    Thank you. This helped me from buying and throwing parts at it (Pro-Form XP 650E). I originally thought it might be the drive motor then I thought it could be the motor control board. With the explanation of the blinking light, it was identified as the need for more lubricant for the belt. I followed your video on belt lubricant and it is back up and "running" again. Thank you.

    Man, you just saved me a fortune and my exercise in the coronavirus lockdown. Took the motor out yesterday and checked it using the cordless drill power pack trick. Put it back in and was getting two blinking lights. Must've knocked connector to the controller board so took them all out, put them all back in and bingo! One fixed machine. Thank you very much!

      All I did was move my golds gym 410 treadmill downstairs to the garage, & now the belt is not moving whatsoever.
      Everything else functions except the belt. I can move the belt manually though. I checked all the wiring & see no problems @ all.
      I am so bummed & confused. It was working fine upstairs in my room, but all of a sudden, it doesn't.
      What could be the issue? I was finally motivated to commit to more exercise because of this quarantine

    Hi there, wondering if you have any ideas for a Nordic Track S30 where nothing is powering up now. Looking at the red controller board led when you plug in power it lights up very dim and is kind of flickering it gradually gets slightly brighter over 20seconds and you can then tell its a very fast flash. After about 30seconds the dim flashing stops it does one fully bright light up for a second then goes off and stays off. Only way to repeat is powering off for a few mins. Any ideas I'm trying to figure out if it could need a new board, transformer or something else. Thanks in advanced.

      the controller is detecting a high amp draw situation. the motor is needing to work harder than expected for some reason. this is usually due to worn out belts on older equipment or belts that are too tight if the machine is new or doesn't have much use. Make sure you only use the manufactures recommended performant lube. Many Off the shelf lubricants can interact with what is on the belt and actually cause friction issues.

  • @ussmillerco

    Ok. Have a nordictrack X9i that does everything normal but after a short time goes into fold back mode (with a heavier user) (slow flashing constant pattered). Now this is a bought used treadmill with some miles on it and no record of when it was serviced/belt changed. So I have already bought and am waiting for a new belt and a deck service kit /w/ lubricant so that it’s back to like new friction wise. My question is, I ran amp probe check on the power lead for the treadmill with a heavier user and it doesn’t seem to go above 8 amp draw (obviously fluctuates when stepping) when it backs off (speed slows down) in fold back mode. My question is can the controller board go into fold down mode earlier (at lower current draw) if it has entered fold down mode numerous times before (assuming the previous owner kept using the TM with a high friction issue for a long time) ie. a weakened controller. I know that circuits specs can drift do to constantly being overdrawn. Is that something you have seen in the past? Do we know how fold down mode works....is it a heat sensor on the board backing the motor power down, or is it an amperage sensor for a specific time that starts fold down mode. Is there a way to actually know at what load the fold back occurs, and a way to confirm it’s proper operation. I believe that changing the belt and deck should fix the problem but I’m concerned that when fold back occurred, it was below the 8-10 amps that would indicate a properly running treadmill. (It also could be that the amp probe isn’t fast enough to catch the higher current fluctuations and is giving a lower average reading), so there’s that too. Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Very helpful video, thanks for posting! Seeing a slightly varied pattern on my studio s22i bike: solid green, blinking red: 4x followed by 2x. Any idea what it’s trying to say? • @FitnessEquipmentHelp
      @FitnessEquipmentHelp  Год назад

      This video is for treadmill motor controllers. The patterns for the bike controllers and treadmill incline controllers for use with DC lift motors are very different. Usually 4 pause(x), blink errors mean it didn't get a response from the incline motor it was expecting and 6 Pause(x), blink errors mean it didn't receive input from the resistance motor when it didn't receive feed back. it does not necessarily mean the controller is bad.

    I have a proform 600c the treadmill belt runs and there isn't any tension on the drive motor. But the motor stutters goes to normal speed and then for a second or so slows down then goes back to normal it does that every full rotation it seems like. I get a consistent blinking pattern. Is it the deck or the motor?

    • @FitnessEquipmentHelp
      @FitnessEquipmentHelp  Год назад

      I want to make sure I was following you. you are saying that without anyone walking on the treadmill the belt will slow down and speed up? this can be a few things and you most likely will not be able to confirm it without additional diagnostic tools but I think it is most likely a controller issue. If the speed signal to the controller is constant but the voltage to the motor is dipping down enough to slow the motor noticeably then the issue is likely the voltage coming out of the controller. the other options would be that the signal coming out of the console is dipping or that the motor is failing.

    I have a proform 18.0 RE eliptical. The board is steady on give s blink when the ramp should go up/down and gives no indication if resistance is adjusted. replaced teh board same issue. Both motors appear to work when I get battery and test them. I get no flashing led to indicate any problem. Control board was replaced as well... Thoughts. Getting fat now.....

