It wasn't even mentioned beyond causing a death, but I believe it was Alex who tried - and failed to survive - pickaxing a steam geyser. While the blast from them is able to kill any dwarf from full (except for gunner due to his 50% explosive damage resistance mod, he gets to live in pain), it takes a moment to go off when the geyser is destroyed, which does in fact allow for the geyser to be completely safely destroyed without dealing any damage. This is possible with either power attacks or normal pickaxe swings, though the timing can be difficult to get right. Might be helpful to know so you can ensure they're somewhat less likely to get someone killed when it matters.
