- After spending 5 years as Foreign Minister to France, Thomas Jefferson became a committed Francophile. Jefferson's exposure to French culture transformed his thoughts on many subjects, especially food, wine, and architecture. 🇫🇷

Sensational video. Thank you so much for transporting us back in time. Reading a history book is one thing but it is one million times better to listen to Thomas Jefferson as portrayed so beautifully and thoughtfully by this wonderful gentleman! An article appeared in the Australian newspaper on July 8, 2021 by James Phillips titled "US Declaration is our nation's founding document too". Mr Phillips asserted that the US Declaration of Independence had great consequences for Australia- profoundly influencing the Australian Constitution and also Australia's system of government. This was something we were never taught at school back in my day! (we were less cosmopolitan back then. When i was in primary school, i recall us facing a big picture of Queen Elizabeth and having to sing "God save the Queen" on some kind of regular basis....say no more ) It makes so much sense that the revolution in the usa resulted in a flow-on effect to other countries in the world. It's an interesting reflection on human behaviour that we don't generally acknowledge the momentous role that USA has played in bringing us the democratic freedoms and protections that we enjoy today in so many countries around the world. This Australian is endlessly grateful. :-)
Have you ever visited 'Le Désert de Retz'?
Very disappointed that among his statues by Houdan, he doesn't mention the one he bought of Voltaire - considering that Jefferson was called 'the Virginia Voltaire' according to Isaac Kramnick in "The Godless Constitution" And after reading much of his correspondence, I'm sure the real Jefferson was far more likely to mention Voltaire than kings and queens. He didn't fawn over them like whoever wrote this. He was much more interested and supportive of the revolutionizes. Ditched it after 15 mns. I truly don't recognize the man I read in this portrayal.
Plus do we really think his French pronunciation was this bad after 5 years in France?
