  • Trills? What's that? "The trill is a musical ornament consisting of a rapid alternation between two adjacent notes, usually a semitone or tone apart". This is an older video I did back in 2013. My production quality has improved since then, but perhaps you may still find it useful.
    This is a great thing to practice, because it will strengthen your hand and fingers, and improve you coordination. It also sounds really cool. 😁

    Hey,Just exactly what I was looking for.Very Nice .I've had the same thoughts about Gary's thrills /positioning/ and finger choices and these are all important valid examples to know if you want to learn to use them - and for me, I always prefer a 2nd opinion to cement it in. .

    Thank you, This is so useful, and makes me want to practice! I'm struggling to get it clean though, without the sound of the B string when I take my finger off it. How to stop that..?

    • @lelandgaunt7130
      @lelandgaunt7130 Год назад

      Slow down. Mute with your picking hand or your index finger of fretting hand. Every single issue with guitar playing is fixed by slowing down. If you can't get it clean or in time, you're playing too fast. If you can only do 8th notes at 40bpm and it doesn't sound good, you're playing too fast for your current level. Takes years to get trills up to speed. It's not just the trilling, it's synchronizing the picking with the trills. Getting these licks to sound right takes strength and accuracy. Use a metronome only to learn the timing and whatever tempo you're working with, then turn it off and use your internal metronome. Foot, head, etc etc

      @@Dolphinstreets watching your content it’s clear this stand contributes a lot to the longevity of the lesson as a teach you get to focus on tiring out as a teacher and not because of the weight of the instrument. What do I know I’m am amateur.

    Robert I have trouble performing a simple trill (as at 2.00 point in the video) performed on two strings.
    It is such an important ability to have and I think I neglected this over the years and want to put this right if I can
    Do you have any recommendations as to improve my speed here?
    I can do extremely fast 3 note per string runs but 2 note per string patterns , and I am so slow at them!
    I have tried to do it slow with a metronome but I think I need to do some other exercise as it doesnt seem to help much
    Any help would be appreciated.

    • @Dolphinstreets
      @Dolphinstreets  2 года назад +1

      Try to be relaxed in you fingers, don't push too hard or fingers get tired. Practice only on one string as well. A light touch is necessary, so it helps to have a tone with plenty of gain.

      @@Dolphinstreets I grew up playing late 70s 80s rock into the 90s I recently did a class with some my kids on tension and release and used Gary as the primary example and notice that he does basically only use three fingers but to be honest with you there is no reason for your pinky to be just as fast on hammer-ons and pull offs!" You just practice one finger at a time you really get what you put into it thank you for the lesson and have a great day my friend
