- Thanks for being here! I have tried to make a very easy to follow video on how to tie a braid to mono leader knot (Surgeons Knot), loop knot, and a couple other knots! These are knots I use EVERY TIME I GO OUT! With these knots, you shouldn't need anything more for fishing with lures!!! The braid to mono leader knot (surgeons knot) is an extremely reliable and super easy knot to tie! The loop knot is an incredibly valuable knot to have in your arsenal, as well.

Triple Surgeon Knot aka “Barrel Knot”. I use it for tippet to leader in fly fishing. Didn’t realize that I could use it for braid to mono. Very very helpful thanks!
Caleb- nice brief practical video. Thanks.
Another idea- as a guide you guys have systems for prepping your boat and gear and also systems for cleaning up and maintaining your boat and equipment. Those could be four different six minute Saturdays!
Great idea!
Great braid to mono leader knot, I have been tying the uni to uni but yours is a lot simpler.
Beats the hell out of twisting that FG knot at home!!
Yes sir. I use the FG from time to time. More time than it’s worth.
No kidding! FG Knot is a bear. I usually use the Double Uni, but I'm gonna try this triple surgeons knot out!
10 Minutes and 3 simple, solid, No Fail knots. KNOT bad !!! Ha, Ha, LOL :-) !!!
Great knot knowledge. I usually use the uni-knot for everything but I like the double palomar for braid you used!
Thanks Caleb. I now feel the four knots I've been tying for years are not the problem!!! I had a "Stuart Smalley" moment. :-})
Thanks again for taking the time to teach and not just show the typical videos of reeling in fish. I'll start using the Surgeons Knot. The FG knot is too difficult to tie on the boat and tends to fail. I switched to the uni knot but also not easy to tie and its bulky. Appreciate your videos
Caleb. Thank you for this tutorial video and sharing your wisdom. This knot changed everything for me. I was showed a different way wen I first started using braided line a year ago. I used to get so frustrated. No matter what I did I just could get it right. My anxiety would take control of me. After watching this video just once , my first attempt I had success. There is no way I’ll ever quit using this knot. Again , thank you so much.
I'm loving that leader-to-mainline knot showcase. I always use those little swivels between the two lines and they rust in no time so I will be implementing this knot in the future. Thanks for making this video. I'm a huge fan of the podcast and love that you're on RUclips now.
Brandon Anders I really couldn’t appreciate this comment any more than I already do! Glad to help!
I’ve dissed my Polomar knot for years. I’m glad I got a reinforcement in trusting it.
The most tied knot on my boat !
Nice material....I thought I had the easiest to tie leader knot already. You showed me another one. Keep up the good work. Look forward to the next one.
That line to leader knot is money. I’m done with uni to uni.
It was a great day when ol Rick showed me that knot, no doubt.
Thanks for the leader knot. I got really frustrated trying to tie and FG knot on a windy pier with the broad blowing everywhere. This looks alot easier. Thank you!
Good knots that work great without all of the BS. Thank you!!
First time I saw the braid to leader knot you demonstrated was in the mid to late 90's on a tuna trip aboard the Royal Polairs out of San Diego. It was demonstrated by John Collins and therefore we all called it the John Collins knot. We pulled for hours on 200lb+ tuna and never had a failure.
Same. I was shown it years ago. Never given a name. It’s just “good knot”. 😂
Thank you. I've struggled with my knots for years. These were simple , yet holds well. Be safe brother.
I use pretty much the same knots, except for the mono to braid. That is a slick knot, and ill definitely be learning it!
Great informative video, I will definitely keep this video bookmarked!
Great video! The mono to braid knot is excellent, even easier than uni to uni knot, thanks!! Great show
1st of all love your channel I know this is an old post but the 1st time I've seen it I use that knot now absolutely perfect thank you!
Awesome. Great to hear!
Excellent video. I tie much more complicated knots...thanks!
Hilarious been tying loop knot a little different but definitely like this version more !! thanks
I believe that Braid to mono is the Surgeon’s knot.
Aaron Gill I believe you’re right. I knew that once upon a time.
Triple surgeon is what the buggy whip (Fly Fishing) crowd call it
Yes...it’s a triple surgeons knot...because you went through 3 times. With thicker mono to mono etc...most times use a double surgeons and only loop through twice. Never tried this knot for mono/flouro to braid. Super easy and and fast! Have you ever used it on flouro to braid? I always use flouro leaders and not mono. I usually use uni to uni...but if this works it’s huge for me! Can tie it blindfolded in the wind in 10 seconds 😂 Thanks for the tips! Was always told needed a much bullied knot so braid doesn’t slip. Please let me know if you use this with flouro to braid. Cheers!
Thanks ! I like the knot, braid to mono. Ive tried the unie to difficult.
Thanks Caleb.
Wow! Great knots. Thanks!
I really enjoyed this video. Planning to use a few of these knots in the future. Hope to see more content like this. Keep up the great work!
Also another video idea you could show us why your boat works for you in what you do on a day to day basis.
Let me try to figure out how I would demonstrate that on a video, Colby.
I’d watch that.
Great videos seen allot of great info on the Paul Browns. What action spinning rods work best with them?
So sturgeon knot, improved clinch knot, palomar knot N sturgeon loop knot
Good stuff man, keep em coming!
