I have wanted this video FOREVER! I never know how much to come in or how to draw the new cutting line up toward the hip. Thanks so much for the detailed video and explanation!
Hugs, Joy
Again, the best sewing tutorials on the web! Thank you, Good Stitch!
all the other tutorials have you taking your pants in on the outside only and I knew that this was incorrect. I'm so happy I came across your video and I have subscribed!
Great video! Info/instructions clear, succinct. I liked how you made your pants using both the out of the box blueprint and the adjusted/narrow leg. Thanks for great pattern system and excellent support.
Thank you - your comments and feedback is much appreciated. I'm glad to here you are enjoying the Sure-Fit Designs pattern system.
No we haven't. I know many knit patterns only have 3/8" seam allowances, but the industry standard for woven fabric is 5/8". - I'm glad to hear the videos are beneficial for you. Kindly Glenda
You are AWESOME! This has always intimidated me, but, today, I was able to do it. Thank you so much!
Very helpful tutorial. Thank you so much!
You are most welcome, I'm so glad the information was of benefit for you.
Thank you so much for explaination on narrowing pants leg. Great job!!
You are most welcome, I'm glad the information was of benefit for you.
This answered my questions about narrowing the legs of pants AND contained some wise advice about considering it. Thank you, Glenda!
Hi Joy, Glad you liked the video content. You can make the leg even skinnier if you want by really shaping the pattern to your leg. This means you'd use the Designing Stylus for sure in the upper inseam toward the crotch point - i.e. the truing would not remain as a straight line. And on the side seam you'd need to curve in from your full hip circumference dot and THEN head down in a straighter line. Kindly Glenda
Thank u so much for the above video. Love from India.
captainpuri1 - You are most welcome - thanks so much for your comment.
Thank you for this great video! You helped me so much!! Very good explanation.
It was almost telepathic how Ithis video showed up in my feed today. While it answered a lot of my uestions I still have one I need to narrow my pant leg only in the thigh area i.e. between the crotch and the knee. No matter how I draft the pants the upper thigh is at least three inches too loose. I hae a 42 inch hip but the thigh circumference is just 23. How do I address this?
I really like this tutorial. Very helpfull, good explanation. Greetings from Chile.
It looks like the top of the leg doesn't change in size. How would it then cup your bottom more? I'm thinking if you want to make fitted jeans that cup you more, how would that work? Thanks!
We have an instructional DVD for Jeans. It's available in a streaming version here: www.surefitacademy.com/courses/jeans-behind-the-scenes-streaming-video-lessons

Very Helpful! Thanks!!
That's an issue you will always face if you get the leg too narrow at the ankle. You would likely have to leave a side seam slit for about 3 - 4" up, to allow your foot to go through. Kindly, glenda
Where can i get sure fit designs from im in South Africa
Hello, In my case I want to make wider the legs of the pants? what is the procedure to follow? Do you narrow the pants legs just in the back part of the trouser? what about the front, stay the same? do you have any video on how to eliminate front darts of a trouser? Thanks so much
Whatever you do to the width of the pants leg, make sure to do it equally on both inseam and side seam - whether you want to widen or narrow the leg.
Kindly, Glenda
Thank you very much for the instructions. I need to slim the pants and adjust for flat backside. Which one do I do first?
Thank you.
Slightly off topic, but have you ever considered making a stylus with a narrower seam allowance? I think that would be very helpful. I enjoy your videos.
Wouldn’t leave much scope for widening at certain points when fitting.
@@dustycarter2729 A lot of indie patterns use this seam allowance and I think they are easier to sew, too. Just an idea.
Martha Hughes I would use less seam allowance once I had a pattern fit me.
Great video. Great point to sew one leg with the unaltered pattern and one leg with the altered pattern so you can see the difference. Question: How do you narrow the width of the leg but keep the ankle wide enough to fit your foot (without having to use a stretch material)? As I make the width of my pants narrower, my foot doesn't fit through the bottom hem.
Gracias por sus enseñanzas sigo sus videos pero trato de entender por la explicación pero el idioma es el inconveniente soy de Colombia
How to take in/reduce size a pair of pants if it fit baggy at waist, hips and upper legs, but it fit fine at lower leg hem line (knees and toes)? PS: My native language is spanish, sorry for mistaken words. Many thanks for any suggestions.
Hi Glenda, I forgot to ask you if I can taper Capri pants the same way as other pants?
Am trying this currently. Will probably do one leg pattern width and other leg narrow in muslin. I would like 16.5 “ around calf
Extremely well done, however do wish your video had the CC feature for those who are hard of hearing.
Thank you for your positive comment and feedback. I wish they had the CC feature too. Adding that to our 200+ videos is an inordinate amount of work.
what do i do, the bottom hem of my pants are too small for my feet to pass through. It's sometimes stuck. So annoying
The narrower the opening at the hem level, the more you have to plan for a slit or vent opening at the side seam so that you can pull the leg over your foot.
Thank you for the video, very well presented.
