- "Kenobi: Trials Of The Master" is a feature-length fan retelling of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. It uses the footage from the Series with other films in the franchise, and utilizes VFX, editing and new footage to create a completely new take on the story. It is intended to entertain and inspire the fan base, as well as to educate the upcoming artists on the possibilities of modern filmmaking.
This is not intended to interfere, or belittle, or replace the original series in any way. That's not even possible, and that was never my intention. And if it was even possible, I would never want it. This is my personal take on the story, and my ultimate love letter to the Star Wars universe.
This whole educational project wouldn't be possible without the artists and the entire creative team that made the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, so go and watch it on Disney+.
-Since many of you expressed the wish to see the comparison between the new shots and the original series, I did a quick edit for you.
For the sake of seeing the difference better, I left the original footage as-is, without retiming, flipping or regrading.
Even though I am using majority of the shots in the series, the context of them is completely changed, so much so they can also be considered "New shots", but the dramatic impact of it you'll see when the film comes out.
As the time goes on, you'll see more videos like this, including guided breakdowns for the more complicated shots.

@@TaunTaunTundra4477 The Pau'ans debuted il live action in 2005, the Grand Inquisitor appeared (with all his facial markings) in 2014. "It" premiered in 2017. GI has the high ground here when it comes to appearance 😂

I love that Tatooine actually has nice looking sand and blue skies again. I've hated how Disney's always shown it as a muted planet in the shows.

It's literally a sand planet. In the opening shots of ANH the skies are basically grey due to it being cloudy (some blue gets through) and the sand is oversaturated, but still, you know...sand. However, I also like BvS, so I'll give you a pass lol.
@@GestaltO While that's true, I'm more referring to the colour grading itself. ANH was done before a lot of those processes became standard. The prequels show what I'm more talking about. I just feel Disney's Tatooine is just a bunch of grey

When I think of Disney's version of Tatooine, I imagine it being oppressively hot/stifling, and the sand is incessantly suffocating all creatures that breathe air.
It looks absolutely miserable (BUT, I imagine those are the visceral "feels" that Disney were going for?)
Undoubtedly, the Tatooine of Disney lore doesn't resemble the tranquil blue skies or clay-like serene sand dunes that PixelJokers does.

What passion and actual care to the lore, characters, etc looks like.
The colors look so much better here. Everything is clear and vibrant. I don't understand why so many films and shows now seem afraid to add some color. Even the superhero films have muted or dulled colors.
I think it's a lazy attempt by them to show that their stories are "dark" and "edgy". Basically, "it's not a phase mom!" (narrator: it was, _in fact,_ a phase)
It's because with the LED wall, the additional colors will project into the environment and they'll have a shot that isn't ideal.
For Marvel it’s due to a reduced cgi processing time (therefore saving money) so I would assume it’s the same for other studios?
Just noticed Qui Gon's lightsaber crystal buried with only Anakin's lightsaber. Amazing. You are hitting all the nails on the head.

Does this mean in this fan edit that Obi-Wan only buried Anakin's lightsaber in the desert? I hope it shows how Obi-Wan is able to find the spot again. I always assumed it was through the force, as I can't imagine there being any landmarks to identify the site.
Maybe I don't remember the lore correctly, because I don't understand, why you removed the second lightsaber from the box. What was the reason?

just watched it and it felt soo much more star wars, the story got more solid when cutting out cringe stuff and unneccesary stuff.. but these things edited would make it crazy awesome...

A fan who is a VFX Artist and also already worked with Disney on Star Wars related projects.
But works like this makes you want Disney to actually make extended special editions of their show that might fix the most glaring issues but of course that means investing a lot of money if you want a lot of that Quality for an entire show instead of just a teaser.
I've watched this like 10x. Noticed you used an ep of boba fett, that's brilliant. Yoda looks amazing. Qui gons crystal, the added ship blasting the storm troopers, the inquisitors look evil af, and how how changed that scene with the thrown double light saber. Damn dude this is brilliant.

Man, you have really leveled up everything here. It’s quite spectacular, everything is more vivid and memorable, not only did you make the locations more interesting you made what was already there look better. Absolutely fantastic.
The only improvement I could see is that shot of Obi-Wan in the cantina near the end, it looks like the footage of Ewan doesn’t quite line up with the hood. It just seems a little out of place or like an unfinished photoshop if that makes sense. Took me out very slightly but everything else is unbelievably good for a one-man VFX project. Cannot wait to watch it later this year.
It will be difficult to bring a "dramatic impact" out of 'Kenobi', but the amount of work gives me hope. We will watch your career with great interest.

