This is so real lmao. I saw all the movies on the iceberg and was like.... surely there can't be that many... turns out my idea of what a found footage film EVEN IS, is not the same as the person who made this iceberg 😂
Honestly hearing you mention Cannibal Holocaust brought me all the way back to when I first found your channel on my lunchbreak working overnights at a hospital lmaooo
omg, I actually have a bonkers fact for the dyatlov pass incident! They solved what happened in late 2010s thanks to...... Frozen's snow physics engine! The engine was so accurate that they recreated the set up for the camp and found out that because of how the snow surrounding the camp was positioned, it was just the right set up for the camp to be very suddenly covered overnight. Not a proper avalanche, but like, a mini one. So the campers were asleep, a few foot of snow is suddenly on top of their camp, and they very quickly succumb to hypothermia, they crawl out from under the snow and do the crazy things hypothermia makes you do.
I think there was also proof that the specific way the snow banks on the mountains worked - the shape of the slope, lack of trees or ledges - was also linked to another area with the same landscape where the same thing happened, with one survivor? If I remember correctly that part was theorised to be due to the sound/echo chamber of low frequency sound causing issues with people's inner cochlear and disorienting them. Might be wrong about that part though, but I think I remember hearing that being a related theory that recently came up.
Lake Mungo gets better each time you watch it. It is truly shocking how good it is, and how haunting (ha ha). It makes sense that such a film has a big ol Twin Peaks homage, because it has a similar dream like quality at times. Also, the way the film uses your own media literacy to enhance its story is incredible.
I normally just read synopses of films when im curious what happens, but im so intrigued by how people are alluding to how this scene affected them that i want to watch it. I dont know for sure if i have the nerves for it anymore though

The Tunnel perfectly mimics the style of news reporting that I grew up with in 2010's Australia so it has a specially place in my heart. I lived in Sydney so it was weird just seeing the door they entered through near central. Also The Bay my beloved, glad to see my taste in movies validated.
I love pranking friends and family with mockumentaries, and I’ll say Lake Mungo was my most successful showing. One group of friends were totally bought in so I let the prank run the rest of the night until I broke the news… they were relieved but so sad at the same time lol
You talking about digital cameras reminded me of the fact that the director of Men Behind the Sun went to a film school that couldn't afford equipment so he had to learn filmmaking entirely through theory. Guy just saw movies in theatres repeatedly while taking notes.
Yu-gi-oh! being referenced twice in a found footage iceberg video from Nyx Fears is not something I was expecting. Plus the good boy! More dog clips next time, if it's not a bother.
I went through a phase in college where I watched every single found footage horror movie I could find on Netflix. This video was made for me, thank you so much.

I came here to see what you had to say about behind the mask the rise of Leslie Vernon because it's one of my all time favourites because it's so silly at parts and I love that about it, the fact it plays around with all the typical slasher tropes is really fun, I'm genuinely so happy that it was on the iceberg because I feel that it's very underrated, I honestly probably wouldn't have found it or even watched it without the RUclips channel Dead Meat doing a kill count on it
May, you always make this kind of content (icebergs) more fun than it has any right to be. I look forward to every video on this channel! I really loved the new song Gasoline too!
Fantastic video as always! You’re editing and humor is wonderful, I love putting your videos on while I sew :). Also holy shit Trevor Henderson?? His art is so good, I can’t wait to see it paired with your book!
It has been a while since I saw a video of yours pop into my sub box, but I love both icebergs and found footage so this is going to be a treat to catch up with

So excited for the new book covers loved fluids and reading girl flesh currently. Everything you put out has been amazing from music to books to videos ❤
I find it super interesting that you found Lake Mungo realistic as well. It got to me in a way not a lot of horror movies have, but I chalked it up to being aussie and that movie looking like exactly the kind of program you’d come across randomly turning on the TV here. Like, the people in it could be people I know in real life. If it has that effect on people outside Australia too then they did an even more amazing job on it than I originally thought!
The gallows being the last on this list is so funny to me. I remember seeing it in theaters and literally forgot about it until now. I suggest watching it with a group of friends who loves making fun of movies
I adore your videos! Your vocal cadence scratches my brain and I genuinely enjoy getting the chance to halfway experience some of this media without causing a panic attack for myself
i hardly, if ever, have watched any found footage movies, and its not like i don't go out of my way to avoid them i just don't know where to start (the only movie ive seen so far from this series is one cut of the dead - and again, NOT really a found footage) so watching your videos and hearing your thoughts give me a pretty good idea of which movies to watch so thank you as always May Leitz !
Im actually kind of devastated that Savageland isn’t included on this list. It is genuinely one of the greatest found footage movies ive ever seen; it’s more along the mockumentary lines as well. I recommend it to literally everybody

@@AKeNeN I liked it! Still have some questions, but I really liked the documentary style. Amazing how the story just kept getting MORE nuts lmao
Thank you for feeding my Letterboxd watchlist. Love you May!!
Your hair looks great as always May
I came here to see what you had to say about behind the mask the rise of Leslie Vernon because it's one of my all time favourites because it's so silly at parts and I love that about it, the fact it plays around with all the typical slasher tropes is really fun, I'm genuinely so happy that it was on the iceberg because I feel that it's very underrated, I honestly probably wouldn't have found it or even watched it without the RUclips channel Dead Meat doing a kill count on it
May, you always make this kind of content (icebergs) more fun than it has any right to be. I look forward to every video on this channel! I really loved the new song Gasoline too!
I’m so glad that my obsessive rewatching/commenting has finally paid off!
Gizmo is already a famous internet dog in my household. Also I got notifications on for your videos and I've never regretted it
Fantastic video as always! You’re editing and humor is wonderful, I love putting your videos on while I sew :). Also holy shit Trevor Henderson?? His art is so good, I can’t wait to see it paired with your book!
Love love LOVE it, thank you for dropping new music!
It has been a while since I saw a video of yours pop into my sub box, but I love both icebergs and found footage so this is going to be a treat to catch up with
It's soooooo good May. Love this vid and can't wait for the next one
nyx ily i’ve been watching your acct for 8+ years now and always love to see u upload !!!
i’m also louis from family guy
You make some of the only videos that I consistently recommend to a wide range of people. I'm not sure if that proves you're an awesome content creator or if it indicates I'm kind of messed up.
0:07 Was that a joshua schmidt video in the background???
It is!
I knew I heard yugioh terms there
So excited for the new book covers loved fluids and reading girl flesh currently. Everything you put out has been amazing from music to books to videos ❤
I think you just planned out my week with all these recommendations.
I suggest watching it with a group of friends who loves making fun of movies
i can’t wait to get the new cover of your book!
Agreed! It's such a clever spin on the traditional found footage setup!