    • @FitnessEquipmentHelp
      @FitnessEquipmentHelp  Год назад

      The power board on that elliptical has a red and green light that should be on all the time indicating it is receiving 120Vac from the wall and its should be sending 12Vdc to the console. This is probably obviously working since the console is on. There is no LED for any resistance functions. the signals just pass through the board. The other two lights are also red and green. One of these lights comes on anytime the power board is receiving an incline up signal from the console, the other comes on anytime it is receiving an incline down signal from the console. (The indication for up and down may differ depending on the configuration of the elliptical). Neither of the lights should be blinking. If the incline red and green lights are blinking I would suspect an intermittent signal reaching the board. First try an incline calibration (instructions for your model should be in your users manual). Then if the blinking continues I would suspect a pinch or damaged wire harness and replace or repair that before I would replace a console.

    • @FitnessEquipmentHelp
      @FitnessEquipmentHelp  Год назад

      You will need to make sure the magnetic safety key is in place on the console. If you are getting power to the console and the key is in place then you should check the wires between the key switch and the console. (Usually the console will blink for just a second when the power switch is turned on indicating power to the console. You may need a second person to flip the switch while you observe if the console lights.)

    • @FitnessEquipmentHelp

    Looking for help Nordictrack 2450, the control board has solid lit red and green LED. But when I try to initiate incline program nothing happens and same for starting any workout, the belt does not move. The treadmill is brand new has not even been used once. The "power board" has a continuously flashing red led.

    • @FitnessEquipmentHelp
      @FitnessEquipmentHelp  Год назад

      The newer model NordicTracks have Changed the incline system to use a DC powered lift motor. that includes the addition of new circuit boards to run the DC lift motor. The red light on the motor controller as seen in this video is the same for drive motor function however. because the light is on solid and not blinking it indicates the speed control signal did not reach the motor controller. (it does not know it should be powering the drive motor). Assuming the console has started a workout (it is counting time and distance) then that red LED should be blinking. Since the incline is also not working I would suspect one of the wires that communicated from the console down to the Incline motor controller (has the red light that flickers that is ground underneath the mounting bracket) That is the first stop for Both the incline and speed signals. If these wires are connected correctly and intact. I would have the Incline motor controller replaced.

    • @FitnessEquipmentHelp
      @FitnessEquipmentHelp  Год назад

      If the red light does not blink (normal or error) when the console starts a workout then it seems the signal to start the belt is not being received by the controller. This is usually a wire issue.

    • @FitnessEquipmentHelp
      @FitnessEquipmentHelp  Год назад +1

      @@michelle1colorado If the console is not receiving power and you are sure the wires are intact then there is either a issue with the controller not sending power or the console doesn't respond when powered on and you would want to replace the controller or the console. Typically you would need a voltage multimeter to test for the issue. If the red and green light are on the controller, then the controller at least believes it is producing the power required for the console; so would indicate a console issue.

    I have a ProForm, the belt randomly stopped working. The video doesn’t say what the potential issue could be for a steady blinking light. Power to console and control board are fine, when the speed is increased on the console the light blinks continuously. Am I right to assume this might be a motor issue.

    • @FitnessEquipmentHelp
      @FitnessEquipmentHelp  9 месяцев назад

      the steady blinking light should mean that the Controller is receiving a speed control signal from the console and is out-putting DC voltage to the drive motor. if that is the case then there may be an issue with the drive motor, or the wires between the drive motor and the controller.

    Quick question for a repairman. you must see lots of treadmills. What's the best/ cheapest treadmill for a 300lb who walks daily 3.2mph @ 7incline and listens to music on spotify with earpods/ doesn't care about programs, bells and whistles?

    • @FitnessEquipmentHelp

      Probably any lightly used treadmill on your local classifieds. there are a lot of treadmills out there that were bought in the last 2 years with the pandemic that people are realizing they are not using like they thought they would. these can sometimes be had at a bargain. Unfortunately the more you tax the motor either in weight or how long you want to use the treadmill during your workout, the bigger HP motor you will want to have. Bigger motor units tend to come with the whistles and bells. If you are looking for new I might suggest from my company (iFIT) something from the Proform brand for economy.

    • @FitnessEquipmentHelp
      @FitnessEquipmentHelp  Год назад +1

      the 4 flash error means one of the mos-fets on the board has failed. I know high amperage through the board can cause those to fail. You will need a new controller. you may want to make sure your belt is in good condition, lubricated and adjusted properly (as loose as possible w/out slipping) to make sure the amp load of the motor is reduced to prevent possible future failure. I always recommend a surge protector. A power surge can also cause controller failure but that dos not sound like you had this particular issue.

