- Full body animatronic Joey from Spielberg's War Horse. Used exclusively in the No Mans Land, barbed wire sequence. Operated from beneath via rods and linkages with a radio controlled servo driven face.
UGH, I want an animatronic horse in my house. Absolutely outstanding and beautiful work, unfortunately I cannot afford anything like that!

I’ve never seen the movie but I’ve read the book, and the scene where he’s caught in barbed wire is the one major part I remember. Seeing this incredible work and knowing that no real animals were used or harmed to bring such a dramatic and dangerous scene to life is mind-blowing.
I thought everything was real horse. Thats why i kept wondering how they could create some scenes which quite unusual...
I thought they used CGI for that scene.
@@feathersong5838 if it would be cgi it would be very fake looking. Puppetry and robotics are crazy.
i would never have guessed war horse wasn't real but so glad you boys took care of that. impressed because i loved the movie and you through a spanner into my reality
Thanks Brenden, it took 8 guys to bring it to life, 5 of them were stuck in a hole underneath it. Glad you liked the movie.

Enjoy Rottness island, sounds like alot of fun. I'm gonna try to head out to my local spot Sunday to fly a few packs weather and dog walkers permitting.
As a horse owner, even knowing its a robot still breaks my heart. He looks very similar to my boy, Dips and it tugs. My horse was tangled in hotwire once and it was the most horrific experience, so seeing Joey tangled up like that made me pull Dips even closer. Great job to those who made this, it's captivating.

Holy crap I had no idea they did this, when I saw the movie I thought it was the real horse what an outstanding job! And just for that one moment. Shows the level of commitment to making a great film as well as the budget.
Even though it’s an animatronic, me looking at Joey in those wires just makes me wanna help him myself. It looks super realistic!

Gorgeous! I love the mixture of animatronics and direct rod control. It's heartbreaking seeing him all tangled up, even if he's not real!
Anyone else think it would be creepy to be working on this and it like be moving idk it just gives me the chills

Fantasitc! Really cool to see the process of something so sophisticated being made. I had no idea that scene was an animatronic until I saw this and its makes me like the movie even more.

I am a long time horse lover and I didn't realise that scene was an anamatronic horse, I thought he was a very well trained horse with rubber barbed wire. Terrific work!
