Thank you for an interesting perspective on pretty privilege! As for my own experience, both in school and university, pretty privilege has always been a thing. I was treated poorly by my classmates when I didn’t match their beauty standards. However, as I started to pay attention to my looks, the way they treated me totally changed. I believe that we as humans should look beyond the ‚cover‘
I feel like pretty privilege can get your foot in the door but talent and hard work is gonna create longevity. Because “pretty” is actually fairly common so it fizzles out fast, in my opinion? But true talent and uniquity is priceless.
people like tyla arent exactly the problem though, she can not only perform dance and sing, but also pretty, the issues are the untalented mediocre pretty people like ice spice or even the worst types, daddys money industry plant untalented and unattractive people like the kid laroi
Pretty privilege is very much real regardless of gender esp bc the human eye just loves looking at a satisfying spectacle. When it comes down to an ice spice, or like tyla, latto, whatsver more things start to come into play like featurism, colorism, and so on and so forth that ppl dc to talk abt and love to disregard (esp in regards and proximity to the black community, diaspora, and culture). Funny enough tho w/ all of this "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" aka subjectivity.. however, clearly everyone you see mainstream will always be conventionally, coveniently attractive enough. They have enough ppl thinking theyre ok looking oto or besides the talent or substance they may have. Idt its really only geared towards women, however, music wise kinda. bc yes, female rap has been more vain and unseriously taken it usually is. But also bc, now more than ever theres so much what?? "Oversaturated mediocrity" that ppl are being urged to put aside their preferences and preferred comfy views in general and get down to it. If "you" (in general) want to say its not always pretty privilege thats a point, sure, but having that pretty factor will always play a point. And again, depending on the role/job itll play one of the more "vital" parts (bc human nature, human eye loving a good aesthetically pleasing thing).
I agree that we as humans have a bias and so it seeps into everything we watch and even listen to and so even though it’s not fair, we, that is, the general public uphold it and enforce it but then complain and are confused why some people may benefit from it
My opinion this became relevant specifically in the music industry with the advent of the music video that's why I always say these same artistes from back in the day in the sixties and seventies that everybody highly revered now wouldn't get the time of day now in today's looks obsessed society before the music video you couldn't see what a artiste looked like so it didn't matter it allowed you to enjoy the music and that was the vocal point with the music video we saw what people looked like then looks and "image" took priority over actual talent and that's why the bar in music now is so low. I think in Hollywood this has always been the norm even the old Hollywood stars we all know and love were kinda handpicked by executives because they had the right look despite being plenty of other people who might act sing or dance better than them. I mean to really "blow up" it's not so much to do with actual talent as it is to do with having the right look right image having charisma having that "it" factor it sucks for people in the industry who are actually talented and can dance and sing circles around the so called most popular stars of today but facts remain if they don't have that right "look" or image then their careers won't see the light of day.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. It’s really hard to come to terms with the fact that talent is overlooked once someone doesn’t fit into a certain beauty mold, it’s so sad
@@Itsbabygirlt it’s called just becoming a model. If you have the face, and no other talent to go with the face. You just become a model. Because that’s your talent.

Pretty privilege has subsections, Tinashe, Tyla, Ice Spice, Doja and the list goes on benefit from racial ambiguity, it makes them easy to market but difficult to get cultural sign off. Also TiTok and instagram likes doesn’t equal sales… This a good conversation just missing nuance.

What about those closest to you who treated you well in the first place? Did they also change how they treated you or it was the same ?
Thank you for sharing your experience and for enjoying the video 💓

Because of nepotism and personal connections, I feel like talent and Hardwork doesn’t even create longevity anymore. It’s just an added bonus

Omg wow ! Great video ! and I agree. People will support someone then complain about them getting successful later on
Yes, human nature is so fickle
Thank you and thanks for watching!

@@Itsbabygirlt I agree and I feel for those people who are genuinely talented but don't have the right look
Pretty privilege is a talent in itself.
Interesting 🤔 but if you don’t have the skills or opportunity to wield it then it goes to waste
