It also feels very moisturizing.. thanks to the honey I assume. :) Now... I just need to find a way to get my hands on your Beet the sun sunscreen to complete my routine. 🤗

I really appreciate how everything you say is backed up by research and how you didn't overextrapolate/admitted when you weren't completely sure (e.g. BP and vit C). A lot of the skincare combo advice videos I've seen have been fearmongering bs.

I made this mistake big time almost exactly last year, and with a combination of stress, my skin became super agitated, inflamed, and it also broke out like crazy with acne.
I needed to go to the dermatologist to get it fixed and I needed to go back to the basics.
A year later, my skin has cleared up a lot, but there is still a lot of scarring from the acne.
So listen to Liah and take it slow with one active ingredient at a time for your skin to get used to it, or you will literally pay the price.

Your videos have actually been a huge resource to me as an aesthetician. Of course I learned a lot in school and continue to learn since I've started working in the industry, but it's so refreshing to get a different take on skincare, where in many instances in America I tend to see people being extremely rough with what they're using on their skin. I even shadowed at a spa where they do a peel with EVERY SINGLE facial and that's just not what everyone needs. Your videos taught me the fine line between being progressive with skincare and being abrasive with skincare so I'm very thankful for that 🙌🏼

Using benzoyl peroxide is fine when used as “contact therapy” where you leave the product on for a short duration, 10-20 minutes. This method remains effective for treating acne and is much gentler on your skin. For those worried about using BPO, please do this instead avoiding the product all together as BPO is truly effective against acne.

Of course doctors like products that bring fast results, like antibiotics. The problem is, our skin has a natural bacterial flora on it, which we need to be healthy. There is a good chance that a healthy skin flora prevents overgrowth by acne-causing bacteria - but antibiotics hurt them too! So unless you really really need antibiotics, better stay away from them. My experience was that acne came back as soon as my antibiotics treatment was over - and the whole process just left an un-colonized skin ready to take and increased the chance of a resistant strains appearing.
Therefore, I am so-so-so happy I found your channel!! I learn a lot, and ever since I started to moisturize more often, my skin looks soooo much better!

However i have a question tho, im currently using face wash that claims to have aha+bha in their products but turns out theyre at the last 2 of their ingredients list. I use the face wash everyday, and is it too much of actives? I always thought since theyre very low they wouldnt have any effect at all lol. If anyone can answer this id highly appreciate it.

I am a proud user of Benzoyl Peroxide. I can make a novel about it, literally, because of how big of a help it is for my acne. Now, I only use it at night, just a pea-sized just to prevent P.Acne bacteria from growing. Before I experienced flaky skin while using it but now that my skin barrier is at its best, no more flaking + I do 7 layers of hydrating toner before it so it does not dry my skin at all.

Niacinamide + Retinoid/retinol. I was told by my doctor that niacinamide helps with reducing the side effects of retinoid/retinol (skin dryness and prevents sensitized skin). So basically before you start using retinoid/retinol, you would need to use niacinamide everyday for a few weeks. After a few weeks you could then combine them in the same regime- niacinamide is applied first followed by retinoid (water base is applied first before any oil base products).

My dermatologist said it was fine that i use my Tret 0.1 with my hydroquinone and then i moisturize. The results are fantastic

Love your channel and tips, Liah. I get really excited when you upload a video. I've struggled with acne and the only ingredient that has been keeping my acne at bay for over 9 years is BPO, but I have a very sensitive skin and rosacea and, as you said and I agree, BPO is very sensitizing, well...I have oily, acne-prone and sensitive skin. I've already tried other active ingredients, like AHA, BHA, Niacinamide, but none of them work as well as BPO for my acne skin, then I have to use moisturizer to prevent my skin from getting more sensitive. Though sometimes moisturizers don't really work out as well. It's really annoying. I really don't know how to sort this out.

This is very helpful. As someone who has been to a lot of dermatologists, I feel that the topic of protecting skin barrier isn’t emphasized enough. I’ve previously been prescribed with salicylic acid containing product along with azelaic acid, clindamycin, benzoyl peroxide and adapalene. 😅 Can’t say it didn’t work because it did but the clarity does not last. Hello Dr. Yoo! Are there any pore tunnel clearing alternatives to salicylic acid? My skin doesn’t react well to it, if I leave it overnight (like CosRx BHA toner), my skin gets kind of warm and tight, and if I apply and rinse it off after 10-20 minutes, it doesn’t work very effectively for my pores and can cause pimples. I developed a bad sensitivity to benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid by massively overusing in high school.

Try azelaic acid (20% ideally). Keep with the BHA maybe try to compensate the dryness with moisturizer or use a lotion form ? (PC's 2% BHA lotion) You can still use it as a mask and then use azelaic acid.

Real talk, she’s super right about the excitement one can get from getting each ingredient and wanting to use them all at once to reap the benefits. Recently, my skin freaked out and had one of its worst break outs since my high school years because of how rapidly I sensitized my skin using AHAs and BHAs every other day.... One day my skin felt like it was getting poked by dull needles, especially around my cheek and chin area and for an entire week my skin just started experiencing white heads in areas that were calming down. Sadly, I had to learn the hard way. But recently I’ve just been cleansing with a hydrating cleanser, and mixing the ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% with my ceraVe moisturizer and my skin has been thanking me for it. Only difference in my day and night routine is using sunscreen, and I’ve been keeping it that way with out using any sensitizing ingredients so that my skin barrier can replenish itself until I know it’s time to slowly add those strong chemicals to my skin again. PLEASEEEEE BE CAREFUL AND MINDFUL PEEPS!!!! YOUR SKIN IS ALREADY FIGHTING FOR YOU SO BE NICE TO IT!!! Thanks to Liah & Hyram, I’ve been able to learn so much!!! Keep up the works pretties ❤️

