Idk if I should say this but people wouldn't trade cards nowadays coz each card has its own price and for example, if u want a really rare card and u request to trade with someone, u normally need to add in money which isn't considered really fair if you dk card prices at all and one for one was the default fair thing for trading. I remember during my pri school days, Duel Masters and Yugi-oh were still trending in TCG. I would often trade cards with other kids to fill up my collection and during that time, no money was involved, like it's either a 2 for 1 if that one card is hard to find or a 1 for 1 if both parties agree after negotiation. Common and Rares were also sometimes traded between friends but from what I see in TCG nowadays, people are greedy and tend to want to play more decks (I play Vanguard btw) , hence not many are willing to trade. If not, another reason would be high rarity cards like signed or hot stamped cards which make the cards too expensive. If kids, and I mean kids like arnd ages 7 to 10 want to get like a card which is only like one in a carton, then hardcore players which are almost half of the TCG community who have cash or willing to burn their wallets would just buy those cards and obviously if a kid asks you to trade, I don't think anyone of us would trade it because of its tremendously high value. Plus there's Bigweb, and most TCG players refer to that website to sell their cards, that's why during the Legion era for Cardfight Vanguard, many quit coz not only the mc's deck needed to be changed after every season, old cards and clans were mostly obsolete and not needed or played. (and it's a bit too late to change it right now during V era since right now most people think that TCG is only for kids, most are either on computer games or sports.) Because of that, right now trading only happens when both parties either have meta cards or expensive ones. Common and rares are mostly seen in rubbish bins too so yeah...... btw I live in Singapore so that's what I roughly see in card shops nowadays.
