Mounting Patriot Lights is a royal pain. Can’t beat the price though.

My ground wire fell out of the fixture in the ceiling while I was disconnecting the old light. Where was it connected to? It just has a hooked end...

The power line coming into the junction box should have a ground wire in it. There should be a black (hot), white (neutral) and an uninsulated (ground). often times the ground is screwed to the back of the junction box if it’s a metal box. That would ground the whole fixture. If it’s a plastic box, then the ground should connect to either the ground wire of the fixture (if there is one) or to a metal screw or something metal about the fixture.

So my landlord bought a fixture and I know how to install basic lights, I was going to install it. I’m completely confused! Was hoping to still do it myself so will get done faster. It’s a brand new patriot light fixture but It has basic white wire, black wire and it has a copper one AND random Black one with a hoop? I’ve never seen anything like it before. Usually u just have white, black, and ground. Was wondering if anyone had knowledge on it. I looked at their website, no info. the instructions explain NOTHING only what you with a normal light with white, black and ground! Doesn’t explain the random wire with a hoop? lol I’m lost.

It sounds like it’s another ground to go on the mounting screws. But it’s tough to say without looking at it.