A lot of people with sensitive skin get irritated by vit c, do you know what percentage you had? Some people just need a lower concentration but some people can’t use it all. When you used your vit a product it’s actually completely normal to experience a purging period you just have to continue using it and it will eventually go away on its own

    • @azuresea00
      @azuresea00 6 лет назад

yeah, might have been too much vit c, especially for young people. it was 20% pure vit c (the one from Wishtrend) and i was early 20, so my skin might have overreacted to too much ^^
regarding vit a: no, i don't think it was normal for me, my skin peeled off more and more, it got bigger and some parts even started bleeding bc it was so dried out (any creams from the doctor couldn't help me). the rashes also didn't go away, it got worse. my dermatologist said my skin might be too sensitive for vit a :/

    • @lolwoof49
      @lolwoof49 6 лет назад

Aw damn that sucks with vit a. I usually recommend Magnesium Ascorbyl phosphate 10% for those who with sensitive skin or are first time users to vit c nothing above a vit c derivative of 20% though so 20% pure asorbic acid would for most people be too much. Or even ascorbyl glucoside 12^ for a more serum like texture

Thank youu for this video. I am aware of Salicylic Acid & Benzoyl Peroxide being best to be seperate, and having always moisturized beforehand. So I typically have been cleansing twice a day lately, to control my acne into clearer, healthier skin.
Morning regimen has been, cleansing the face with lukewarm water & 2% Salicylic Acid cleanser, cool water in replacement of toner for now & to help cool the skin down. Patting dry with a clean towel.
Then moisturizing (lips & undereyes included). And SPF 30 sunscreen as needed here.
Nightly, *lukewarm water, then a cool water rinse when done with the milk cleanser* a pH balanced, almond milk cleanser. Moisturizer.
Using a Q-tip cotton swab to apply 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide, and I keep it as a leave-in product.
So far, this has been very effective.
Today for a first, I did mix the two, but knowingly will continue how I have been doing above. So I appreciate your helpful video, and researcher based content!
*Products I use, that's effectively been helping my hormonal based acne, is Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash or Neutrogena's Rapid, Clear, Stubborn Acne Foaming Scrub (both are 2% Salicylic Acid).
Moisturizer is Eucerin's Original Healing Lotion (safe & is an antifungal product; an hydrating, rich emollient lotion).
Andalou Naturals' Apricot Milk Cleanser & Benzoyl Peroxide for the night regimen, Neutrogena's Rapid, Clear, Stubborn Acne Leave-In Mask (2.5%) or I was intending to get their maximum strength 10% 》 Neutrogena's Rapid, Clear, Stubborn Acne Gel, but I started off with a low dose. Always moisturize first, and then use the Benzoyl Peroxide product, and always use spf 30 sunscreen!
My sunscreen is also, Christina Moss Naturals SPF 30 Suncreen from Amazon, the above products are all available at CVS within the states*

I use BPO for years now to calm down my acne, and I have combined it with Vitamin C and BHA/AHA so far. For BPO, everytime I can't use it regulary I get breakouts, so dropping it was not an option for me.
When I added Vitamin C I couldn't notice any results even after a few weeks, so I dropped it after a while. Maybe I could have tried it for longer but it was too bothersome tbh. It felt a little bit warm the first times I used it, but my skin didn't seemed to bother too much.
For AHA/BHA I always used products with low concentration so I haven't had any problems. I tend to have a not very sensitive skin as well. I felt it helped a lot. Since BPO dries out the skin like crazy, I always had a looot of dead skincells, so the skin was very flaky, but with BHA/AHA (and also leveling up hydration, which was probably even more important) I got it under control and my skin looks and feels much cleaner now. Sometimes I even get pimple and whiteheads-free (as long as I don't stuff myself with sugary foods haha).

    What about bha and niacinamide?

Niacinamide is a weak base (see its suffix!) and bha is an acid, so it’s optimal to keep them separated for at least some duration of time! Bha also works best at a lower pH; with acids, apply, wait for a few minutes, then apply the rest of your routine

i can only speak for myself of course but i get great results using them together, and i always use the niacinamide right after the bha with zero issue, the exfoliation just enhances the results for me

@@corrobboree BHA still works at neutral pH and niacinamide is extremely stable. There are creams combining niacinamide + BHA, but neutral BHA.

True! I think it does depend on your skin however, given that non-enzymatic hydrolysis is more likely to occur at low pHs --> niacin production (which can generate pretty extensive flushing and prickling even at very low levels). If your skin isn't sensitive, then this may be a nonissue, but this could be something to bear in mind for sensitive skin sufferers

Usually people say not to mix them up or to wait at least 15-30 minutes after using each.
I personally didn't know that my essence contained niacinamide, and so i used bha right after it. Big mistake. I messed up my skin, it was red and dry and hurting and it stung whenever I applied stuff, couldn't even handle honey. Luckily I eventually understood what was going on. I'll personally never use both of them together in one routine (even when I wait, my skin gets irritated), so I just use one at a time.

My trick is, for beginner if you not sure but want to start with active ingredient (serum) start with Vitamin B (Nicotinamide) the safest ingredient to use. for Vic C I think best for morning because it work well with Sunscreen. However, I find Vic C Serum mix with hyaluronic acid is best to not make skin dry off from low PH. at night Retinol and Vit B + hyaluronic acid best. and if you want to use BHA or AHA you can use alternate at night with like one day Retinol and Vic B + hyaluronic and another day BHA or AHA then Vit B + hyaluronic. This work well for me.
