Macy Campbell ikr? I’m singing this for dinner theatre as a low tenor and when I actually do hit that note I often have to throw up afterwards. It’s intense.
Wow, this has a completely different context than the version in the movie. The movie version is very much an "I Want" song in the vein of "Part of Your World" and "Out There." This broadway version is more like a desperate cry for help…a song filled with despair. It's very powerful and Jeremy Jordan does a terrific job. I honestly don't know which version I like better since they serve different functions.
I think the Broadway version is in a more a practical way of unlocking Jack's emotions on the hardships which is more important in the part of the musical this song appears in. However, both are great! (If only Jeremy sang the movie version instead of Bale;) )
JJdaPK this version is so much better to me. I never cared for the original song but I love the passion and cry for help in this version. Jeremy Jordan is incredible. I like the lyrics better too.

Yeah. I've never heard anyone sing a line with more emotion. I wonder how many times he cried hinself, performing it; the sob of despair in it is too real.
except they stop in Albuquerque. The reason is most likely because there isn't a really big stage in Santa Fe, the only semi-big theater is the Lensic and that isn't very big for a show like this

And my mom being amazing said, "It was a great performance though!" needless to say I will not be singing in the shower anymore
I tried working on range in the shower and I tried a high note and it sounded a lot like a moan. My mom was in the room beside the bathroom and didnt look me in the eye for the rest of the day lol
This song is so powerful... its like a cry for help, the way he sings it makes it seem as though it was his last shot at being okay; santa fe. He's putting his trust in the future in a place he's never even seen a picture of, fantasizing over how beautiful it must be to be far away from the place he is right now. Amazing.
imagine if this show stopped in Santa Fe and Jack sang both the prologue and the main song, the whole audience would just be like, "umm, buddy, you're already IN Santa Fe!" XD

Idea: Santa Fe (Prologue) + actual Santa Fe but Jack isn't sure where he wants to go(Every time they say "Santa Fe" it's replaced with another place from the musical ex. "BROOKLYN my old friend")
Don't worry! When the touring production comes to LA, some of the original cast is gonna come back together (Jeremy Jordan, Kara Lindsay, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Ben Fankhauser) and they're gonna film it! It comes to theaters in "early 2017" so yeah.

This right here is where Jeremy Jordan catapulted to being one of my favorite male broadway actors. That voice! This song definitely showcases his range.
I agree, he is a stand-out performer. He's fantastic about conveying emotion through his songs. I disagree with the interpretation of a few things I've heard him perform (a few small things in this included), but some of that may be the director's choice rather than his. He definitely makes all the 'bad singing' (off pitch, choked/high larynx, etc...) and 'bad sounds' (grit, low soft palate, sobs, gasps, etc...) sound really good within the context of the scene and that's a heck of a skill and really what sets apart musical theatre from stuff like opera where it's about the singing rather than telling the story through the song.
just saw this in theaters courtesy of Fathom Events. As a huge fan of the original i must say this broadway version was incredible! and Jeremy Jordan as Jack Kelly did such an awesome job. many different lyrics than original but i loved it. if u love newsies you will love this broadway show
I never saw the original movie before but I loved seeing the Fathom Events presentation of Newsies. It was my first time experiencing it and I was desperate to see Jeremy and his fellow original Broadway Newsies. Have not seen a filmed performance that spectacular since Memphis.
I cannot explain the over-excited spasms I started having when I immediately realized that this is Jeremy and not Corey. I love Corey, but Jeremy just really, really gets this just right.

