Love the color! Spraying would be great but with time spent taping up barriers I think it is fine the way it is. Rock On, Hodgepodgers!!!

I purchased my 3 mtr Festool track about three years ago for kitchen and bathroom work, and it's got to be the Best Buy ever!
not cheap but well worth it 👍🏻

    Looks fantastic that.
Although personally, I prefer to prime & undercoat, sand, and prime & undercoat all of my MDF before fitting.
I just find that you get a much, much better finish and there is a lot less faffing around too.

Morrells mdf edge sealer, first coat brushed on, ( you can spray it ) let it dry, denib with 320, second coat, denib and good to go and you don’t have to be careful with it what ever goes on the face sands off real easy. Been using it well over 20 years in the joinery shop on mdf

👏👏I think it looks great but honestly my first thought when you said you're not going to spray it was "Ooo I bet they regret that" and as I got to the end of the video those are the exact words you spoke 😄 that extra prep will always be worth it in the end and I'm shocked tim didn't undertake the task due to that detail eye of his 😉.

@@TheRestorationCouple Cheers for listening 😊, Jo's "painting" really shouldn't be missed 😂🤣😂. Any chance it can be squeezed in before the "Paint drying too quickly" episode (no.58 I think) rather than tagged on to the end; unfortunately RUclips doesn't seem to sort the playlist videos by date published (which you'd think they would)? Just thinking of other latecomers, like myself, who are late to your channel.

Looks great! Panelling can really transform a room. Painting with dark colours is quite unforgiving and I agree with you, Tim, a brush finish looks better than an orange peel roller. I did all my rooms with a roller but I'm in the process of painting the hall/stairs/landing panelling with a brush and it's a much flatter more uniform finish - I'm having to work quickly though as the paint goes off very quickly and can leave different sheen levels when going over partially dried areas.

I did dark panelling in my downstairs toilet, my Wagner airless died just after the primer so used my compressor and a hvlp gun - came out great but I do have some movement in the corners which show the white undercoat. I later boxed in some pipes that needed painting but wasn't going to use the spray gun, floetrol worked great, not perfect but much better than paint alone - would recommend (albeit on a big area could get expensive as you use quite a bit)

The reason for the larger stile at the bottom of a door is to look the same from standing height. The bottom hinge is placed higher for the same reason.

Tim and anyone else in the comments, how would you fix to masonary walls that are also plastered. Full height panelling to go in on old walls that have slightly undulations so I don’t think grip fill etc on its own will be adequate? Will the nailers go through plaster?
Keep up the great work Tim, cabins looking great!

I panelled my hall at home, one side was block wall, other side was plasterboard, I used , drill the wall with 6mm sds bit, use 6mm fischer duopower wall plugs, pre drill mdf with 3mm bit, then use lost tite screws to fix to the wall. 32mm lost tite screws, holes are no bigger than a nail head, then fill and sand.

Great job, we are looking at doing the same but only half way up the wall. On your last panelling video you used MDF backing board and was thinking this was a good idea for our panelling due to the walls not being perfect, my question would be is it better to to place MDF on the wall first then panel onto that? Would that give me a better finish? Thanks

  • @Masonga79

Very nice finish. I’m intrigued as to why you have left a small section to the left of the door?
I’m very interested in doing this but am not sure how to tackle round windows in the middle of a wall. Any ideas?

@@TheRestorationCouple Thanks for the quick reply!
So a vertical either side of the window and horizontal top and bottom but then would you try and match the horizontals with the rest of the panelling and the width of the window would determine the gap between the remaining verticals?

Hi Tim, love your videos. Your journey is inspiring.
I have a question for you.
We are looking to do a panel/feature wall in our dining room. We currently have an unplastered wall.
Would you recommend putting MDF sheets on the wall for a smooth finish, then doing the panelling?
    Hope the question makes sense.
Thanks and keep up the great work.

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  2 года назад +1

Depends how good the plastering would be. I often counter batten the wall and then use a sheet over that but that’s often for lower panelling with a trim on top. It gives the opportunity to run cables too.

Hi Tim. Looks great as always! Can you advise what paint brand, finish and colour you used for the top coat? I've opted for Farrow and Ball modern eggshell for panelling in the past but yours seems to have a pretty similar finish and is no doubt much cheaper! Thanks 🙂

I think it would have worked better if the horizontal line was the same distance as the vertical line is from the ligth switch. I am not meaning to be critical but that is where the eye is drawn to, I guess it is something for people to consider when panelling.