    • @FitnessEquipmentHelp

      The 4 blink error on the controller indicates that the controller has failed. some causes may be power surges as well as high motor amp draw. Make sure your belt is lubricated it is not uncommon to need to lubricate the belt annually depending on use. Always use your treadmill plugged into a surge protector.

      if the red light on the controller does not begin blinking when the console is running a workout then it usually means the speed signal is not being received by the controller. This is usually a faulty or damaged wire harness. I would check it at any assembly points or folding pinch points for wire issues.

      The LEDs only Show an error blink in response to a speed signal. If your console is calibrating the incline (or thinks that it is) no speed signal will be received by the controller and the light will remain in the ready (on solid ) state. If your console does not end its calibration there may be an issue with the console not the controller.

      You are welcome. w/out a multimeter it is hard to say for sure but if the console is acting like it is working then it probably is. The fact that the belt moves for a few seconds indicated that the speed signal is reaching the controller (lower circuit board) at least to begin with. Normally the LED on the controller going solid should indicate that the speed signal is no longer being received, which would make me suspect the upright wire. That wire can usually be visually inspected and unless you have moved the machine or re-assembled it for some reason then I don't know why it would spontaneously fail, (especially at about 5 seconds into a workout consistently). So I would think that the issue would be with the motor controller circuit board (even though usually I would expect it to be throwing some error code like in this video. Even though it is not throwing the error I think it is the most likely part.

    Hi. Great video. My Proform premier 900 stopped working. The controller led blinks once on power up then goes solid. The console seems dead. I exposed the console boards and I see a 3x blink on one of the leds. I suspect that the console is bad but am hesitant to risk $500. What do you think the likelihood is that a blinking led is indicative of a bad console?

      The error you are seeing is indicating a high amp draw. the motor is pulling more amperage than expected and the controller is shutting it down until the amp draw is normal. This is usually because of over tightened walking belts or belts in need of lubrication. on older machines or machines with a lot of use it can indicate a worn out walking belt. This can also occur if foreign substances get under the belt causing friction. In rare cases it can be worn out or defective rollers or motor... anything that causes the motor to work harder and the amps to peak on the treadmill. Continued use at high amp draw can damage the motor controller itself.

    My treadmill proform XT 70 shut down completely with Tripp in my wall circuit breaker , after reset my circut braker I checked the control board, and it has a solid red light. What would be the issue typically in situations like this?

    • @FitnessEquipmentHelp
      @FitnessEquipmentHelp  7 лет назад

      The most common reasons for your homes circuit breaker to trip when you start the motor are using the treadmill on a circuit that may be overloaded and using the treadmill on a circuit with an Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) type breaker.
      The treadmill used a large amount of power, (amps), particularly when starting up or increasing the speed of the belt. It is recommended that the treadmill be on a dedicated circuit capable of providing at least 15 amps. Dedicated means that the only thing that losses power when the breaker trips is the treadmill. If other devices must be on the circuit then they should be very low draw devices like the light in the room or possibly a cell phone charger or the like. If too many devices are on the same circuit when the treadmill tries to start up the breaker will trip as more amps than the breaker is rated for is trying to be pulled through the circuit.
      If your treadmill is on a dedicated circuit you should see if you are on an AFCI protected circuit. The breaker should say AFCI or ARC Fault on it. These are a relatively new type of circuit breaker. If your home was built in the last 15 or so years it likely has AFCI breakers in the bedrooms. Homes built even more recently were required by code to have them on all circuits. AFCI breakers are designed to detect signals that look like sparks and shut off power to the circuit before these sparks can cause a fire. The problem is many appliances including treadmills generate signals that are similar to the ones AFCI breakers are designed to detect. Some AFCI breakers are not sophisticated enough to tell the difference. Google "AFCI nuisance tripping" and you will find that along with treadmills, people have had issues with many types of products tripping their AFCI circuit breakers. To relieve this you can try plugging your treadmill into a noise filter. Your owner's manual likely mentions that you can get one from customer service. there are also other commercially available noise filters such as the Tripp-lite Isobar line of surge protectors.

      The key switch is like the on off for the console. The controller should have the red led illuminated and be sending about 9-12VDC to the console on the red wire in the main wire harness regardless to if the key is in the console or not. If you have the ability to check you should have ~120VAC at the hot and neutral wires on the motor controller. if you have voltage out if the switch but not at the controller then you may have a loose or disconnected wire or a thermal switch within the motor that is stuck open.

