I've played for a lot of bands. I've been playing professionally for 25 years in the Boston and Dallas areas. Now, I mostly play local gigs in the Boston and Providence area, teach, and record in my home studio and elsewhere. I have never played in DC. I'd love to someday. You guys bring the energy and vibe, for sure!
Cool interpretation of GoGo! Not much out there on how to play the rhythms. I would definitely suggest a pair of jr. congas to get the authentic sound. The rhythm you are playing on the congas is close to the beat played on Roll Call by Rare Essence. The timbale pattern is also from the same band on their song the One on One. Here are some artists/bands to listen to: Chuck Brown, Trouble Funk, E.U., Rare Essence, Junkyard Band, Backyard Band, Northeast Groovers, The Huck-A-Bucks, TOB, and Black Alley.
Thank you so much! I was hoping to get some good feedback. Much appreciated. ... I've been listening to Chuck Brown and Trouble Funk, so thank you for the other suggestions, too.
I agree. The bass drum was something that troubled the mix throughout the whole project. I have since acquired a 47 FET condenser mic for the outside of my kick drum to capture more of the boom in the drum.
@@RhythmNotes I see. However, your strategy of using a condenser mic to reduce the boom is great. In Nigeria where I am, drummers often pad the membrane of the bass drum with a towel of moderate thickness this muffles the beat there by giving a more tailored boom.👍
Keep GoGoing Dude !I got heavily into Trouble Funk in the 80's & this rhythmic breakdown surely is cool.Thanx! oh those Bro's were heavily into Roto Toms[ if you break down the underlying rhythm of Harry Styles Watermelon sugar it is A simplified Gogo beat See ya
Off a bit. Ballpark tho. Nice attempt tho. Loosen up on the congos. Loosen up on the cowbells. Adjust your rests (ghost notes) on the congos so that they fit in the mix simpler.... Sounds forced. Go-Go has a groove.
Nice too know , that GoGo is being recognized.
It’s great stuff!
As a Go-Go percussionist, I can say you did a good interpretation. It's all about the swing.
Thank you. I appreciate that!
I grew up in DC, you didn’t misrepresent anything. It sounds good 💯. I like how you broke it down and started slowed.
Thanks. That means a lot! 🎶
Thank you for the breakdown...I too just learning the gogo culture
That's great joey! Thanks for sharing. Really cool stuff.
The arrangement I think is well balanced where the Gogo beat is accompanied by Cuban percussion style arrangement. I like how you accomplished this.
I appreciate your feedback!
Nice job, I'm from DC and grew up with GOGO. My first show was '77, EU, and still listen to every single day.
Thank you very much! There's so much more to learn from GOGO.
Outstanding!!! I was the one who asked u. Great job it is America form of music. Keep up the great work. GO GO CRANKIN
Thanks! I’m glad you like it.
Thanks Kevin so much it's great :)
You're very welcome!
Heck Yes! Sounds good

@@RhythmNotes You’re welcome!
great. I would love to see one on patterns used by Cyril Neville (New Orleans conga player)
Working on it. I’m working on Angola Bound, One Helluva Nerve, and Cabbage Alley. These three cover Cyril’s conga rhythm style.
Very nice. Please do a New Orleans conga and cowbell video also. Cyril Neville!!
Can you provide me some reference tracks to work with?
Congratulations. The arrangement and blend was very good. I wonder how nice it might be for an addition of a deep bass drum. 🙂👍

Definitely a good start. Needs a bit more precision and swing, but a great effort for the first try!
Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. I've been listening to some Trouble Funk. After you mentioned toto toms, I listened to Drop the Bomb and can definitely hear them.

Thanks for the feedback. I could not agree more.
