Saw him live in a 2009 and expected a bit of a lower key blues performance. He totally took the roof off. Blazingly loud with great feel and so articulate in his playing.

I played his live version of parrisienne walkways in my car everyday on my way to work. I'll never get tired of them. It's like listening to it for the 1st time everytime.

What a Great Guy and friend Neville Martin was to Gary Moore , Why has it been so quite since Gary's Death he was just as important as Brian May , Slash and Jeff Beck , Eric Clapton etc . No documentaries about him , not even half hour on BBC about his life , I don't think there has been any tribute gigs for him , if any of the above Pass Away we will be inundated with News and Tributes possibly Films to. He needs to be recognised . R.I.P.
i listened to Gary here and watched his absolute mastery of the stringed instrument .i applied what he said now and from now forward because it makes brilliant and perfect sense .im suddenly better and more aware of making notes count instead of counting notes. god,i miss Gary Moore

There must be millions of pretty decent guitarists out there, me and you included, who despair of not ever getting our sound together, yet part of playing is finding our own unique sound, bringing our own thing to the table. I now firmly believe it's far better to play something really beautifully well, instead of trying to be the best or fastest or most articulate etc. Those things come with practise, but I want to make beautiful music first. 😎🎸

If you do not relax and spend less energy executing each movement as you play faster you can't reach higher tempos, but will level out at some point and then tire out. That's like a given of fast playing. Besides notes played at speed do not necessarily sound good if played simply as a faster version of the same way of playing that note at a lower speed.
exactly, it seems he even wants to shred the slower blues stuff, also the way he attacks the string makes him look and sound more like a heavy rock player than your gentle blues soul ;)

My brother went to see thin lizzy in the 70s. Brian Robertson had been in a fight and couldn't perform. My bruv thought the gig was gonna be cancelled but no, they had a replacement at short notice. MR Gary moore. What a stand in!!
It was bob geldof who said that gary's playing is so "exceptionally beautiful". These words got stuck in my head and I still think thats what its all about in his playing. Each time I saw a video of him, he just explodes with ideas, variations and notes, because he just loves to make it sound sweet or sour, right for his taste at that specific moment ... thats what he was mastering perfectly.
Gary was incredible, but that sustain comes from his equipment. It’s nothing he did, except to make it part of one of his signature songs. I can do it, too, and - trust me - I’m no virtuoso.
@@SK-kb2wc - It’s a combination of gear, starting with the wood the guitar is made of, pick-ups, a saturated tube amp and most likely a compressor or sustainer of some kind. The proximity of pick-ups to the amp can also be a factor. I’ve got a couple of videos of Gary playing Parisienne Walkways and that one long note dies far sooner than it should and he has to hit the string again. If it was all Gary’s technique that allowed him to sustain that note for so long on most occasions, that would never happen.

I've always had trouble placing musicians at a specific "number" in terms of great to better to best I honestly cannot say that "so and so" is the second best of all time and so on but it saddens me so much to see one of the greatest guitarists ever to have been and still be so underrated. I sincerely believe that Gary is easily, and I mean easily among the Top Ten best guitarists ever and it's so sad...believe me that if he'd been born American it would not be the case....bit he was Irish so that's how it works which is sad.
Being kinda young and dumb. I only found out about Gary Moore 6 months ago or so and the first month I didn't know he died. that was a very sad day. He was such an amazing guitarist and his songs speak to me like no other. He inspires me to play guitar again and stop playing metal music and go by head first into the blues. I want to write a song inspired by that sad day called all my heroes are dead.
Oh man this guy was a master of all styles on the guitar. I'm just discovering his music. I thought Gary was just blues player but then I saw some of his 80s concert footage.

