When designing a kitchen, you clearly have so much to think about. You have the flooring, the cabinets, the appliances, the hardware, the countertops, the lighting, the accessories and much more.
The number one question is, how do you pick a countertop? We're going to start with the main questions you have to ask yourself when designing your kitchen.
We'll jump right into pros and cons of each type of countertop material your budget, what your requirements are. And hopefully all of that information will help guide you on how to pick the right countertop for your kitchen.
You always want to decide on function first. Function should always be your top priority. When selecting pretty much any material, especially for your kitchen countertop, you first need to make an assessment of how you and your family use your kitchen.
The second question you have to ask yourself, which might even be the most important question, is, what is your budget? I mean, what can you afford?
Number three is maintenance. How much maintenance can you handle? Every single type of material comes with this long list of demand.
And lastly, what is your style? I mean, what's your vibe? What's your aesthetic? I knew the minute you step into the stone yard I absolutely wanted to go with an exotic granite.

Thank you so much for an informative video! Just wanted to check once again with you regarding Quartz countertop. You had told that it's not heat resistant. Apart from that I am worried about turmeric stains on quartz. It has to be used very carefully, isn't it?? Which are the good brands for quartz countertop?
Commonly, if a very hot pots are placed on quartz, you will see kind of discolored ring (shape of the pan) on the countertop. Quartz in general is non-porous, they in general repel scratches and stain. If the quality of the quartz is poor, then turmeric, as it has a vibrant yellow hue, can leave lasting marks on it.

Sir quartz or Italian marble,which is best for premium look?
I personally prefer marble as it has plenty of natural patterns and veiny look. But it requires special care. If you have any display counter or island Counter, then marble is better. If you are a hard user, then quartz is better in my opinion.
Terrazzo is beautiful! But what’re pros and cons?
Terrazzo is bit expensive, sturdy. material. Its generally not porous as we pour the composite and seal it. But requires resealing over a period of time. Plus it doesn't retain heat, so in winter it gets cold. If you coat with epoxy, this is the best material, very trendy, classy and looks very seamless. Its my favorite too.
Currently I have designed an 16 feet long office reception counter with terrazzo & it is a seamless pour. Hope contractor does a good job.

Porcelain is one of the good choice because of its durability, hardness and resistance to heat. Porcelain is fired around 2500⁰ F so it is extremely heat resistant. You won't need to worry about damaging the surface if you put a hot pan directly on top of it.
Cracking is only a big issue during the handling, moving, and cutting of very large slabs. Ofcourse thickness matters. It may have bends if large slabs were preferred. It is also prone to scratches and cracks. That being said, almost everything is prone to scratching and cracking to some extent. It depends on how the user is handling the countertop.
In terms of material and installation cost, porcelain slabs offer a more affordable price. Ofcouse depends on the locality as well.
Porcelain is a low porous material, so it does not absorb any moisture; as a result, it also means that porcelain is very stain-resistant.