Been fishing Galveston Bay my entire life, but 95% of that has been from shore, piers, rock groins etc. This April I broke down and bought a brand new 22’ Blue Wave. It has Garmin with basic transducer, power pole and MinnKota w/iPilot Tolling motor. I think I have everything I need to find fish, but yet I am still having issues. Maybe one red or flounder per trip. I mostly fish the bay or back bays in shallow water. What is left for me to do? Do i need anything else? Do I need Reef Recon overlay for Garmin? Considered Paying $97.00 for Salt Strong Membership. Not sure I want to do that. I recently found and am now listening to the Bite Me Podcast every week. (Luv you guys). Just subscribed to your Capt Caleb TV. I have been working in some plastics with live bait. Still getting used to/building some confidence with plastics. Is there a different transducer that I should have on the boat. Getting tired of those, “only one fish”, wifey looks after buying this awesome/expensive boat! Help is much appreciated. Continuing to watch/listen to all of you guys. Thanks, Retired Glenn
Right On, i dont remember the gentleman's name, 10 years ago he showed me the very same, that you have done. 👊
👍
Solid. Thank you
Good stuff!👍💪🎣
I'm always looking for a better mousetrap, I'll give them a try.
Great tutorial capt. What kind of clippers are you useing thanks!!
Those are Boomerang brand.
@@CaptCalebTV ok thanks capt!!
Make some fishing video s
Great Info!!
Happy to help, Carlos! thanks for watching!
In one of your videos think you can talk about when and where it's good to use a swivel as opposed to tieing straight to the lure and maybe good times to use certain knots?
I can look at that. Honestly, I don’t think I even own a swivel, so it wouldn’t be an honest opinion from me. Lots of people use them, but I just haven’t in years.
@@CaptCalebTV not even on spoons?
Great video! Keep them coming. You just got a New subscriber here! 👍🏼
Thanks!
Do you cast this line out through your guides? This is the problem I'm having. Love your stuff
Yes sir, sure do.
great info ,that braid to mono I`ve been using for yrs. myself don`t know the name. New Sub great channel
Thanks! Surgeons knot.
Hey sir, can you use the knot at 6:00 to tie braid to braid or will it slip too easy?
It should work. I haven’t tried it myself, though.
Do you need to use a swivel from main line to leader
I do not use one, but you certainly can. I know some great fisherman that do.
Very easy to tie, but not close to the strongest.
GT knot, SC knot, Alberto Knot are all easy (tho not AS easy) and stronger.
Why we use a drag! 💪🏼 😘
Do you ever tie the lure directly to the braid or do you always use a leader?
Direct to braid 99% of the time
It's called Yucatan knot..
How often you change out your leaders?
It's easy enough to feel your leader for wear & tear and change it out accordingly but the reason I ask is related more to the leader knot passing thru your rod eyes. Seems as though, if you change your leader frequently, then any knot rub thru the eyes would be minimized. I've had my leader to line knot break on occasion and have attributed it to the rub. I am pretty anal about tying knots so pretty sure that's not the issue. I also leave my leaders on for a long time (several trips) so that may be the issue. I've since taken to not letting the leader knot travel thru the eyes (always stop reeling before the knot hits my rod tip) but this is a pain. Haven't had any issues since doing this (3 years now) but it would be so much easier to let the knot pass thru the eyes. Thanks!
I just replace when the leader gets about 12” or after a day or two, whichever comes first. I’ve not had an issue with knots failing. That being said, I run a loose drag so they don’t get a ton of stress on em
So do you cut trim the tag off of the "loop" knot? I always do, but noticed that you didn't in this video. Thanks
I leave about 1/4”
How about preventing line twists on a spinning reel? Is it the way line is put on?
The way to put it on is very important.. It should go on the spool the same way it comes off the other one.
When you tie leader to main line, does it inhibit the cast. Meaning does the knot hit the guides slowing the line on the cast?
Not really. Just makes a few tick tick sounds.
That’s a double palomar knot. The palomar knot is %100 as strong as the line. I believe the palomar knot was the champion of knot wars.
FG knot beat it, but that knot isn’t fun to tie on the boat.
Capt Caleb TV The FG is the strongest leader to main and the palomar is the strongest hook knot. I do like the simplicity of the surgeons knot and I’ll give it a try. The surgeons knot looks thin and it may run though the rod eyes better.
Ive tied that not i think its called a surgeon not but is it strong
Hey did cad sign up for that club
I am just wondering because he never told me
Yes sir, I think he did
What would you say needs a leader and what needs to be tied directly too?
I’ve used both braid and leader to everything. It’s personal preference and your gut feeling. Things with split rings are slightly less annoying with leader bc braid can get caught up in them.
Do you run your knot to your leader through your eyelets
Yes sir
My life has changed with that braid to mono knot! Kiss my ass FG
Nice!!
I was taught that the knot you tied is a blood knot.
Another good video
Hey bud, just curious, with what applications do you use straight braid to your lures and what lures?? Thanks in advance!!
I use straight braid unless I plan to throw corky all day. Leader, for me, is mostly to avoid braid getting in the hooks and split rings.
@@CaptCalebTV Capt, thank you so much for taking the time to respond! Makes a huge impression.
It's very much appreciated.
Called a water knot
Not a surgeons knot. Look it up
That is a double surgeons knot...I use it all the time and have been for 20 years..
I tie it using 15lb braid, to 20lb flourocarbon, but I do 6 loops, never a failure..
Hell I've yanked up 100lb tree limbs with it..!
Clicked out. Too much side tricking.