I was in "Newsies" at my local community theater this year and it just ended a week ago. I came back to this song today, and I'm already missing getting to hear it every night📰🥲.
Evan Williams: Corey Cott is without a doubt just as good as Jeremy. They are both incredibly talented so don't hate on one. Both are perfect for the part and sing so well.
First heard this version of the song five years ago today on a trip to Disney World, and was totally blown away. I spent a good portion of the car ride down listening to it and a few songs off the album. I don't think I've heard it since then but I figured tonight I'd pull it up and have a listen. Still wonderful. Thank you so much for uploading! :)
I can’t count the times I’ve sung this song while sobbing my heart out, screaming some parts cuz I know how he feels. I’m stuck in a place in life like that right now. There’s one place that can save me but I can’t get there
This song and the pure emotion that Jeremy exerts into it is INCREDIBLE, it makes me sob every damn time I hear it. Seeing him sing this live in the recording broke my poor heart in two, it was too much for me to deal with.
God I miss this show. Being Jack was honestly might have been the most fun I’ve ever had in a production. Back that with the awesome and supportive cast I had and I’ll never forget this song.
I played Les years ago in a theatre class production I was doing. The show was only one scene, but to this day this story remains one of my favorites. I just wish I'd gotten the experience of doing the entire play. It was a lot of fun
As someone who has seen both the 1992 version of Newsies and this version, I can truthfully say that in my opinion, both of these versions are truly incredible. I love the fact that Santa Fe means something different in both of them. For this version of Jack, especially in this song, it is a final cry for help. It's his one last shot at trying to be okay and to get away from a world that has literally beaten him down from a young age. In the different versions of the musical, it seems like the songs Santa Fe and Santa Fe reprise are used similarly but entirely different in their own aspects. In this one, the first Santa Fe seems almost hopeful as Jack tells Crutchy of this place that could solve all of their problems, and in this song like I said it is a final plea for an escape. In the original version, Santa Fe is a whimsical place that's so close but yet so far for Jack. He'd heard so much about. It's less of a hopeful escape and more of a daydream. In the reprise though, it is more of a deep longing for a place he's never been. He uses it as an escape without ever actually going there. If you read all of this, thank you for listening to my little rant. Please feel free to tell me what you think about it.
Glad to hear. I haven't set in foot in the Pantages theatre since Wicked was there ten years ago. I mostly see my shows at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. But I'm excited for the filmed performance to come to movie theatres this month.

Same or that they would go on tour with the OBC

If SF means Santa Fe, I think I'm gonna cry from the feels
+Little cute Princess

2016. There comin!!
To me, all the headlines and deadlines are school, and Santa Fe is summer break.
I agree so much,,
I agree
*"Just you wait..."*
Jeremy Jordan= Perfection
the key change at the end!!!!! stunning
I cry everytime this is honestly one of the best broadway songs
good lord, the passion that he sings this with
Idea: Santa Fe (Prologue) + actual Santa Fe but Jack isn't sure where he wants to go(Every time they say "Santa Fe" it's replaced with another place from the musical ex. "BROOKLYN my old friend")
instead of brooklyn, you should do 'hello darkness' ;))
if the show's better than the movie, CLAP YOUR HANDS!
So much better!
👏
👏👏👏
if this show doesn't come to london or isn't back on Broadway by 2018 I might just have to cry because I need to see it so badly.
It's in Calgary right now and I don't have tickets!!!!
LuluisaBookworm I heard about that, so excited! But then, I doubt it'll come to UK cinemas, it's not very well known here :/ will have to get a DVD!
LuluisaBookworm I saw it in Theatres. It was beautiful.
the springer opera house in columbus GA is having this musical in December of this year
i aint getting any younger and ill wanna start brand new
100th like
I need space and fresh air
JACK:
Folks, we finally got our headline. "Newsies Crushed as Bulls Attack" Crutchie's calling me, Dumb crip's just too damn slow.
Guys are fightin', bleedin' fallin' thanks to good ole' Captain Jack. Captain Jack just wants to close his eyes and go.
Let me go. Far away.
Somewhere they won't ever find me, and tomorrow won't remind me of today.
And the city's finally sleepin'.
And the moon looks old and grey.
I get on a train that's bound for Santa Fe.
And I'm gone. And I'm done.
No more running. No more lying.
No more fat old man denying me my pay. Just a moon so big and yellow, it turns night right into day.
Dreams come true. Yeah they do.
In Santa Fe.
Where does it say you gotta live and die here?
Where does it say a guy can't catch a break?
Why should you only take what you're given?
Why should you spend your whole life living trapped where there ain't no future. Even at 17.
Breaking your back for someone else's sake.
If the life don't seem to suit you, how about a change of scene?
Far from the lousy headlines and the deadlines in between.
Santa Fe, my old friend.
I can't spend my whole life dreaming. Though I know that's all I seem inclined to do.
I ain't getting any younger. And I wanna start brand new.
I need space. And fresh air. Let 'em laugh in my face. I don't care.
Save my place. I'll be there.
Just be real is all I'm asking.
Not some painting in my head.
Cause I'm dead if I can't count on you today.
I got nothing if I ain't got
Santa Fe.
Thanks a lot!
I'm absolutely mesmerized by how Jeremy says moon
The way he yells "Captain Jack just wants to close his eyes and go!" makes me just want to sob and hug him and tell him everything will be okay.
"Saaaave my place!"....ugh, brought me to tears! Love this so much!!
i could listen to jeremy sing this song ALL day. the emotion he puts into it is amazing
"I can't spend my whole life dreamin, though I know that's all I seem inclined to do.." bye

