    You don't need travel insurance until you need it. I didn't even think about it until about 5 years ago and we have been on over 20 cruises. It was ironic that the first time I purchased travel insurance, I needed it. Came down with appendicitis in Cozumel. I was transported to the hospital there and had emergency surgery. I was in the hospital for 3 days. Between the insurance from the Carnival and extra 3rd party insurance, ALL expenses were covered including travel back to the U.S.

    OMG this has been so informative. My Hubby works for a big tech company and they have excellent health insurance that is covered in foreign countries BUT you made that point that many hospitals outside the U. S will NOT except our health insurance.. I DID NOT KNOW THAT. Guess we will be purchasing travel insurance since I have health issues. Thank so much ❤❤❤❤❤

    I had a bag delayed - it took 8 days of a 14 day vacation (most on a cruise) for the bag to reach me. Between my travel insurance and what the airline covered, I got back all of what I spent on cloths and sundries.

    Considering all of the weather and political issues affecting cruises, travel insurance is a smart move.

    Good solid information. I had first-hand experience last May. I was taken off our cruise ship and had emergency surgery in Iceland. I was in the hospital there for 18 days. My hospital bill alone was $55,000. The 3-minute ambulance ride from the pier to the hospital was over $600. Thank goodness we had purchased travel insurance.

    Great video. I usually get the annual plan from Allianz, but this year I’m going to try out Travel Insured International’s annual plan which has a lower premium but also allows you to add additional coverage for every trip you take during the year of coverage. I like having that flexibility and I will no longer add the cruise line insurance for that extra coverage which I agree can be pricey.

    Well done Sharon! This is a topic you don't see covered. We've been on two cruises where the ship has had to detour for a med evacuation. Both were on the longer Journeys cruise itineraries.
    Once we had to turn around and go back to Honolulu for an evac after leaving Hawaii the night before. The other time the ship detoured to San Diego on our way back from Hawaii instead of evacuating in Ensenada, our last port. I have no idea what the cost to detour a ship and process an evac would be, but watching the process and all the officials involved was amazing. People onboard were saying 10's of 1000's just to port the ship in San Diego. Then on top of that there were a bunch of officials and paperwork probably because we hadn't ported in a required international country yet.

    Daughter got sick on the NCL Prima 30 Jan 2024. Total cost was $5966 for the care for flu and fever of 103.7. Have travel insurance but must file claim with her medical insurance before the travel will pay anything. Is this normal. Great info thanks.

    • @SharonatSeaTravel
      @SharonatSeaTravel  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Roger, that situation could be unique to the plan you got, but I'm sure the Travel Insurance would love to have the medical insurance pay before they cough up any money. Hopefully, either way, you are not out of pocket all that money. Hope your daughter is feeling better and will be ready to cruise again soon!!!

    Broke my tooth and permanent dental bridge on ROCK HARD bread the first 20 minutes on Royal Caribbean before voyage even began. Had to exit vessel and take $220 Uber back to relatives house to get my car. Royale Caribbean wound up saying we will do nothing because you have the travel insurance. AON was a deflect/ delay/ deny joke that I wouldn't wish on anyone. The dental coverage is only about 3 sentences on the written policy and is vague but written in such a way that the dentist would basically have to pull up with his bag of equipment and dental chair in the back of a pickup truck and park right next to the cruise ship and do the $2500 dollars worth of emergency dental work and you would have to have a pina colada in one hand and a swimming pool snorkel in the other or else the work did not get done "while on the cruise" Will never use Royal Caribbean nor any "travel scamsurance" ever again

    Can I purchase cruise insurance just before I take my cruise?

    • @SharonatSeaTravel
      @SharonatSeaTravel  5 месяцев назад +1

      You can get it just before your cruise with a 3rd party company. Some Cruise Lines require you to purchase before final payment, others don't. Thanks for watching!!!