Moore's playing can make me cry, sweep my legs away, mindblow me, inspire me, make me angry and happy all in a matter of minutes. I LOVE his music! Hendrix is the best ever, but the choice between a gig with one of them Moore will be the one for me.
Explorers and flying V have absolutley anazing middle postion tones which make them great for blues and thats why you see blues players using explorers and V's quite often . Its the middle position tones of those guitars that appeal to blues artists.

last time i saw him was 2003 7:40 monsters of rock tour last two shows Glasgow Scotland live cd and Newcastle got the band to sign a dressing room sign that was on the dressing room door in Scotland also got a Gary Moore Pic from Garys gtr tech vary cool.ynt was the opening act then gary and white snake was the headliner.gary opened his set with shapes of things the classic yard birds tune r.i.p.gary was second to none killer tone and great feeling straight from the heart so much emotion.clapton said gary was the best gtr ever comings from him that's quite a complement check out evil love on the jim capoldi tribute at the round house 2007 he only played that one song and brought the house down with it thanks for all the great music over the years you rock buddy cheers to you my friend you are the best
He was amazing! If you put the speed setting on .25 you can see how he's playing these incredibly fast licks. 90% or more is done with just two fingers, his index and middle finger. In the passage that starts at 7:15 I counted only three times he used his ring finger. It's a bit like Django. The middle finger is the largest and strongest finger and many guitarists don't tap into what it can add to their repertoire.
This fellow was one brilliant musician, we've enjoyed his music for decades and it's a big and sad loss that we aren't gonna listen to all those songs that was to come,,,, noone like this will appear ever.

That sophisticated "big wave"surfer sound is still going strong...talk about when you need to Chill- If you listen to 1971 LOVE, Brian Mclean mastered the spanish /rock thing as his mother was a (where you shake beads together- cast??? and (OK? I have many idols who play Gibsons, but Gary is the reason I got a Les Paul. It sure sounds great, but now the challenge is to try and play like the man himself which is an impossible yet fun task. Truly one of a kind.
Once things had soured between Brian Robertson and Phil Lynott in Thin Lizzy, there were several great guitarists who stood briefly in Robbo’s shoes. Snowy White was ludicrously good and Midge Ure’s heroic musicianship should never be forgotten, but I do think Gary was perfectly match. At the time, Scott Gorham said of him “Gary is a guitarist so good that if he gave it up for 10 years and I practised every day, when he took it up again he’d still be better than me!”

Explorers and flying V have absolutley anazing middle postion tones which make them great for blues and thats why you see blues players using explorers and V's quite often . Its the middle position tones of those guitars that appeal to blues artists.

last time i saw him was 2003 7:40 monsters of rock tour last two shows Glasgow Scotland live cd and Newcastle got the band to sign a dressing room sign that was on the dressing room door in Scotland also got a Gary Moore Pic from Garys gtr tech vary cool.ynt was the opening act then gary and white snake was the headliner.gary opened his set with shapes of things the classic yard birds tune r.i.p.gary was second to none killer tone and great feeling straight from the heart so much emotion.clapton said gary was the best gtr ever comings from him that's quite a complement check out evil love on the jim capoldi tribute at the round house 2007 he only played that one song and brought the house down with it thanks for all the great music over the years you rock buddy cheers to you my friend you are the best

He was amazing! If you put the speed setting on .25 you can see how he's playing these incredibly fast licks. 90% or more is done with just two fingers, his index and middle finger. In the passage that starts at 7:15 I counted only three times he used his ring finger. It's a bit like Django. The middle finger is the largest and strongest finger and many guitarists don't tap into what it can add to their repertoire.

I have many idols who play Gibsons, but Gary is the reason I got a Les Paul. It sure sounds great, but now the challenge is to try and play like the man himself which is an impossible yet fun task. Truly one of a kind.
Once things had soured between Brian Robertson and Phil Lynott in Thin Lizzy, there were several great guitarists who stood briefly in Robbo’s shoes. Snowy White was ludicrously good and Midge Ure’s heroic musicianship should never be forgotten, but I do think Gary was perfectly match. At the time, Scott Gorham said of him “Gary is a guitarist so good that if he gave it up for 10 years and I practised every day, when he took it up again he’d still be better than me!”

Yes sir. Speed with definition, clarity and intention..Gary was just untouchable when he went into pentatonic domination. I can't think of any other guitarist being able to do that.