      @@FitnessEquipmentHelp I appreciate your help! Let me back track... When I did the inital incline calibration the incline motor started and didn't stop. It inclined so far that it lifted the base off the ground and broke the belly pan. When I heard the belly pan crack I stopped the calibration. I powered the system down and back on again and incline motor kicked back on. I powered off and unplugged the system and removed the incline motor. I reconnected the incline motor outside the belly plan and powered the system up. The incline motor then inclined for a few seconds, declined for a few seconds then stops. I removed the incline sensor and it had clear grease all over it. I cleaned up the sensor and put back in the incline motor but still got the same 2 seconds up and 2 seconds down. Here are a few more questions... #1 Is it common for the incline motor to over incline breaking the belly pan if the incline sensor or wire is bad? Seems to me the incline motor would stop inclining at 15 since thats the max? #2 Is the incline sensor supposed to have grease all over it?

    • @FitnessEquipmentHelp
      @FitnessEquipmentHelp  4 года назад

      @@davidlovato5330 The incline senor "lives in the incline motor next to the main gear that has magnets embedded in it. the gears are greased up so it is fine if the sensor has grease on it. It wont effect the sensors ability to detect the magnets. It sounds like during the calibration process something in the motor broke. It might be helpful to understand what is happening during calibration. the console sends the incline up signal to the motor. The motor extends until it physically can no longer move due to some sort of physical stop. Usually internal to the motor. Once the motor "jams" the magnet in the gears no longer pass the sensor and the console stops sending the incline up signal after about 1-2 seconds of not getting a reading from the magnet sensor. The console then turns around and sends the incline down signal till the motor "jams" in the down ward direction. It stops sending power to the motor when again it doesn't get a sensor signal for about 1-2 seconds. While traveling down it counts the number of magnet passes from the highest position to the lowest position. the console uses the number of magnet passes to calculate the different incline positions for the machine. If the motor is turning on in calibration and stopping after about 2 seconds and going back after about 2 seconds then the console is not getting a sensor signal. After what you describe it could be because the motor has broken. No, this is not very common. The incline motors tend to be the most robust component on the treadmills. They are designed to lift the weight if the deck/frame and a user while the user is running on the machine.

      @@davidlovato5330 If the issue did not follow the motor then it is sounding likely that the issue is with another component. The only thing I can say for certain is if the incline moves up a little then down a little in calibration then the incline signal did not reach the console when the console was expecting it. Anything between the motor (sensor in the motor) and the console is suspect. If you believe the motor is intact you can plug the good motor into the suspect treadmill and it should give you the same error. then you would know it is an issue with the controller or wires.

      the red wire from the controller should carry 9-12 VDC anytime there is a green light on that controller. If you are getting voltage at the controller but not at the top of the harness then you would like need to repair or replace the upright wire. if the voltage is at the top of the wire then a console inset will likely be needed. The green light should be indicating the controller is generating the 9-12 VDC needed. of course if you have no voltage at the controller (despite the green light) then your controller would be faulty.

    Reviewed this a couple times, my situation doesn’t match any patterns in the video.
    On occasion, the treadmill slows to a stop until I get off of the belt; red light will go through several long, slow blinks over 6-7 seconds before catching up and going back into rapid blinks. This seems to happen especially at slower speeds (walking); I’ve found myself hopping off the machine do it can ‘catch up’, then get back on hoping it’s working normally.

      if the console is beeping 3 times in quick succession it usually indicates you are asking it to do something it is not able to do, like lower the incline when you are already in the lowest position. This error beep could indicate that you have stuck buttons so the console thinks you are pressing something else when you are pressing the start button. In this case you can try to free up the membrane switches under the button overlay on the console by using the heal of your hand to firmly rub over the top of the buttons. If this isn't successful then a new console would likely be in order. Unfortunately the consoles for this unit are No longer available from the manufacturer.

      It sounds like the controller is not sending voltage to the motor. either there is a bad controller (in which case usually there is a error code from the red led on the controller) or the speed signal control from the console is not reaching the controller (a solid red LED light on the controller). If the console shows that a workout is running but the led is not blinking then i would suspect the wires between the console and the controller. (The speed control signal is along the blue wire on most iFIT brand treadmills. )

    When I trailed my treadmill on the The red light comes on and then it fades to no light

      That is new one for me. If you are certain there is still AC voltage being received by the controller then the controller should be replaced. I would suspect however there may be a short or damaged/disconnected wire or switch that only allows power to the controller intermittently.

    can we identify the failed point(s) and repair the control board for each error code?

      I am only aware of a few of the issues. i know for example that the 4 blink error code is a bad fett on the board but my experience is really only repair at the part level not so much at the components on the circuit boards.

    I have one that won't start at the first speed, it starts at higher speeds,but I need the first speed, I don't know why?

      That is pretty strange. I do think a new controller would be in order.

    What does it mean if it blinks with no pausing?

      It means that the controller is receiving a speed control signal from the console and should be outputting voltage to the drive motor. See the video at 1:28 ruclips.net/video/QszHrCs72AM/видео.html
