Habsburg as your flag ship. In the real world the HMS Victory is still the flag ship of Britain's first sea lord, despite being (sadly) not sea worthy anymore.
Stupid and irresponsible? That sounds amazing.
I forget enter doesn't just send the comment.

based on what you said about airpower, carriers, and treaties, sounds like you might enjoy Rule the Waves.
The hapsburg is a ceremonial flagship. It also just happens to be useful in a fight.
1:30:00 I understand a Doctor Christmas has a bomber design for your air forces if you are interested...
3:25:00 The US Navy doesn't build destroyers, they build Cruisers and call them destroyers. It looks like you do as well.
The fact that you can't do the old Civ thing of continuing to play after the game is over is kind of sad...especially since my run of Japan had me killing off Germany after having destroyed Russia, Britain and Italy...
When the sun never sets on the Austro-Hungarian Empire, when goulash is the national dish everywhere, when paprika is on every table, when L'Austeriti class ships are too expensive to maintain.
You know that Tex has been up to his boat 'tism again.
Thanks for this series, guys. It has been entertaining as a narrative and appalling as a historical divergence.
Am I the only one who thinks that come the 1970s, this universe will have a animated television series named Raumschlachtschiff W I D E T O M ?
I feel like the Ausrto-Hungarian empire in this game has, true to the concept of the dual monarchy, a dual admiralty. There's a sensible admiralty with a doctrine around torpedos and global operations, they mostly wear restrained, practical uniforms and get things done quietly. Then there's the crazt admiralty, where a mail clerk has three ostrich feathers and six yards of gold braid in their day to day uniform and views the concept of restraint as an insult. Their first question on any design is "can it be bigger?" and they run the battleship fleet.
The only issues are when the crasy admiralty gets to command the sensible admiralty's ships, and you get torpedo destroyers charging battleships in line ahead. It works pretty well otherwise. Other nations are horrified at this as it leads them to question everything they thought they knew about everything.
Picked this game up ather seeing the atrocities committed by Tex. I'm having fun refitting torpedo boats well after they are considered obsolete and still annihilate opposing forces i really shouldn't.
Tex you've been saying for 3 videos now I'm going to make a large fleet of subs and unleash them on the world... when do i get to see the madness you can come up with in Wolf Pack warfare?
So not sure why but 13 out ofv15 baby chick's prefer to lay down when listing to this video. And because agitated when I stopped the show before it ended.
That torpedo "fight" in the storm at the beginning must have been horrific for those crews. They spotted your destroyers, fitted on them for about 90 seconds, spotted your torpedoes, and 5 seconds later, they impacted and killed hundreds of sailors.
Hey Tex. On the fleet screen you should click the add crew box at the bottom. It automatically adds crew so you’ll never be low crew on your ships.
The Hapsburg is about the size of your "destroyers." I bet her keel, helm, bell, and silver service are the only original parts.
1:17:29 Tex you offered them something England never did; the freedom to keep their national and historical roots as long as they follow your rules.😅😂
Did Tex ever realize "Pentagon Wars" was based off the story of an unhinged grifter?
@1:26:25 You been so busy blockading them that your Coast Guard went on holiday.
