I remember buying this game back in 2010 because I saw AVGN's review and literally thought "it can't really be that bad, this looks fun". Glad I did that
Konami were dead wrong about this game really. Sure the controls and movement were clunky but it was considerably fun and the presentation was extremely well done. In terms of music, stories, level design, it was excellent
The N64, more specifically Castlevania 64 and Goldeneye 64 or even Jet Force Gemini were very good bonding times for me and my dad for he still played video games from time to time. I remember we were stuck at the maze level with Frankenstein and his dogs. Kept trying to find a way to beat him permanently, kill his dogs, or something to progress on. For years that was stuck in my head, an while I had my game collection I didn't have the console. A few years back I finally got ahold of one and played this game immediately, progressed to the same part and finally figured out what we needed to do. (We felt really stupid tbh, but was a good feeling nonetheless)
Super happy to see this game ran. Love Castlevania 64, I can never tell if it's nostalgia or if it's actually good. Either way, I still have fun going through it from time to time, even now. Edit: Best music in the series as well.
Yea, CV64 is really, really underrated. Most of the time I see it heavily criticized it is from the perspective of someone who is not that big of a Castlevania fan. As someone who grew up with the NES trilogy I liked the N64 ‘vanias a lot. They’re not CV3, CV4, or Symphony or anything but they’re solid.
It’s the climbing sections in the beginning, they don’t fit the camera but once you get past those it’s incredible and you can save your game with a memory pack but I think a lot of players didn’t have that.
till LAMENT OF INNOCENCE, CURSE OF DARKNESS and LORDS of SHADOW saga brought a HUGE change on that Mechanic Not mentioning another underrated Castlevania names Harmony of Dissonance
I've seen so many people complain about this game but you make it look playable enough for me to enjoy and I'm a big Castlevania fan. I'm pretty good with shitty games and still enjoy them. I think I'll finally pick this one up bad designed be damned I'm in to it
If this game had been just a little more intuitive, it would have been on par with Ocarina of Time. Has so many memorable qualities, but it's such a confusing game
The problem was the climbing sections at the beginning like stage one in the second loop of three it turned a lot of people off but the game after that is incredible.
It was explained that Rosa isn't a normal vampire. Her soul was masked by the aura of the castle, and now that the castle has once more been banished, the curse afflicting her soul has faded. Much like Mina Harker in the novel.
Legacy of Darkness the better version fuck no, the only reason to get that game is if you want to play Cornell. Carrie and Reinhardt are far inferior to 64. I loved how they brought back branching paths from three, really elevates this one.
"We'll be using the alternate costume for Carrie if we play as her for particular reasons." Huh, I wonder what-- *looks up alternate Carrie* ...why does she look like a Touhou?
Not my favorite Castlevania, and certainly not the BEST Castlevania, but it really was a fair interpretation of the formula, especially after the success of Ocarina of Time.

This game makes me think of bloodborne in the best way possible

This one and 3 are my favorites been playing Castlevania since Simon’s Quest and 64 along with the third entry get the most play.
Excellent job with solo-commentary while playing. Explained everything and kept excited about the game. Great stuff.

I forgot about this one. I remember AVGN complaining about that red explosive. It looks very tricky to run it that fast

Making it look too easy. Never beat this game when I was younger, couldn’t get past nitro like most. Glad to finally see the ending… not gonna lie.
I'd buy the game and play it if my parents hadn't sold my n64 without telling me for 25$ 🙃
