I remember the early 90's, when I had a 1984 naked BMW K100. Other guys (rice-coocker drivers) where smiling about my "Flying Brick" with it's 98hp and 238kg. But after some trips through the black forrest (Germany) the laughter wasn't so loud any more... And now, about 25 years later, see this Bike! 30kg less and twice as powerful. And no one titles this BMW as a "flying brick" or a driving couch, THIS IS A PURE SUPERBIKE!! Awesome! Big respect to the BMW engineers!
What i`m imagining right now: BMW S1000RR, full akrapovic generation, full HP parts, power commander, maximum carbon usage, removing stop, head lights also the back seat, removing mirrors, the left and right orange side lighters, puttin crash caps. And we are ready to go !!!!
The entire bike is asymmetrical, not just the headlights, e.g the left fairings are completely different from the right. And it is all designed so for function, not because the engineers went off on a whim.
"According to BMW, the S1000RR has an asymmetrical front fairing not just for styling purposes but also because the high-beam and low-beam headlights differ from each other in size and weight, and to emphasize each one’s performance BMW constructed the fairing accordingly." motorcycle[dot]com I'm too lazy to go hunting for the article about the different fairings and how one is slotted/shaped differently for cooling purposes but it is out there. Finally, I also don't want to argue :)
Function? I dont mean to start an argument but explain to me how a hole on one side and a set of longitudinal air vents on the other side would serve that purpose; round headlight on the right and a long one on the left; why the front indicators are so low? Aerodynamics? I dont think so. No rational explanation I reckon, I think they were trying to make it stand out from other bikes and they have succeeded. Only problem is, it turned out to be ugly
Found it: "Side fairings: The left side is pure function, providing an extraction route for hot air from the radiator. The gills on the right are much more interesting, emphasizing the supposed F1 technology used in the engine. The BMW Sauber F1.08 famously incorporates gill-like engine covers, but unfortunately the current F1.09 does not. The asymmetry further emphasizes that of the headlights." hellforleathermagazine[dot]com

Significant improvements made from 2012 on, what an amazing creation.
When I first saw that motorcycle I thought it was ugly. As time passed, I became the most beautiful. Really incredible design.
Best damn bike promo clip ever.
