Consort Chun is right, the emperor only cares to give titles when those he treats poorly are close to death. Then once death finds them he once again holds them in the highest regard. Even Ruyi reiterated this when she cut her hair.
in this series, he uses alot of titles and material things so others can't say he isn't loving or filial. dowager mentions it at one point. he gives her the best of whatever tributes come to the palace, he hunted a bear and had the fur sent to her. but he does all these things while ignoring her and not visiting her anymore. from the outside he looks like a filial son, so no one can complain.
Consort Chun was so gentle and unassuming. Everyone loved her. She always stayed loyal. So very sad. He changed from the prince he was. The power went to his head.
That's very true. Manchuria took over the Han people and started the Qing dynasty which happens to be the last dynasty of China. The hans were forced to submit to the Manchurian and even do their hair in those fashions, which humiliating for the Han people at the start because you can see before that they never shaved half their head lol. In fact today it seems there quite a few people in china don't really want consider the Qing dynasty as a part of the Chinese identity since it was a dynasty created by usupers. It's kind of hard to determine which dynasties are legit since it's not the first time China been taken over like that.
Though the history may be off One fact remains, no one in the Forbidden City, not even the emperor, was happy or safe. The workers, if they survived, were the fortunate ones. They could eventually leave.

Chun guifei had tried to get everyone behind her to become empress when the first empress died but of course the emperor intended for Ruyi to have that title so he was offended by Chun then, and chastised her and her son for their overambitious ways, but they were really sensitive sincere people who got brokenhearted and panicked by the emperors retaliation against them and being outcast from his grace. And they both died from the stress and subsequent illnesses they couldnt fight off. Chun guifei was the oldest wife i think. Yeah, that 皇貴妃 imperial noble consort title is a death sentence.… but then so is the empress’ 🤭