I mean if it didn't make him look like Pennywise which is why in the Obi-Wan show they made the red on his face barely visible I'm sure
It will be a movie… so im sooo excited to finally get a movie again. Even tho it’s made from a show and made into a fanbase film. Still feels amazing!

Its not even an exaggeration of how much better everything looks. You just embarrassed a studio full of actual people that work on star wars projects with millions of dollars at their disposal with your much humbler smaller at home set up lol.
I agree the production could have been better, but honestly the writing for the Kenobi Series is very good...(mostly). It continues 2017 Vader's character arc perfectly and it continues the Darth Maul/Obi Wan rivalry by having his story mirror Maul's in Clone Wars and acts as a bridge to how he makes the right decision to move on from the past while Maul continues to cling onto it, showing us how the man came to be in Twin Suns.

Woooah, the comp work is just top tier! Amazing lighting is really really nice, a lot of the subtle changes somehow bring such a great deal out of what's there.
You should travel back in time, and speak with disney. You know what is SW, and they should let you direct the whole series. Man, this is awesome. Debora Chow had no idea what SW was.

To see a comparison is interesting especially because I’ve never seen the show. Obviously a lot of cool color changes and added cgi bits.
However, there could definitely be an argument for more subtlety in places. For example all the flashback stuff - especially the transition of Vader and Anakin. Kinda feels like it could be a bit forced but I have to see it within the film. I just hope that with all the effort (and truly great work) you’ve put in, we’re gonna see some call-backs or references just for “fan servicey’s” sake that could take some of us out of the film. I also really don’t want to totally knock you - I’m still uber excited for this edit as it does look great!

100%. I'm also not a fan of the new environment for Kenobi vs Vader, I really liked the original planet. Guess we'll see when the project releases.
as someone who watched the show, it needs stuff like that bad. There are cool flashbacks for sure but they almost all are the same scene just chopped up. It had some cool moments though.

@@talizorahnarrayya5916 I'm not a fan of the environment for the final Vader/Kenobi fight but really just because it was to dark. It gave me GoT flashbacks. 😱 This new version does look good though.
The difference between these two versions is simple passion. Disney creators lack passion they don't love star wars like George or the fans do. And that added passion of a fan makes all the difference in the world.
I say the director was on point. She match the visual sense of star wars. Everything else was a let down unfortunately.
I am not sure why the original disney versions have to make everything look apocalyptic nowadays, as if every planet has no sun. xD Fans often will make things better. Because they are fans and they don't want to see their stories suck, so naturally, they put more effort into their stuff.

I had to pause to really appreciate everything. This is beautifully done and is a great fan work. I especially love the quick reference to the Grand Inquisitors past as a Jedi Knight 1:15.

That lightsaber ignition and throwing dual blade lightsaber gives the inquisitors way more gravitas and and sense of threat! That was very missing in the series. Also the face change of the fifth brother and grand inquisitor (also more in line with his kind) give its so much more sense of danger.
Disney needs to leave Star Wars to individuals that actually know what star wars is all about. Nonetheless this was great, bravo!
I loved it the moment I saw the visuals of Fortress inquisitorious and Mustafar in the sky were consistent with Fallen Order. Really makes everything seem connected keep it up.

I remember watching two alternate Kenobi "movies" last year, and they we're both ten times better than the original show. One focused mainly on cutting out unnecessary stuff, and the other one was shorter, used some VFX, older music, deepfakes and shit - it was pretty cool. But this, this is something else. I can't wait!

I love this edit so much and I can't wait for it. I just have one little question... considering Fallen Order and the events that transpire in that game. Do you plan on adding Star Destroyers to guard the Inquisitors planet or would that cause too many changes to implement? I think if it's possible it would be a far cry from the stupid idea that is Inquisitorius being completely unguarded compared to Fallen Order and the scene where that one guy says "It would be stupid to attack it so it doesn't have any defense. making absolutely no sense since, again, Fallen Order happened. Bit jumbled but hopefully you get what I am trying to say. Keep up the amazing work!

I can't say that fans always do it better, but there's usually a level of passion that can't be met with commercial media. There will probably be changes that are unnecessary or even unliked, however, I have no doubts that this will be a fantastic final product