His emotion in this song is so AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this song so much. I cannot fathom how much I feel when I hear it.
I just want to cry every time I hear this song. His emotion breaks my heart, it's beautiful!!!!
I knew this was Jeremy Jordan.I didn't have to look at my suggestions.......I may listen to The Last Five Years on repeat sometimes.
this song and Movin' Too Fast
Same.
This song gives me chills every time. I could listen to Jeremy Jordan’s voice all day
I’m new to this musical and DAMN
Someone give Jack a hug for me, k?
just saw this in theaters courtesy of Fathom Events.
Have not seen a filmed performance that spectacular since Memphis.
raisin a little hell there aren't we jack kelly? #bonnieandclyde
OH MY GOD
+Fidddle2Pie RIGHT OMG
Omg😂😂😂
AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
Yes!!!
That damn last high note screwed my audition 😂
Still a great show, and the guy who did get Jack did way better than I could have
I want... to sing this song... but the LAST NOTE.... AAAAAAAA
I cannot explain the over-excited spasms I started having when I immediately realized that this is Jeremy and not Corey. I love Corey, but Jeremy just really, really gets this just right.
Jack:"wheres to say you have to live and die here"
Clyde:"we werent made to live and die in Texas!"
hmmmmmm
OH MY GOD!
Conspiracyyyyyyy
super glad I got to watch this when it was still on Broadway... amazing
Can't stop listening to this!!!!!!
Who else became obsessed with newsies because of the movie?

I was in "Newsies" at my local community theater this year and it just ended a week ago. I came back to this song today, and I'm already missing getting to hear it every night📰🥲.
I love Jeremy Jordan in everything he does... his voice is perfection.
as a new mexican this song makes me very happy
also i just freaking love this song it's gorgeous and sad and jeremy jordan is incredible
Evan Williams:
Corey Cott is without a doubt just as good as Jeremy. They are both incredibly talented so don't hate on one. Both are perfect for the part and sing so well.
IMHO Jeremy is better but Corey is still AMAZING
I prefer Corey over Jeremy and that's just my opinion. I don't hate they are both very talented men.
When I learned that Jeremy Jordan voiced Varian I couldn't unhear it so here we are
The note he sings on "Fe" at the end 😍😍
The amount of times this has given me goosebumps- I- I cant
I physically and mentally can’t.
Anyone here in 2020? I'm obsessed with this musical.
God damn, the newsies soundtrack is amazing... Sooo happy we doing this for a spring play at my school!!
Listening to this on my way to Santa Fe
God I miss this show. Being Jack was honestly might have been the most fun I’ve ever had in a production. Back that with the awesome and supportive cast I had and I’ll never forget this song.
I played Les years ago in a theatre class production I was doing. The show was only one scene, but to this day this story remains one of my favorites. I just wish I'd gotten the experience of doing the entire play. It was a lot of fun
Assassination classroo. 😊😊
I make myself tear up by accident when i lip-sync this hardcore
Oh, thank goodness I'm not the only one that does that!
One of my all time favorite songs!
Davey needs a song to himself! #justicefordavey
To quote Davey, "what's Santa Fe got that new York ain't? Tarantulas?" #daveyisthebest
13k tenors frothing at the mouth 311 basses and baritones crying
i really need to check this musical out
update: only listened to the first song and this and now i'm trash
every song is amazing, but songs like this and 'the world will know' have so much energy and are so outstanding that they bring tears to my eyes
Well
I didn't know my volume was up all the way until "GO" scared the absolute crap out of me
Just saw this last week at the Pantages theatre in Hollywood!! It was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to hear. I haven't set in foot in the Pantages theatre since Wicked was there ten years ago. I mostly see my shows at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. But I'm excited for the filmed performance to come to movie theatres this month.
GUYS I HIT THE LAST NOTES IM SHOOKETH
dont you love it when you play a song on repeat so much that you end up remembering all the words without trying to
I love this musical. In contrast to others, the plot is pretty simple and heart- warming and wrenching at the same time!:)
Wow, I wasn't prepared for this song. Definitely the most emotional song on Broadway!
Listen to words fail. You will sob. Just know the context first
There is so much emotion in this song...
Teacher: You can't see sounds.
