    Okay so Friday the 13th disturbs me for one reason and one reason only: they actually killed that snake in the bedroom/cabin scene earlier in the film. Brutally. The story of it is extremely sad, with the snake's handler apparently screaming and begging them not to do it. Genuinely soul-crushing to learn about in a way that very few other things are. They killed that guy's pet (?) right in front of him while he begged them not to. Extremely disturbing and something that makes me feel physically ill.

    I think the thing that helps Salo work and A Serbian Film doesn't work is that the guy who made it has made film adaptions before. Like, before Salo, he made a trilogy called The Trilogy Of Life, where he adapted three famous stories of the past (The Decameron, The Canterbury Tales, and A Thousand And One Nights (Arabian Nights)) to reflect the positivity and beautifulness of life. Salo was part of The Trilogy Of Death, which would show the dirtiness and negativity of life. Salo and Sodom would've been two different projects at one point, but were later combined into one. The second one (or just the next movie he wanted to make) would have been a biopic about Gilles de Rais, but was dropped when he died.
    Also while I was trying to look up the names for The Trilogy Of Life I had to unfortunately learn that he uh, he likes them young. Like, the "when he was 41 he met what he called "the great love of his life" when he was 15" kind of young. Really gross stuff.
    And to keep my note from the last time I saw this iceberg: Check out the Tetsuo The Iron Man soundtrack. It's some real good industrial metal.

      Yeah I'm consistently surprised to find that nearly nobody knows that Ed was dating a teenager, with Lorraine being apparently cool with it (technically this is alleged but using common sense, there's nothing else that could explain the situation). Even though I was never any kind of fan of them, that fact burrowed into my brain the first time I heard it and now I think about it anytime I see the stuff that spawned from their work

      I enjoyed how oddly wholesome and charming the first two Conjuring films were, but learning more about the Warrens ended up kind of ruining them for me. I’d love to see a horror film about them that shows how skeezy they actually were.

      @@nursemain3174 grayson's projects has a really good video on it! I'll see if youtube will let me link it in a reply. But basically Ed had a teenage girl living in the house who later alleged that he had been abusing her since she was 15. A neighbor got worried and police were called about it, she ended up getting pregnant and had an abortion, and they apparently were switching up their story between telling folks the girl was a niece or a charity case- it all looks pretty bad.

    i don't totally know how to phrase this cohesively but i used to do this thing where i purposefully looked for the most personally upsetting porn i could find and would just go into these obsessive binges where like, yknow I'd literally be dissociating and shaking pretty much the entire time bc I think my justification was that I was using it as some kind of cope? i dont really remember 90% of that experience bc i was literally so out of it throughout and my only thoughts were mostly just being constantly plagued by the media i was consuming, but basically I have some sort of deeply repressed childhood sex trauma thing happening and for some reason i thought watching porn that I knew would personally upset me in particular was a great way to deal with that. in hindsight i think it was more of a self harm addiction than a genuine coping mechanism, since it literally just further traumatized me and didn't help anything but all that to say I really appreciate you talking about how seeing some of the really bad shit can be genuinely traumatizing bc like, I'd never rlly heard anyone bring it up before and i think last yearish there was just like a solid month where literally every single night I would have nightmares sort of mashing together elements of all the shitty porn i saw so uh yeah thanks for talking abt your trauma, it's like, validating of my own trauma

      We need to realize more that someone can be traumatized by things that don't happen directly to them. I saw a video on Twitter by accident of a particularly upsetting police shooting over 5 years ago and it still messes me up. I've heard stories of CSA that I can't stop thinking about for weeks.
      I see why you would think of watching things as a coping mechanism though. I did something similar after I was SAd, like if I just push through this fucked up stuff that I would "get used to it" and wouldn't be affected by my trauma anymore. It is/can absolutely be a form of self harm and its good that you were able to realize that!

    One minor thing I learned regarding the KT Trilogy entry (as an additional note) is that there are actually two things it could be: The collected works of Kiyotaka Tsurisaki of Orozco the Embalmer infamy, including The Wasteland (which isn't on the iceberg for whatever reason), and a series of *extremely* intense BDSM films with a somewhat artsy bent about which very little is available on the Internet. Given how low the entry is, I think it's referring to the latter, but the former is still one hell of a thing.

    • @luxuscarnage4828
      @luxuscarnage4828 2 года назад +5

      Yeah. It's weird bc I see people asking for the trilogy due to their penchant for bloodletting. I assumed that was part of the hard-core BDSM art house films.

    Also, on the note of Lucifer Valentine, I also had a similar sentiment towards him at first due to the extreme niche he was pulling off, a friend of mine even got their hands on a physical copy of slaughtered vomit dolls and I found myself a little envious haha. But he is known to be really controlling and potentially really abusive.
    Here is a good video on the experiences some of the girls in the trilogy! :
