    Keep coming back to this video. Just love the song, the banjo and the whole idea of recording on a train. Just want to say thanks, Tim for the inspiration you give us with your fantastic music! I have had so much joy trying to learn some of the songs you are playing. THANKS!

    My favourite of Tim's versions of this great "Sacred Harp" dong on
    RUclips.

  • @justforever96
    @justforever96 9 лет назад

    This is played and sung even better than the other video! And it even features two of my favorite things, trains and the Sacred Harp! (Although the same is true of the very apt nature shots in most of your videos).

    Gulp! I'm hosting a house concert (in my humble garden) for Tim in July 2015, when I see some of the amazing places that he has played it, I pray he won't be too disappointed with the surroundings. But I can guarantee he will get a warm welcome.

      Ha ha! Well, if your garden is humbler than a second class Polish train car I can't wait to see it. I'm sure it'll be great! Cheers in advance...

      batfancy Well I wasn't expecting a reply! There is a thriving acoustic/folk scene around here, and your visit is already eagerly awaited. We want to try & get things as right as we can for you. A number of musician friends will be coming specially for your event, the party will probably go on very late (full moon that night), and we'll all be really pleased to see you. Cheers, Theo (Kettering, UK).

    Amazing, what a coincidence! I am just in Jaroslaw, two days after Tim's great concert and interesting seminar. Just for curiosity, I made a RUclips search for Tim Eriksen, and just found this video. I made some videos myself here and will upload from home.

      I'd love to. I may be in Serbia in November, so...not so far away. Any ideas about venues? I'll pass them on to my agent.

    • @mbkirova
      @mbkirova 7 лет назад

      let me have a think. I'm resident on the Danube during summer and not much out this way (except for Bucharest, but I don't have contacts there) but in term time live in a university town not far from Sofia and that's where the better venues would be. I'll check with an Irish friend who seems to know everyone and see if he has some suggestions.

    I do most of it myself, but take advantage of whoever is around (see "more info" for more info). It's always interesting to see what other random people think is interesting and how they use the camera.

    Certain verses of the song are the same as "I'm Going Home" that are often sung by Sacred Harp singers! Cool stuff man.

    Thanks for taking us along, Tim. Great song which your shy (about being photographed anyway) compartment mates were enjoying. Just how many languages do you handle anyway?

    @blueridger28 Thanks- I've heard people call it sawmill but I don't really know what that means.

    Wonderful video, a true slice out of time and the freezing of a moment. Tim, did you set up all the video yourself or did you have a helper?

  • @TimEriksenMusicVideo

    The trains are great! Likewise the people and the food.

  • @reviewandreflection

    Man, I wish I was on that train.
    Mr. Eriksen, I notice that you seem to have a very distinctive way of playing, is there a particular name for it? I am a (beginning) student of both mandolin and guitar and would love to capture the raw sound which you put into your music. Is there a particular name for "your" style?

    • @TimEriksenMusicVideo
      @TimEriksenMusicVideo  10 лет назад +1

      I've just always enjoyed experimenting and picking stuff up from here and there. I guess over time it turned into a style, but it doesn't have a name. Unless you mean the basic banjo technique here, which is frailing or clawhammer- lots of instruction videos kicking around I'm sure. Thanks for the note!

  • @TimEriksenMusicVideo
    @TimEriksenMusicVideo  12 лет назад

    It's eEABD...I think. If you're in regular major tuning you drop the little string down and bring the next two up a whole step.

  • @QRS666

    Can anoyne tell me what the lyrics for the first verse is? fa a sola, sola la etc. Is it just like "la la la "etc. or does it mean something? I know the rest of the lyrics btw.

    superb lad superb!!!!! love their faces blasted by the strange american dude who is like no american dude they have ever seen on the telly !

  • @TimEriksenMusicVideo
    @TimEriksenMusicVideo  12 лет назад

    Only we don't sing do, re or ti. So in the old Anglo system it's just "fa sol la fa sol la mi fa" or, as it is here, in minor "la mi fa sol la fa sol la."

  • @QRS666
    @QRS666 13 лет назад

    @silasbanjo Ahh haha! Dohh! Do I feel stupid now :) Always the easiest obvious sollution that is the correct one. Instead I was thinking of "tra la la" or even a religious meaning etc. haha. Thanks for clearning that up :)

    You are a damn good amasador of the US. IF there were more people like you out there playin for the world the US might not look like a bunch of Assholes. Very fine playin. Is that what Clarence Ashley would call "Sawmill" tune?

    i cant understand how you ply so fast and accurately like that. i can kinda double thumb at that speed but its very inconsistent. you have to be the best banjo player of the last century. your expression makes it look like this song isnt challenging for you at this speed. i couldent imagine what clawhammer song you couldent play on banjo. if a song was too hard for you id never be able to play it! been a t the banjo for a year got my banjo for lik 30 bucks from a fried. i had to repair the neck. its one of those cheap 100 dollar mulucky banjos. i put nylgut strings on it and made a few minor adjustments to the thead tension and it really sounds like one of the really old time banjos in tone. its amazing how a person can take a cheap instrument and pull sound out of it that would rival the high end stuff. i remember you once said the same thing about your violin that it was inexpensive and very loud and yet you still make it sound better and more old time than any other player ive heard. you are definitely a virtuoso at many instruments!
